I really value that defense in big games, though, and especially when the offense isn't scoring much. The hope is that you put Javy at No. 8, get his great defense at second, and let all the more well-rounded hitters do the damage needed.
I mean I could show you the texts if you want. That was a stupid decision when you decide to put a black hole at the top of your lineup. No need. I like a good bunting game.
I know we aren't supposed to bash Javy because he leads in almost all offensive categories, but Nova pitched him perfectly. Just never go in the zone and have him strike out.
Is there a better base runner in the game, other than maybe KB? a lot Sorry. I was trying to deflect from him swinging at a really outside pitch and popping it up instead of taking a walk.
Cubs fans also talk about Javy's great defense, great arm and magical base running a lot. Why so sensitive about the fact that he doesn't just strike out but does it in spectacular fashion a lot? No worries. Everybody loves him and his dong. His sub .300 OBP could be improved, though.
Not really. We are bashing on the pitchers who throw him strikes. Does he strike out a lot or something? I hadn't heard. Nobody ever talks about it. He does. Many times on balls that are closer to the batter on the on deck circle.
In 113 career starts entering this season, Chatwood walked five or more batters 10 times. In 12 starts of his Cubs career, he has done it eight times. It's tough to anticipate that when signing him.
Does anyone remember if they tinkered with his mechanics after signing? I realize his mechanics already sucked, but this is far worse than even bad Rockies Chatwood when it comes to the walks.
Just right now. Javy at the plate right now is not the Javy at the plate earlier. He's swinging at every single pitch they are throwing, which might not be any different I suppose, but they were throwing more hittable pitches earlier.
