  1. Interestingly enough, I read somewhere that the name and the old logos were invalidated. However, it appears that the current logo wasn't. Haven't had a chance to verify it officially, but the TTAB ruling had the older logos displayed. That's what I saw too, something like the logo/likeness from like the 70s-90s is what the patent office canceled. Not the current one(s).
  2. You spelt Schwarber wrong
  3. Deng actually plays defense, but still.... With Rose (Assuming at least 80% health), at least 1 of Butler/Gibson (thinking might lose 1 in a Melo S&T), and Noah a lot of Melo's defensive shortcomings can be mitigated. You have guys who can take the best wing player and a rim protector. Also with Thibs I trust he can get a little more out of Melo and/or come up with the right schemes.
  4. I don't blame them for not wanting to go higher and I don't blame him for rejecting it. I agree, I think ~$18 mil AAV is very fair and I don't think he will get much more than that on the open market. Though he could get an extra year or two and higher overall total.
  5. 1-9 is the same for me, like you and others have said 10 to like early 20s is a cluster. I think I'd put Hendricks or Jimenez at 10.
  6. At least they have come down a bit and only are calling him the "best catcher of our generation" and not "greatest catcher of all time." Which they were throwing out a lot last year, iirc. Baby steps...
  7. Jose Bautista then? Buatista was still an OK player when he was in Pit and on the Jays before he blew up. 2006 (first year he got more than 100 ML PA's): .235/.335/.420 16 HR 2007: .254/.339/.414 15 HR 2008: .238/.313/.405 15 HR 2009: .235/.349/.408 13 HR Olt isn't even sniffing those numbers
  8. They control him for 3 more years, don't they? I think 3 more including this year. Point was there was that article earlier this week saying we are listening to offers on all of our SP, now I know part of that is due diligence to gauge how the market values guys, but he was listed specifically. He probably has more value to us, even pitching at 70% of what he's been doing this year than he does to us in whatever he brings in a trade.
  9. I'm thinking we should hold onto Arrieta
  10. Will he be in the lineup tonight?
  11. I'm not the prospect expert here and others are better suited to answer this but just off the top of my head Tseng is top 15 for sure, probably top 10. Paniagua is probably around 20 +/-5. Tseng was 29 and Paniagua was 30 going into the year. Tseng definitely jumps Vitters, Vogelbach, Villanueva, Maples, Hanneman, Z, Dunston Jr for me and Olt + Neil Ramirez graduated. Paniagua probably jumps most of those guys for me too.
  12. There's an 11 year old playing in the LPGA US Open this weekend
  13. The pitching staff has been competitive. Yeah, Samardzija (2.2) and Hammel (2.0) are both top 20 in fWAR for SP, Wood (1.1) is in the top 50, Arrieta (1.3) would be top 50 too if he qualified and Jackson, for as bad as he's been, is 56 overall at .9. Which isn't bad for your 5th worst pitcher.
  14. I'm not getting excited about potential pitchers in a draft a year out
  15. I saw an article the other day that compared him to Pedro Alvarez. That may be about right. Somewhere between Alvarez and Carlos Gomez is what I'm thinking one of his better outcomes is going to be.
  16. And confirmed by the beat writers on Twitter. Nice! Get to see him on Daddy/Daughter princess night on Friday! Sounds awesome
  17. http://m.mlb.com/video/v33770085/cast-your-vote-for-lucroy-for-the-2014-allstar-game
  18. Dejesus might have just died https://vine.co/v/MIElxx2ArWJ
  19. Lee's injury is easily the biggest woulda/coulda/shoulda with the Cubs for me in the past decade outside of Prior. Same, [expletive] Furcal
  20. That usually happens to us in situations like that, not the other team
  21. Sounds like he's pretty much 100% healthy but they are being extra cautious, http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2014-06-14/sports/ct-jorge-soler-cubs-spt-0615-20140615_1_jorge-soler-kris-bryant-arizona-fall-league
  22. Are we going to do a midseason top something (doesn't need to be 50, could be like 20-25)?
  23. except there's a very good chance that taking $100M now is max value didn't Garza turn down something like that, and was forced to accept $50M? Ervin Santana's reward for a 4.5 win (RA-9) season was 1/14 (at age 31) Probably because of the draft pick and his career track record of high variance between being very good to losing rotation spots.
  24. He might just suck I'm probably the biggest Almora fan here and even I'm giving up hope. The only thing going for him at this point is that he's really young. By no means am I giving up but I'm just struggling to find something grasp to other than his age and the fact he isn't striking out that much (like 11%). He's just not doing anything, hitting for average or power. He doesn't even have a crazy low BABIP, it's around .270 last time I checked, which at least could be something to use as a form of an excuse..
