  1. For the city of Chicago and CUBS fans everywhere
  2. I'm down. I'm Irish/German which makes me a confused drunk...seriously though, my geographical location would count me out.
  3. I'm down here across the river from St. Louis so I'll have to celebrate by wearing my CUBS gear around town when I'm out and about.
  4. The CUBS magic number is two while the Brewers magic number is five with three games left. I'd say a one game playoff is highly unlikely at this point, but this scenario does involve the CUBS so anything is possible.
  5. I feel your frustration, but look at the Cards last year. Let's just get there and see what happens. Making the post season is great no matter what your record is. Have people not figured out yet that this is a .500 team and no matter how upset you get with them they are still going to be a .500 team? If by some stroke of luck being a .500 team is good enough to make the playoffs they will. Then they will probably lose in the first round in 4 games. No point in getting all worked up about it every night like this some awesome team that is way underachieving. The problem though isn't that people are expecting a .500 team to overachieve. It's that people expect this team to earn their $100 million+ salaries. And frankly, a .500 record ain't cutting the mustard when you have hundreds of millions committed to franchise players over the next four seasons or more. It's about 400 million or so their committed to...money well spent
  6. I feel your frustration, but look at the Cards last year. Let's just get there and see what happens. Making the post season is great no matter what your record is. Yeah, but do you really think the Cubs are going to do what the Cardinals did? It would be just like the Cubs to win exactly 83 games, make the playoffs, and then get swept in the first round. I know what you're saying. Why make it, barely, just to bow out straight away. I feel ya...I really do. They could get hot at the right time (October) and ride it...you never know. Then again they are the CUBS.

  8. He picked the perfect time to hit his first of the year.
  9. Anybody think Dusty is somewhere fishing with a big smile on his face? Sparky Anderson could'nt manage these hacks.
  10. I could really care less what the roster looks like as long as the CUBS are winning.
  11. Thanks to all those who have contributed thus far, but I will no longer need this thread to keep up. My wife is going to record the games on DVD and send them to me. I'll probably have to wait until 15 April or so to see opening day but at least I'll get to see it. This thread can be un-stickied...thanks again
  12. It's good to hear Guzman is doing well especially since Prior is doing so poorly. I heard Prior's velocity has fallen off. Is it improving? Pie will be in Iowa in my opinion. No rush when the outfield is already crowded. In the near future I see a regular outfield of Murton, Pie, with Soriano moved to RF. I hope Murton starts on a regular basis. I'd hate to see him in a platoon role. Thanks for the updates...
  13. All is quiet on the Eastern front...thus far. He will get in eventually, although he should have been in long ago. Has the injury bug hit camp yet??? Sean Marshall is about a week behind because of shoulder problems from the end of last season and the offseason. Kerry Wood is a few days behind because of his rib injury from falling out of a hot tub. The games start on Thursday (37 hours to go). Here are the scheduled starters: Thursday: Jason Marquis vs. the Giants Friday: Carlos Zambrano vs. the Angels Saturday: Wade Miller vs. the A's Sunday: Rich Hill vs. the White Sox Monday: Mark Prior vs. the Mariners Thanks for the info...

  15. Stay safe my Med Tech friend! I've been over there a "few" times since 1990. TSGT, USAFR 307th RHS, LAFB, TX AFSC: 2SO71 I probably will not leave the FOB (Forward Operating Base)...but I did hear there may be some humanitarian missions to nearby villages. I'm deploying under Army command so anything is possible.
  16. Thanks...I'm told we will have internet access while there, but how often I'm not sure. Again thank you.
  17. So..what you're saying is...The UN is actually doing something? Now I know you're lying :P From what I hear they have taken the lead where I'm going. Surprising to say the least.
  18. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude...thanks to all of you. I will be in a country other than Iraq. Thats all I can reveal right now due to OPSEC (operationial security). I will be training /advising troops under UN command...should be interesting.
  19. Thank you...it does not have to be daily just enough to keep me in the know.
  20. I will be deploying to the Middle East in four days, and I would appreciate it very much if this thread could be used as a news flash on the day to day happenings for the '07 season. Somewhere I can go when time allows to get an honest opinion on the season. I will not be back until September, hopefully in time to watch the CUBS clinch the Central. I'd much rather get the news from fellow CUBS fans on the ups and downs of the season rather than the sugarcoated version via CUBS .com. Any participants in this matter are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tsgt, USAF, NREMT, 4NO71
