In all seriousness, under which combination of players given up + Marlins eating salary would people be cool with acquiring Stanton? If it’s just Stanton I’d do Happ or Almora and Alzolay and they throw in ~$50 mil kicked in during options years and I’d willing to take back Volquez, Tazawa or Ziegler this year too. For Stanton and Yelich I’d do Almora, Happ, Alzolay, and other minor leaguers and they throw in ~$50 mil in the option years and again take back a Volquez, Tazawa or Ziegler as well.
Go figure out a way to get both Yelich and Stanton, Theo. I know we likely won’t get him and I don’t know if he makes a ton of sense but you do have to think we’d at least poke around and look in to what an offer would need to be for us to get him if we are only 1 of 4 teams he’d go to.
nope we're good in the infield, on offense, and positionally in general i do want super-team status but i'd rather just do that by signing bryce next year Yup, pretty much how I feel. Like I said I saw they were taking offers and figured I’d throw out a thought exercise on it and tried to peg what a trade would look like that makes some sense. But I’m totally in the camp of don’t trade anyone this offseason.
I’m fine that he picked the Angels if not us, it’s one of the least threatening options. But it makes no sense to me he picked there from a baseball perspective. They have no room in the OF to give him ABs and Pujols is stuck at DH and I find it hard to believe, even if rightfully so, they are just going to bench him a ton and that he’d accept that. Also they are worse at keeping pitchers healthy than the Mets. This makes no sense.
The Orioles are taking calls on Machado...... would you do something like Russell, Almora or Happ, Monty, Alzolay, and other prospects for Machado, Britton and Gausmen or Bundy with no guarantee Machado would be open to signing here after the year (I doubt he’d agree to an extension as part of the trade)? More of just a thought exercise than something I even like or want to do.
I hope not, personally. I hope we just spend money on it. I’d even rather do something like sign 2 of Jaime Garcia, Hellickson, Chacin, Feldman, Cahill, etc for the #5 spot and with Monty and even Chatwood just Dodger it and play 10 day DL games with the 4/5 spots and rotate guys in and out of it through the year than trade any of our position players for pitchers and/or if we want to stay out of the upper-middle tier of FA SPs.
I think part was waiting for Ohtani but also it seems like a lot more teams are in on Cobb (us, Yankees, most of the Ohtani finalist I’ve seen mentioned, Twins and others). Could be he’s weighing offers or his price is just too high for us now for years/money. Could easily see 4 years guaranteed being the floor for him (may take even 5) and probably $15-$20 aav (probably closer to 20 than 15). At that I’d probably prefer going after Darvish or Arrieta for another year or 2 at about $25 aav.
Get Yelich in the Stanton trade (add Almora if needed or take on volquez to keep him if he’s included make Austin Jackson the FA OF) and that’s basically the Theo FU offseason
Yes, but it would have to be some sort of super trade where we got Stanton, Yelich + bad contract (Volquez, Tazawa, Ziegler, etc.) too and they’d get like 1 of Almora or Happ, Seal Boy, Alzolay and Zagunis
Their top 10 is garbage to begin with, much like ours. It’s not like it’s going to take years to replace these prospects traded away, regardless if they get Ohtani. Their GM is literally addicted to trades and I don’t think this moves the needle much at all.
