  1. As did my response quoting him and referring to this post, defending you. Hah. Like I said over there, it'll be interesting to see what happens if Carp's spot in the rotation lines up with an early Brewers matchup next year. I hope it does.
  2. I can't pretend to be super-knowledgeable regarding the Cards' finances, but there's definitely a big rift between Cardinal fan perception and what the front office says and does. Most of my friends insist that the Cardinals should be able to afford Pujols since Busch sells 3 million tickets a year, Pujols brings in so much income from jersey sales, etc etc etc. The FO has repeatedly insisted that it simply can't raise the payroll much higher than it is, even if Pujols could win any political election, steal any Cards fan's wife, and generally get away with anything he wants to, as long as he still has the birds and the bat on his chest.
  3. Pretty wicked 1-2 punch thismorning waking up and seeing "Wainwright's getting TJ surgery!" and "Olney thinks the Cubs are serious about Pujols!"
  4. The Mavericks are looking pretty awesome. Don't count them out.
  5. At this point, I assume that Pujols will not be an obvious statistical winner over the other two. And since the Cardinals suddenly decided to play football rules for awhile (by which I mean, winning one game a week = success), he's out of it. So it'll come down to Votto or Gonzalez, depending on whether both teams make the playoffs, and which one wins the stats batte. At this point, I think Votto will get it - and deserves it (cough, this coming from a Cards fan) - over Gonzalez. PS, Adrian G is a dark horse, in my opinion, simply because I think lots of voters might ignore the other players' better stats over Adrian being so productive compared to his absurdly crappy supporting cast in SD.
  6. This made me want to watch the footage of the cops waking up LaRussa when he said "Oh, [expletive]..." and the cops can be heard saying "ya, that's him. That's LaRussa. That's Tony LaRussa". Anyway, people aren't much different from here to there. I am sure that the Braves and Astros and Orioles and Mariners all have drunkenly driving players, coaches, and crappy sports commentators. They're just not getting themselves caught. It's a bummer that the Cards have had drunk driving arrests since Hancock, though, you know? Come on guys, learn from tragedy.
  7. I think it'll be a tight race between Pujols and Votto - depending on who gets to the playoffs. Pujols wins statistically + Cards sneak in = Pujols, unless Dark Horse votes hurt him Pujols wins statiscically but Reds win the Central = Probably a super close vote Votto wins statistically + Reds win = Votto, for sure Votto wins statistically but Cards sneak in = Probably Votto as a new guy, but who knows, maybe Pujols as the "He got robbed by Bonds" guy.
  8. It is pretty funny. And a really good move for the Reds. Plus it helps push this stupid idea that "BASEBALL IS BACK IN CINCINNATI!!!!" it's miserable. i never thought i'd prefer the cardinals winning over the reds, but here we are. It's worse when I (Cardinals fan) have to read other Cardinals fans talk about Cincinnati's greatness. The Reds have outdrawn the Pirates by 200,000 fans. I don't know, man, I really haven't heard many people talk about their 'greatness'. I think they're a 87ish win team, and will be for awhile, assuming their core guys don't explode. Just like when the Brewers were pretty good for a year or two, things come and go. I still have a fond feeling of rivalry for the Cubs, and I still hate the [expletive] Astros forever. In two years, the Pirates might even break .500, and I guess we'll hear some people say they are now our Rivals. I admit, though, it was pretty stupid when FSMW did a live poll during the Cards game today asking who their bigger rival is right now - Reds or Cubs, and like 86% said the Reds. I guess I define "rival" as a team people genuinely root against, even if they aren't close in the standings. Not simply the 1 and 2 in the division wins bar.
  9. Is there a subjective minimum to games played/pitched for ROY candidacy? Posey and Strasburg have gaudier numbers than Heyward and Garcia, but have logged significantly less playing time. Strasburg will probably be the biggest star of the four, but has less than half of Garcia's starts. I figure Stras will win a few more games, Garcia will have a couple of >3ER games, and Strasburg gets it due to massive hype and name recognition. If Posey plays the rest of the season out, he could hit, what, 350 plate appearances, and a 950 ops would possibly get it to him, also. Man, what a headache! To think Castro and Colvin, both having awesomely awesome first seasons, could be the 5th and 6th best rookies in the NL this year.
  10. Ugh, my mom asked me if I'd seen how well he's doing, and that she's happy he's back. She can probably name 15 Cardinals since Ozzie retired.
  11. Poor Roy Oswalt. Just a hair over a 3 era. 117Ks to match 33BBs. And yet he's got almost double the amount of losses as wins.
