I'm giving McKinney the benefit that he's still coming back from that knee injury/surgery and that this early on it is still kind of his spring to get things clicking.
I wonder if he finally committed to lengthening his stride, iirc Law is always harping about that with him. He usually has a short stride towards home that Law thinks hurts him and the few times he's lengthened it he's had positive results but just hasn't been able to do it consistently.
Was just looking at the Smokies page on Fangraphs with the Young talk, my god that lineup must grind pitchers to a pulp. Rademacher, Caratini, Young, Zagunis and Jeimer all have BB% rates over 16% and McKinney is at 11%.
They didn't mention any specific numbers but on the Effectively Wild pod the other day they were saying that pitcher's velo is typically lower in April and goes up as the season goes along. They didn't say by how much on average or how long it takes to stabilize, however. Got it. That makes sense especially in both of Harvey and deGrom's cases where they have missed some time in spring/this year already that they are a bit behind and may not be 100% ready to go yet. Thought it was interesting at least, especially in deGrom's case, 3 MPH is significant.
Looking through Fangraphs.... Both Harvey and deGrom have some velo red flags. DeGrom is down ~3 MPH across the board on all his pitches from last year and Harvey is down anywhere from 1.5-2 MPH on all his pitches. Probably too early in the year to take too much away from but it's something to keep and eye on over the next month or so to see if they regain some velo from their early season starts.
Thom now showing his misunderstanding of player control/FA, saying "in only a few years the rubber will meet the road with these young players and we will see who they can keep."
I would think Rondon pitches the 9th? He hasn't pitched since the Cardinals series and there's an off day tomorrow so it's not like it would overly affect his availability in the coming home stand.
I wonder if the Angels would make Richards available, he's someone I would give significant pieces up for. I'd prefer him to Gray assuming the asking prices were similar.
I have the Reds feed on, it's weird, he's been blabbering for a few minutes on it. I have no idea what kind of point he thought he was making but it was pretty much nonsense, I'm sure he thought it was a profound idea.
