  1. Sure, he shouldn't just be given a job. But he should be considered just as much as rat boy for the last bench spot. Especially if he proves to be as, or more, versatile defensively.
  2. Could Villanueva be a super-sub/utility type guy for us? Can he Play 3B/2B/1B/COF as a bench/platoon type guy?
  3. Soo.... Would we rather have Samardzija or Maeda for the roughly $100 million total investment it should take for each?
  4. Jeimer may be pretty close to a Top 100 prospect at this point. Ok? I think a maybe top 100 prospect is a decent deal for Shields, especially when a pitcher like Samardzija is apparently getting $100+
  5. I could get behind a Shields trade if it's like Jeimer and Pierce Johnson at most and they pay some of the salary
  6. Prior is 35, give him a call. He checks both boxes
  7. Sure, in the Daryle Ward PH role. But I'm guessing he'll be able to find and get paid accordingly for a relative/platoon starting role, no? Dunno. Huntington said they had zero trade interest but that's obviously not the same thing. Yeah I mean on a 1-2 year deal for a couple million I'd love him as a bench bat/hedge on a Rizzo injury but I'm guessing since he's only 28 someone is gonna give him a near starting deal as the strong side of a platoon as a 1B/DH. The Brewers would seem to be a fit and I could see the Orioles making a push for him as a cheaper alternative for Davis.

  9. I'd be fine with Josh Johnson on a minor league deal/ST invite but there's probably a near 0% chance he ever does anything meaningful at the ML level again and he shouldn't be couldn't on for any contributions.
  10. In this market? I don't think that's unreasonable. I'd do 5/$100 for him. I would agree, give him an opt out clause and I'd be in on that deal. Have a feeling we are going to end up with Kazmir and Span/Jackson and we will hear the "we got these guys on such cheap deals, look at what everyone else went for!" narrative. Why would you include an opt out? Opt outs are always going to be something that goes in favor the player, not the team. My thinking is you hope you get good production in the first 2-3 years out of him, maybe get a little discount if you sell him on reuniting with Bosio can fix him and he can try and cash in one more time in the near future. Also helps protect against having him turn into a bad contract towards the end if you feel you can fix him and then in 2-3 years you get to see who's available in the SP market and spend money on a younger/better guy. I know that's an ideal scenario but that's my thought looking at it through the lense of "Bosio can fix him back to where he was 2-3 years ago."

  12. I'd rather just sign Span than trade for Eaton and give up only money than any players. They have pretty similar offensive profiles, unless you think Eaton is a mid-teens or more HR player after last year.
  13. Eh, I really don't like him on 4/60+ (I think there's some major bust potential to him with his age/injury history). I'd rather go to 5/90 for Shark. The savings on him over Shark would have to make it possible to make a run at Heyward for me to really like it if money is tightish
  14. If Kobe's last act is helping the Lakers get Ben Simmons, then he take 17 3's every game for all I care. Agreed. For as bad as this team looks this year if they get the 1 and Simmons, suddenly Russell/Clarkson/Simmons/Randle as building blocks with a ton of cap space is maybe the best young core/brightest future team in the league. Also looking at their schedule right now, I honestly don't even see a potential win until they play Philly next on Jan 1.
  15. In a way that was a huge loss (in a good way) for the Lakers tonight. Puts them only 1 game behind 76ers for worst record and with only playing them twice they likely have to at least lose 1 of the H2H match ups if not both, also their pick is only top 3 protected this year so they really need to finish in the bottom 2 of the league to have a top 3 relatively secured.
  16. I don't think the Zimmerman deal does a whole lot to Sharks market in terms of contract size. Zimmerman at 5/110 seems about right and makes shark at 4/65-5/85 seem reasonable
  17. 45 days? Free agency started November 7th. 45 days would be prior to Christmas and guys of significance wait past that time to sign. It's not just the length though, the point is nothing happens early on, whereas other leagues have a first day spending spree. We're three weeks in and Rich Hill to Oakland is one of the biggest moves still. I feel like most guys sign by Christmas but maybe I am wrong A very large chunk will, but I feel like Christmas - New Years is a big week for big guys and quite a few last into January. Yeah I guess my 45 days was a little off, but in my head I was thinking start of FA-around Christmas seems to be when most guys sign and I pegged 45 days on it.

  19. I'd also add to TT's, which is a good summation, that MLB FA really doesn't last that long. By and large it's about 45 days from the day FA starts and most guys of any significance are signed. Sure it's longer than other leagues but it's not that long.

  21. Nothing Cubs specific in that article, all focused on Boston how how they want him/will he want to go there/etc.
  22. He has asked his team to post him
  23. I've had this problem too, but it's sporadic
  24. We've come a long way from what our Top 10 prospects looked like after the Garza trade. Keith Law weeps while eating a pie somewhere after hearing this news
  25. Looks like a really cool technology/material. As the article states I'm guessing the main reason to use it was to save time which, when considering the scope of the project, could lead to some significant speed up in the timeline.