  12. That was a great read. More and more, I am angry at the stupid Atlanta Hawks. Bastards! 127 million!!!! Johnson would have fit so damn well up here. As it is, I feel like we'll be seeing Heat/Lakers in 10 months.
  13. Not many times in my life as a sports fan that I've gone from liking a player a whole lot to completely rooting against him for his career. If you'd asked me a month ago if I'd have been happy if The Big Three signed together, I would have been all about it. And, honestly, I'll probably have fun watching them in the highlight reels. But, wow, screw you LeBron - I'm only a passing NBA fan and I'm pretty grossed out by your antics since you gave up on the playoffs. (I still wish he'd signed with the Bulls)
  14. Meh, I'm more keen on Morrow, though they're pretty similar as far as I can tell - I've only seen Morrow play for all of 10 minutes or so in the pros, though, so yeah. Morrow's a better 3 point shooter and rebounder.
  15. Non-LBJ chatter: Do you think the Bulls will go for a low or mid budget 2, now? That's the last priority (assuming missing out on a LeBrorgasm), right? I like Anthony Morrow.
  16. I agree with Tim. I have been to NYC one time, back in college. I have a pretty damn good idea just how awesome of a town it is. I also am aware of the large number of celebrities, posh restaurants, tourist attractions, and millions of short people all over the 5 boroughs. Chicago's no slouch. In Chi, he has a much better team to be surrounded by, and still gets to play in a world-class city with a pretty devoted basketball fan base. Bosh made me nervous when he said he wanted to be the top dog, but I just cannot fathom that he'd prefer to keep his pretty 24/12 stat line over a freakin' 68 win machine of a team. I simply haven't heard a possibility on any team, unless some absurd Gasol-for-free kind of deal pops up, that can beat Noah/Bosh/LBJ/Rose/X, in terms of where these FAs could go. These guys gotta be thinking that too, right?
  17. At the same time, I am also nervous that Wade will snag Bosh, LeBron will go to NYK, and the Bulls will, as you correctly say, overpay for Joe freaking Johnson, and have a nice little 50 win team that won't get anywhere in the playoffs. Amare, Johnson, Boozer and David Lee are all gonna see nice paydays, but I don't think any of those four make the Bulls championship caliber. Basically, I'm really, really, really wanting us to snag LeBron or Bosh, or I'll be sadpandaland.
  18. Lots of casual Cards fans like Miles. Lots of casual Cards fans give standing ovations to former players, crappy utility MIs or no. We also give standing ovations to the jet fly-bys for the national anthem, to our old-timer HOF types, kids that catch a foul ball, and beer guys that come out with a fresh case. I think it has something to do with the seat at Busch III.
  19. The only player here who I don't think has a viable argument for is Fielder. Do you honestly think he'll even be in the league in 10 years? Maybe he can keep his body from collapsing by being a DH or something.
  20. I dont see what this has to do with Cardinal anything. Any player in the league is gonna say that Wrigley's conditions aren't the same as other fields. It's not like this is a new developement.
  21. You're right. Through 1/8th of the season, Silva/Dempster were wrongly excluded. Luckily, the Cardinals have a second tandem, Penny/Garcia who are doing better than either of those first two sets. Can everyone keep it up?! Could the MLB see *five* starting pitchers toss a sub-1.0 era this year!? Back onto the thread train: Wow, I truly hope to never see Aaron Miles fight off a 86mph fastball for a weak bloop over the second baseman again. Blech.
  22. He meant top two tandem, I believe, which is definitely a legitimate opinion.
  23. it's a good thing magdal posted this here and not on a cardinals board. on a cardinals board it would have been locked for trolling. but here it can be mocked with impunity. This is untrue. Any team forum (Cardinals obviously included) worth its salt would keep a Magdal thread open, simply for posterity. I mean, jesus, this and the McGwire threads have catapulted the guy into one of my favorite internet posters, ever. Magdal, please, good sir, come back to this thread. How is the 5-years-older-conspiracied, steroid-abusing, on-the-outs, dirty darker-ish-skinned 3rd world ape-man doing lately? What's that? He's back over a 1.0 OPS?
  24. Magdal, I wish we lived near eachother so I could buy you a beer and listen to you talk baseball. It'd be a truly awesome time.
  25. I think Bonds is a jackass and used roids like so many others. One of my least favorite personalities in the game, ever. I'd love to have him as a hitting coach, if we didn't already have another dirty cheating hitter with a superb eye and terrific instincts. Oh, sorry, Magdal, you're right, his BA was low!
