  1. i think both are very good at their profession. the players are the ones who didnt do jack in the playoffs.
  2. slightly better than dusty? hahahahaha, please explain that.
  3. he would be the comeback player of the millenium if he somehow became anything near what he was during his peak.
  4. very predictable signing. so's a hard worker, it's good to have guys like that in ST for the younger kids to watch. hopefully dome gets all warm and fuzzy too, which is probably the number one reason taguchi was signed. can't see him making the team.
  5. well, that .959 OPS is from last year... far better than any other year he's had. career OPS is about 100 points lower. still though, very good deal for the Sox.
  6. as have i see, this is what i'm talking about. what does that post even mean. do you speak english? how the hell do you not know what that post means.
  7. oooooh, tell me more. do you know my future as well or just my past?
  8. That'd at least make sense. I'm trying to figure out how you figured out that he wasn't committed without monitoring his work effort. just strikes me as a lazy guy. laid back, california kid who got things handed to him from a teenager on (because of his bad-assery at pitching) and got too wrapped up in the "life is good" mentality. again, i don't doubt his DESIRE to pitch. i just don't think he's a "give it your all" type of guy. to everyone... disagree with me, fine. to suggest that my theory is 100% impossible is just, well, flat out stupid and insanely closed minded. And you think it's okay to make up a complete personality workup of the guy and accuse him of negative personality traits based on nothing but a one-sentence sketch of his background? make up? no. come to a conclusion based on what you know about a person? yeah. YOU DON'T KNOW HIM. LOUD NOISES!!! don't have to know him. read enough articles, seen enough interviews, heard enough from people that do know him to reasonably form an opinion.
  9. so what should people assume then? that he's a gym rat or a guy who never works out? or because we don't know for a fact, should it not even be talked about in your opinion? i'm simply saying we don't know and anyone who wants to claim he's lazy or that he's a gym rat is more than likely just pulling stuff out of his/her rear to justify their already formed opinions about him. people used to say all of this same stuff about Wood. than people got a glimpse of what he was going through (training wise) and he stayed healthy for a year so now he's not a lazy, theiving, pansy anymore. fair enough. in my defense, i wasnt the one who originally brought it up. people take issue with MY taking issue of the "he must work out for hours upon hours" suggestion.
  10. so what should people assume then? that he's a gym rat or a guy who never works out? or because we don't know for a fact, should it not even be talked about in your opinion? Again we have yet to find out for a fact whether or not you are a rapist. what a disturbing thing to have enter your mind.
  11. Overall, (right now) Gathright is a better hitter and baserunner right now and it isn't worth finding out whether or not a below average player (Pie) can improve to become slightly better than another below avg. player (Gathright). i agree. too many people are still holding on to the "pie was a great prospect" mentality. yeah, he was. as in, used to be. he hasn't done anything at all to show that he can succeed at this level. and i know, playing time, sporadic at bats, etc. regardless of whether he has had a good chance, fair chance, etc. or not, he hasn't done anything. that's no one's fault but his own.
  12. Yeah, I know. I just saw it so thought I'd post it. sorry, wasn't trying to imply that it shouldn't be posted! hope it didnt come off that way.
  13. so what should people assume then? that he's a gym rat or a guy who never works out? or because we don't know for a fact, should it not even be talked about in your opinion?
  14. not exactly earth shattering news here. i think everyone who follows the cubs at least on a semi-regularly basis knows this.
  15. uhhhh yeah. let me know if you change your mind and would like to do so. how is making baseless accusations about a player "talking baseball", but exposing it as stupidity is not? you're right though. players can't possibly stay injured for 5 years if they are committed to getting healthy. it's impossible effort, willpower, desire, commitment. look those words up. they all actually mean something. And not a single one of them was going to make him healthy any faster. If you want to say you think he's lazy, so be it. What I do have a problem with is your claim that working harder was going to make him healthier or recover faster. It wasn't going to help, unless he was so dedicated that he went to medical school, became a doctor, examined his own shoulder, found the problem that other doctors (yes, that's plural) missed, and surgically repaired it himself. what a stupid, stupid thing to say. working hard to recover quickly isn't going to make him healthy faster? lol, are you serious here? have you ever had an injury that knocked you on your ass for a bit? i'm guessing not, otherwise you would know that your recovery can be expedited depending on how you intend to recoup. And you're telling other people they need to learn how to read? Yes, hard work can help you recover a little faster WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT THE INJURY IS AND YOU HAVE IT FIXED. In Prior's case - which has been stated no less than 79 times in this thread - he had a shoulder injury that doctors (again, plural) missed. He had this injury for several years. It wasn't even discovered until he was with the Padres. Seriously, please explain to me how someone can magically work hard to rehab an injury WHEN THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE INJURY IS IN THE FIRST PLACE. he had that specific injury for years, or that injury was a result/effect of other previous injuries that occurred?

As someone who had some shared social circles with the guy when he was in Chicago, I can verify that there are quite a few people who have spent a lot of time with him who agree wholeheartedly with you. not surprising. not to me at least. you'll probably be asked for certified court testimony documenting this "evidence" though.
