  1. Add Eloy and some combo of Jeimer/Zagunis/Caratini/Pitchers and I think that gets us in the door for conversations/consideration if they were taking offers. It came up back in spring when there was some speculation about trading for Trout, but I don't know that I'd do it...granted, in this case, it's only Schwarber, Baez, and CJ off the MLB roster, but we're so stacked that I don't think consolidating that many talented players to get from, I don't know, 95 projected wins to 99 or something, is really worth it. Having the depth affords you some injury protection, and you already have plenty of really high end talent, especially positionally. Not that I'd shed a single tear over it either. I'd be super excited. I just think there's a bit of a diminishing returns thing going on there. And it would help us lock in some more elite performance in the uncertain future years beyond the very near term. To be completely honest, my view probably made more sense when we were talking about stuff like Bryant and Addy + more back in May than in this case. Agree. And my "proposal" is more what I think it would take more than what I'd really like to give. I'd love to have him, even at that price but agree on the dimishing returns along with upgrading in a spot (OF) we are theoretically deepest in where we have to look at the opportunity cost giving up all those guys to upgrade there vs a spot of real need (pitching) over the next 1-3 years.

  3. Same. Soler plus lottery picks is easier to stomach then Chapman for Torres +. I'd rather just trade like Duane Underwood and/or minor league spare parts for K-Rod than trade Soler for Davis and his elbow problems
  4. Here's a fun thread for laughs.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=34807
  5. Yeah I'm pretty sure they've already said they are going Polanco-Marte-McCutchen left to right if that's their OF going into the year.
  6. Leadership? McCutchen is one of the best dudes in the league, isn't he? Good dude, yes. Team leader? No. Hmm :-k
  7. I think a good part of this is the Nationals "negotiating" through the media a bit, if that's what you want to call it. They know/knew about how much it would take, there were a ton of articles last year saying Bryce would/could be the first $500+ million contract on top of them seemingly planning for it by going with the payment schedule to Scherzer and Strasburg (I think they did it with his too) that pay them well beyond their playing days. On top of this being 2 years away. He'll definitely hit FA and isn't signing anything early but they know the likely cost.

  9. For a healthy Wade Davis, sure. For a 50/50 shot at a healthy Davis, Ill pass. My feelings on this as well
  10. He'll be worth it or come damn near close and probably have an opt out around age 31 season

  12. No horsefeathering thank you
  13. Obviously not apples to apples, but if the medicals show he's healthy I wonder what we could get out of them for Rondon if they are all in on acquiring a "closer." Maybe they are just that enamored with Jansen and he's their guy and will spend whatever it takes but you'd think they'd be intrigued by Rondon if he checks out health wise/Theo can spin anything.
  14. what? why would they feign a fight to keep him out? No it's cool because then the story will be "Cubs bend, Break?, rules to get the best Japanese pitcher ever." Then everyone will hate us, when deep down it will just be a rage jealousy, and it will be glorious.
  15. Perhaps I've over estimated Wilson's value but I doubt we could get him for Grimm alone. I understand he has another year of control but I still doubt it. It's about adding another dynamic to the pen. We have the finesse lefties but I think a power guy would be big. There aren't many lefties that average 95. He's basically a LH Strop, which is awesome. What would be your offer? It shouldn't take more than like Szczur, Donnie Dewees and a lottery ticket arm/low level guy. At least I wouldn't pay anymore than that.
  16. That would intrigue me. Any combo of him Uehara, Blevins, Ziegler, Hudson would be fine by me if we don't get Jansen/Chapman.
  17. I was in Vegas last weekend and got to watch, and bet on, UCLA a few times. They are really good and seem to have a bit of everything, I was able to still bet them at 25/1 to win it all before I left. Which I think is/was really great value. Considering most of the teams you'd think to bet on to win it all (Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc) were under 10/1 and a lot were inside 5/1. I'll be impressed if an Alford team advances past the Sweet 16. I think they looked good enough and I put enough down that if they can get to the 8 I should be able to start locking in some decent money betting against them.
  18. Also the fact his slider is his wipeout pitch and who knows how much he is going to trust throwing that thing at max effort and/or how much he's lost on it as well.
  19. I like your ideas
  20. Well, I suppose we can just wait until the deadline again to trade for a good closer [tweet] [/tweet]
  21. He's not all that great though, especially if the proposals you've thrown out is what he's going to cost. I have no idea what his cost will be but I'm estimating Soler's value to be quite low being a DH who hasnt hit and I figure you need to add an MLB arm to get the deal done. Grimm is at the bottom of the totem pole so I'd think he'd be the first to go. Soler and Grimm for Wilson is a terrible waste of resources for us and I don't think either are worth all that much to begin with. That move doesn't make us any better and probably slightly worse, imo. And again, if you look at the numbers from last year Wilson and Grimm were pretty similar pitchers.
  22. Are you Wilson's brother or something? Pretty sure the past 20 or so posts you made have been about getting Justin Wilson in a trade. I think a lefty that averages 95 would be a great addition to the pen and nobody else is mentioning him He's not all that great though, especially if the proposals you've thrown out is what he's going to cost.
  23. Aren't you gonna get USC in the Rose Bowl? That's a pretty marquee game
