Olney mentioned on his podcast today that there is speculation within baseball that Roberts and Maddon could be gone if they get bounced early. Regardless of tonight's outcome, I still find it hard to believe the Cubs would fire a guy 2 years removed from a World Series title and in the middle of a 4 year playoff run. The only way it happens is if the rift between him and the front offense is irreconcilable. I hate the Maddon is "the manager who won the World Series for the Cubs" when he did everything in his power to blow it.
Brett from BN certainly thinks so Olney mentioned on his podcast today that there is speculation within baseball that Roberts and Maddon could be gone if they get bounced early. It really seems like he doesn't want to be there. And I sincerely hope they oblige him.
I have a feeling the next Cubs-related thing worth being happy about will be the firing of Chili and Hickey. Not getting my hopes up about Maddon, but Theo seems unstable, so he’s more likely to do it than most.
