  1. I mean there’s only like 6 to 8, 5 WAR pitchers a year and it’s not likely he hits much more than 150-175 innings this year.
  2. Can look at the schedules and what not but just watching Bama and OSU play both a few times this year they seem pretty close talent wise from the “eye test.” I’m not going to think either team got screwed or really deserved this last spot more than the other.
  3. Click through to see more tweets from him on the topic, doesn’t mention us as having a meeting (only Mariners and Yankees).
  4. I look forward to Paul Dejong being sent to AAA by the ASB next year and non-tendered in the offseason
  5. Pedro Strop is a pretty damn good relief pitcher, if most of our pitching prospects can turn in to that I’m completely fine with it with the nature of their suckage. I know there’s a want for more and would be nice develop some middle rotation guys at least but middle-high end RPs aren’t bad outcomes for most minor league pitching prospect.
  6. This is why I expected both to be tendered. I figured ~1.5 million was a worthwhile gamble, considering how much payroll we presumably have. Either Rondon's arm is seriously horsefeathered, or we've got less money to play with than I thought. If the latter, I wonder if it means we plan on spending a ton or if we're going to tighten the belt a little in preparation for next winter. Even if he is healthy he hasn’t performed well and he wasn’t gonna be cheap. He would get $7-8 mil+, that can go a long ways towards something else rather than for a guy who’d be competing for one of the last bullpen spots.
  7. Yeah not surprising (makes no sense and he hasn’t really shown why $7-8+ mil is smart to give to him ) but sad to see him go, when he was right he was awesome. Hope he finds success elsewhere
  8. If/when the Giants get him I really don't get it, they are more than a Stanton away and if they really are cool with committing to $300 million this offseason idk why they wouldn't just go sign like 1 of Fraizer/Moustakas/Walker for 3B, 2 or 3 of Cain, Gomez, Cargo, Bautista, Jay, Kendrick for the OF, a Tillman, Garcia, Vargas type for some rotation innings at the back end and then like 2-3 of the middle tier FA RP like Nicasio, McGee, Kintzler, etc. That would be a more well rounded and competitive team, imo and probably can get it for less than the commitment on taking on all of Stanton's contract with room to still jump in to next years FA bonanza.
  9. I assume this is a showing of good faith sacrifice to the Japanese league to get Otani
  10. VB's avoided arbitration with Vogt for just over $3 million. I didn't think it was possible but I think he has a worse arm than Miggy.
  11. Avila has apparently said he'd be open to a backup role on a contending team, I've kinda just assumed someone would give him a starting or near starting role as a strong side of platoon guy (and like 3+ years and $20 + mil). But if he's willing to be a backup, getting him on a 2 year deal for like $11-15 million would be something that very much intrigues me.
  12. Seems like he’s gonna be going there or this is a last minute ploy by Stanton/his reps/Marlins to get the Dodgers in on it.
  13. I'm sure Theo will figure out multiple arguments in his presentation and face to face to persuade him that avoiding the AL/DH is better for his overall development and ability to be both a pitcher and hitter long term and the NL/the Cubs are the best route to go to achieve the 2-way player dream. Something like pitching every 4 days and getting 2-4 PAs a game along with some occasional PH appearances is better for him to ease in to hitting to start with instead of baptism by fire going to the AL/DH where if he struggles right away AL teams may not let him hit again. He's at the very least guaranteed to hit every start in the NL and go from there to making some OF spot starts as he grows as a hitter and can focus mostly on getting acclimated to pitching in a new league/country to start with.
  14. You'd think we are one of the teams involved here (even though I'm not the biggest fan)
  15. Question on compensation.... would offering to pay for his housing, transportation, etc. in Chicago and Arizona and flights/trips to and from Japan for him, his friends and family count monetarily towards his bonus? Or could that be stuff in the grey areas that could at least help persuade him?
  16. It's just nice knowing we have Theo/smart FO and we are going to get the best effort and probably most well prepared pitch, when in the past our presentation would probably have gone as well as Roger Sterling interacting with the Japanese businessmen.
  17. So it’s up to 30 Days from Friday for him to decide, right? Which would put New Years as the deadline?
  18. Yeah that’s where I’m at. If Theo really wants this guy, which the article says, I have irrational faith. I think if we don’t get him Theo will view this as his first failure since running things (I think it’s a bit harsh given the constraints but seems like something he still be pissed about 10 years from now that he didn’t get it done).
  19. Wish it was 3 years but the aav isn’t bad
  20. I’m completely fine with giving Darvish the 5/150 or 6/180 (or whatever it was) if it guarantees we get Otani
  21. For a 17/18 year old he's certainly bigger and filled out but I wouldn't say he's fat. He's kinda built like Starlin in that he certainly looks like he could lose 10-15 lbs and isn't in the greatest shape/ripped but isn't overweight, imo, from a quick google image search (and they are in game/BP/fielding practice in Braves gear so I assume they are only maybe 10 months old at most and probably more like 4-6 months).
