  1. Eh, good writers should be able to formulate their arguments against certain guys like Jeff Kent or whomever they get called out on. What this does is put those 16 idiots who didn't vote for Maddux in an impossible spot now that they actually have to defend that crappy non-vote. Oh, the good is going to far out-weigh the bad by weeding out the true idiots. I'm just saying since they've done such a bad job in the past voting guys in that even "good ballots" are going to come under scrutiny for leaving a guy(s) off because there are just too many options. It's absolutely a great move to make them public, just pointing out what I think is going to happen.
  2. I like it. The problem is though that the ballot is becoming so full of qualified guys that people (the internet) is going to have a problem with almost every ballot cast since there's going to be like 50 different permutations of ballots that aren't necessarily right or wrong.
  3. I still don't see a ton of AS/upside level guys in their system. They all seem like really nice pieces and decent prospects but not cornerstone guys. Idk, I'm not a prospect guy so maybe I'm off but that's my impression.
  4. Hopefully they go back to positioning him differently and he regresses to being a sucky defensive CF
  5. Heyman is saying the Jays offered Fowler 4 years around $60 million

  7. I think Jesse Rogers tweeted earlier they were looking for a veteran catcher to stash in the minors. Don't think the intent is to carry 3 catchers like last year, just have a Federowicz type guy in Iowa for emergencies. Oh, I know. Just poking fun at Fed's uselessness. Yeah, figured you were just joking just more clarifying if anyone on the board was confused with the tweet what the intent of "3rd catcher" addition would be. Part of it too is to probably have a veteran guy in AAA to coach Caratini along.

  9. That would seem to make sense.... Maybe it's just for an arm reliever, but if it's the start of something bigger.... How much value does Profar still have? Could him and like Soler lead a package for Odorizzi? I kind of doubt it. He's down to 3 controllable seasons and obviously has lost lots of value too. He'd be a guy to try and get though, if you were moving Javy in an Archer deal though..... Very true.... The FO may see this as a prime opportunity to sell high on Javy if they don't believe in him long-term offensively. Profar would be a decent sub on the bench taking Javy's spot. There's also this, i.e. Profar [tweet] [/tweet]

  11. This definitely sounds like the Braves or Rays would be matches here. Pitchers I like with options left: Mike Clevinger Daniel Norris Archie Bradley Sean Newcomb Carlos Rodon Luis Severino Jose Berrios Tyler Skaggs? Might not have options Blake Snell Brett Honeywell Eduardo Rodriguez should probably be on that list and someone I forgot in my quick mention of guys. He has to options left.
  12. Nats GM- "Dusty, we lost Melancon to the Giants today, but it looks like we have a real chance of getting Chris Sale." Dusty- "Great! Sale can start every 5 days and close a day or two in between starts like Kershaw did against us in the playoffs, right?"

  14. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet] Idk who's available that this fits, but I'd guess Montgomery types of guys who were good-decent prospects, came up and struggled and maybe lost a role with their current team? Maybe someone like Archie Bradley or Mike Foltynewicz or Wisler from the Braves?
  15. Joey Gallo only had the 81st worse K% rate in MLB last year, not bad until you realize that's of all players who had at least 1 PA and all 80 players in front of him are pitchers.
  16. Every team has its limits they're pretty much non existent when you have as much surplus value as they cubs do (though they're going to have to pay up for pitching) tied up in cost controlled players, a huge windfall in TV money coming when the team is the most popular it's ever been, and the cherry on top of a sellout everyday at the league's highest ticket prices. There's also savants running this team from a business and operational stand point along with a [expletive] Ricketts in the White House. There are no limits
  17. I'll take the last 4-5 years of Ken Griffey SR's career offensively at this point...
  18. Nice. Texas has a bunch of quality bullpen arms, though I wonder if they could aim for Profar or Gallo in an expanded deal. Nah, probably not. Would be nice if they could, though. What the hell would we do with Gallo? Or are you saying bring a 3rd team in to send him to? If that's the route, maybe there's a 3-team trade where Soler and stuff ends up in Texas, Profar, Gallo, Happ and stuff (admittedly big stuff yet) end up in Tampa and Archer and a RP end up with us.
  19. Looks like the Cardinals and Royals are talking about a trade involving Wong+Prospects for some combination of Davis/Cain/Dyson.
  20. Pretty much, hopefully we at least can find 2013 Heyward in the adjustments this offseason.

  22. Whaaaa? The Cubs' IF has two MVP perrenial candidates, an AS SS, and one of the best players of the past decade at 2B. The OF's current best player is Jason Heyward. I meant it more as we have the most options out there, yes the IF is our strength best part of the team but the OF has a lot more moveable parts. All but like 3 position players on what would be the current active roster can't/haven't played the OF over the last 2 seasons and all of Schwarber, Soler, Jay, Almora, Heyward, Bryant, Zobrist, Contreras are reasonable options to play out there this coming year under varying circumstances.

  24. It could be even more simple than that, that the commissioners office or players union or some combo can allow guys to come over outside of the set IFA rules at their discretion for the betterment of the game.
