  1. Selfishness is becoming the norm in this country. It's quite sad. One day when your car is sitting on the side of the road all broken down, someone will drive by without stopping and say, "should have bought a car that runs. Enjoy your walk, dude." Same attitude. Different day. Well-said BBB!
  2. I think I have an idea. They are preparing for the future. They turned one good pitcher who will be making a lot of money soon into two good pitchers who won't be making a lot of money as soon. IMO, KW is a very good GM and the Sox seem to have a long term plan based on financial wearwithall and baseball acumen. I really like the move, both strategically and tacticly. I wish the Cubs had some long term thinkers running things. Agreed
  3. I know Tim was joking, and I have the highest respect for his threads, too. Have you taken a look at Hawpe's OBP? Much, higher than Jones'. SLG and, I'm sure OPS, too. Maybe Marshall and Jones for Hawpe, but I would seriously take him in a trade. Not that Colorado would do that trade, but...
  4. In before the lock!
  5. I'm happy to know that you're doing better.
  6. That's great to hear! :D
  7. Are you on a quest to have crappy pitching? Marquis and Meche are not good. "Not good" is being far too kind. They're pretty horrid. I can see cases for Westbrook, Lilly, Padilla... but Meche, Marquis, and Batista should be nowhere near a pro ball club (except for the Astros fixed!
  8. Dunno, but I would do Murton for Westbrook straight up, especially if we ink Soriano and Drew as rumored. Only if Westbrook was locked up longterm. Even then, I'm not sure. It's probably fair, but I'm just really bias toward Murton. He's my fav. player. Besides, I don't think the Indians really want/need an outfielder. We really need to trade from our strength, which is bullpen pitching and even young arms. How about giving them cash so they can go out and get...Lugo? (I'd much rather have Lugo, mind you, but wouldn't Westbrook be a good fit for the Cubs?)
  9. I wouldn't want anyone from the Giants (except, of course, Jason Schmidt). But we all know we won't be able to trade for him.
  10. I think we all agree--or at least, most of us agree--that OBP is very important!
  11. It's also my dream to buy the Cubs, for what it's worth. How about a NSBB pool to buy the Cubs? I"m in. Me too!
  12. I'm not so sure they won't have the money. I just read that entire article and the usually cynical Rogers seems to think payroll will extend beyond $120M if need be! They're talking about having 6 starters (Sounds like they're trying to take a page out of the White Sox book). I know it's dangerous for my emotional well being but I'm drinking the Kool aid now. Get it done! I'm diabetic and I'm drinking the Kool Aid! Go JH, get JD!
  13. but I was wondering if it would be possible to create a forum for leagues in another part of the world, say, Asia or Latin America. Then we could keep tabs on good players from other countries. Thanks!
  14. Red Sox won the Matsuzaka Sweepstakes, the Devil Rays won the bidding for Akinori Iwamura. To my knowledge, Igawa's bidding has yet to commence. Thanks.
  15. Phil thinks the DeRosa signing moves Theriot into the first supersub role ahead of Cedeno (which sounds fine to me). I didn't think Theriot was all THAT tiny ... Two things: First, I'm seriously depressed about JH loving our infield, and mentioning Isturis as our SS. Sort of precludes getting either Lugo or Tejada! :x Second, didn't some team already win the rights to negotiate with Igawa?
  16. I think Michael Wuertz was mentioned as a possible closer. Also, USSoccer would be trading Freddy Garcia to the Yankees. We wouldn't be keeping him. And it's possible that Dempster could be a starter.
  17. If you say it, I totally believe it. If Mark Cuban doesn't get it, I hope Don Levin does. Anyone but Wrigley or the Tribsters.
  18. I agree, Soul. One owner, or a consortium (sp?) of owners who have the best interests of the team, and therefore, the fans at heart; not the interests of stockholders.
  19. Where do you get tickets, Cubs.com?
  20. I'll try to answer: No, there is no guarantee he won't get injured, but if he's platooning and PH, he's less likely to get injured, as Vance already said. One person thinks he'll cost a lot, but then thinks no one will want to offer him $7 million, so he won't cost that much. And please explain your third question.
  21. If he's signed as the fourth outfielder, that's not as much of a problem. 7 million for a bench player is a problem. Vance said 4-5 million, not 7! I highly doubt Alou gets a deal less than 5 million. 5 million for a bench player is not a good idea either. Do you think Jones would be happy about a platoon role? Probably not, but he doesn't hit lefties well at all. I don't know how Lou will tell him that, but I'm sure he'd find a way. I think Vance thought that Moises could make appearances in 100 games. That is a bench player, but it's more. I think it would be reasonable, but that's my opinion.
  22. If he's signed as the fourth outfielder, that's not as much of a problem. 7 million for a bench player is a problem. Vance said 4-5 million, not 7! Where did the $7 million number come from?
  23. In a word...NO! I do remember Alou as being a clutch hitter. Does anyone know if he's had a good OBP over the last several years? BTW, I know he's been difficult with the media, but IMO, his baggage is a lot lighter than Sheffield's. I'd much rather have Alou.
  24. They are not going to blow this thing up! Hendry's Cubs career is riding on this year. Also, McDonough promised to win a WS, and I don't think Lou Piniella would've signed a contract having to wait two to three years. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, and I'm sorry if it will already be posted. Well, then Hendry better look himself in the mirror and go get Aramis signed. Hendry is the one who gave him the out clause to begin with. There is absolutely no reason the Cubs should let Aramis walk. None. I want Aramis back, too. But Hendry's job is at stake. Settling for blowing up the team won't work. Actually, I really wish the Tribsters would've fired Hendry and started fresh. But that would've meant paying Jim for two more years along with paying a new GM. Darn that Andy the Clown!
