  1. If when Darvish comes back everyone in the rotation is healthy, what will the Cubs decide to do? Montgomery has proven more effective than Chatwood this season, but do they decide Monty only has a certain amount of innings he can throw in 2018 and put him back in the pen to limit them so he can start again later when there is another injury? Or do they just make Chatwood the long reliever who comes in during blowouts and/or when the entire pen has been taxed/used?
  2. Kind of like Baendon (spelling) doesn’t like people always talking about Javy’s strikeouts, we always think this is an overreaction to a perceived overreaction. No matter how many times we all acknowledge we have the best team in the NL, we aren’t allowed to just discuss the boring ball over long stretches and whether it’s even more unusual than in the past. R Mack ain’t here. Nobody is going crazy. Just discussing an aspect of our team in a sport that is played every day for six months. I suppose we all could just say we are awesome and nobody post again till October, but damn, that’s no fun.
  3. My bad....got caught up with everyone else. Sorry about that. Also...hopefully congrats on the new son, either already or in the next few days. All good. Thanks not yet but Friday at the latest. Sadly a second place baby but it’s alright not many got born into 1st place but it still worked out in the end! Tied in the loss column baby. Which means it’s all good.
  4. I’m convinced it’s worse this year. Again, I can't remember who it was but I remember reading something a few weeks ago that it is worse, in fact it was approaching a historically high variance between their hot and cold streaks. I tend not to get too worried about how things look in June, and I'm really not all that worried that much overall, but that particular thing does concern me a bit. If you happen to come across it, post it. I’d be intrigued to see the data. It sure does seem crazy this year just following on a daily basis.
  5. We are really breaking this down. I’ll try again. The Cubs go though pretty decent stretches where they are being shutdown by (fill in the blank) average starting pitchers. The Cubs have too many good players and I expect no stretches like that because they are awesome. Then you don't really understand how baseball works, and you're going to generally not enjoy watching it. I’m convinced it’s worse this year.

  7. Also I wasn’t just talking about this one game but our stretches of crapness. Like Chase Anderson and his 15 ERA.
  8. And, again, this ain’t a playoff series where you are facing some of the best starters in the game. This is like against the guys who are left off the playoff roster. The guy with the 2.71 ERA, the guy with the 0.55 ERA, or the guy with the 1.22 ERA? Which of those guys today would be left off the playoff roster? Chacin blows, and his ERA is helped by being in our division.

  10. Damn it. This thread has been awful to read. So much different than the 11th inning a few nights ago.
  11. I think it would be much more understandable if our offense was like the Mets or something, where you know they suck and it's expected they will suck. It's just so interesting when you have a squad full of what are high level, dynamic offensive players and they just don't do anything for long stretches at a time and even during a five or six game span when they aren't facing anything but middle of the road type pitchers.
  12. I keep coming here to get that run of happy posts, and like...........it seems they bat and are out of an inning within a minute every time.
  13. thats dumb though? what does the run differential have to do with anything He might be saying that although our RD is really good, it seems like it's built on huge blowouts but in reality we have a weird amount of high crap games where we are just awful on offense and it skews the greatness of our RD. But that's probably not what he's saying and that's just what I'm thinking at the current moment.
  14. While valid, I've found it's so much nicer to ponder why the Cubs suck after a win than after a loss.
  15. At the end of April, his slash was .149/.259/.189 It's now .243/.343/.438. Here's the reminder you asked for, about how much better he has been.
  16. Hoping some on-base guys can get on in front of him and he can hit a multiple point dong.
  17. Not sure how many of you ever follow the game thread and only the game thread, but sometimes I do. And when happy posts come one after another, it’s one of the best baseball feelings I get. I have no idea what the score is, but I just feel like things are fun right now.
  18. It’s not racist. People make puns on anybody’s name. That's what I was thinking. It was a weird thought by this gentleman.
  19. A guy on Mooney's Twitter said the Yu puns are lazy and borderline racist. I can understand the lazy possibility. But how is it racist?
  20. KB and Schwarber aren't seeing Nova very well today.
  21. We scored nine runs in the 8th inning against the Braves. So a win still is possible.
  22. To be fair, had pinch-hitting for Kyle worked and we put up two or three runs, the bullpen guys we might have used could have made this game a lot different.
  23. Hopefully, he can pitch the rest of the game and we don't have to use anybody else.
  24. I get lead off hitter thing is only once a game, but having Javy lead off against anybody is weird. He has a .287 OBP against right-handers and .276 against left-handers.
  25. I really value that defense in big games, though, and especially when the offense isn't scoring much. The hope is that you put Javy at No. 8, get his great defense at second, and let all the more well-rounded hitters do the damage needed. Zobrist is plenty good defensively at 2B, vs RHP we don’t need two pitchers hitting the lineup. Javy can go get himself a comfortable seat on the bench for them. I trust your defensive rating on Zobrist. In that case, he's a much better option until pitchers accidentally start throwing Javy strikes again.
