  1. Ryan DFA'd and we re-claimed Olmos or whatever his name is that we claimed and released earlier in the offseason
  2. Justin Upton, is a good comp for Soler in terms of ceiling. Especially 2014 Upton, 9.4% BB%, 26.7% K% .270/.342/.491 slash line.
  3. Isn't that like how 90% of relievers come about?
  4. I think these are the starters, unless there's a trade. I think Soler and Zobrist will be flipped there though. We'll presumably be facing Garrett Richards (RHP) so I think Coghlan starts over Javy and we go for the better defense in the OF.
  5. What's their over under on wins? I don't think those come out until February or March
  6. Yeah, with the expected plethora of celebrations I'm guessing for Rizzo it was too much for him to continue to undertake by himself while still focusing on playing so he probably went to Theo and Jed and said just hire Baker to take care of the party planning and shenanigans
  7. Either that or the TBS day/afternoon game
  8. Jose Vidro was always a guy I wanted to get as well.
  9. you reverse racist weirdo. jim edmonds was fun as hell to watch. only in 2008 i wanted the cubs to get him and rolen so bad before the cardinals did. Scott Rolen was the first player I can remember really wanting the Cubs to acquire/being old enough to follow and understand FA/Trades.
  10. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the advanced stats say Edmonds wasn't that great in CF he just made a lot of highlight reel/SportsCenter highlight plays so that's what we remember and a lot of the balls he had to make highlight plays on better fielders get to easier and not having to make such plays.
  11. It would also be nice to see him get his K% down into the low 20s if not high teens.
  12. He's a borderline guy to begin with before you even start looking at all the guys he should be behind with the backlog of the past few years along with new guys added
  13. Yeesh, I don't know...he loses a ton of value if he's not behind the plate. Yeah that's true. Maybe they will put him there vs LHP in a sort of platoon since Adams and Moss are their current options.
  14. I wonder if they will consider moving Molina to 1B to help the wear and tear a little bit
  15. i feel kinda bad for them I'm gonna enjoy drinking Thom and Marty Brennaman's tears, [expletive] them
  16. The Reds and Brewers are going to be really bad this year
  17. The Royal pen was better than ours. The Royals also have more team speed and are better defensively. Our bullpen had more total WAR by a slim margin 5.4 vs. 5.3 and we had more players with WARs over 1 than them 3 vs. 1. The narrative that Cubs had a bad bullpen last year or have a bad or questionable one going forward (outside of expected bullpen variance/unpredictability) needs to stop.
  18. At this point I'm completely fine going into the season with what we have outside of a few ST invites/minor league FA deals/International signings, then evaluate if we need pitching or anything else around the deadline and do a deal then. The only way I'd like to see us add a starter right now would be if we could do it for entirely minor league players.
  19. Bo Ryan just announced he's retiring immediately in his post-game press conference.
  20. Lebetard isn't all that bad, he's actually pretty good when compared to his peers on ESPN and the like. I'll always have a soft spot for him for when he sold his MLB HOF ballot to Deadspin.
  21. This Pete Rose press conference is something
  22. What's the word on him? Has anyone seen anything? Not that I expect us to be involved
  23. I know it's baseball and stuff happens but there's really only 8 realistic teams for the 5 playoff spots. Cubs, Pirates, Cardinals, Mets, Nats, Dodgers, Giants and D'Backs. Everyone else is bad to [expletive] terrible. funny thing (to kyle's earlier point) is steamer has the reds and marlins ahead (albeit slightly) of the dbacks. Yeah I guess if they get a lot of things to break right the Marlins could be in contention for a spot (Fernandez/Stanton health, Ozuna/Yellich take a leap, Dee Gordon's BABIP) and while right now I can see the Reds projections being okay, everyone expects them to sell off so they probably won't touch their projections as of today.
