  1. bobby valentine lol LOL
  2. There’s no way Ralph has a “Japanese Source”
  3. This is how I feel too
  4. I'm surprised 2 teams traded for slot money back to back. Wonder if there's word that he wants more money, or if they're both desperate? Seems like a desperate, last ditch, effort to me with 2 teams doing it back to back where they feel they don’t have an edge and they feel this moves a needle. Or else I guess it could likely mean nothing and maybe they are doing it for Braves guys or something else.
  5. They clearly heard we got him in the bag and this is a last attempt to woo him with more money
  6. ESPN/Disney controlling the FS regional networks is interesting for baseball. Will be interesting to see if they get out of those as soon as deals are up or are looking at MLB regional FS networks as a growth market/opportunity/just a generally solid asset.
  7. Get fucked, St. Louis [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. Welp, that alleviates that likely non-concern on my end lol We clearly wooed him enough he told the Padres they gotta cram in their time to yesterday to get a token pitch when his mind was already made up.
  9. Hold on to your butts [tweet] [/tweet]
  10. I don't think he's not willing to go to the Giants, he just wants to go to the Dodgers more and is trying to drag things out for them to get involved
  11. Wily Peralta got a major league deal with the Royals, he’s been a guy I’ve liked for a while to try and turn in to a relief pitcher on a minor league deal. Didn’t think there was any way he’d get a major league deal.
  12. With the Padres tomorrow (and likely either no or only a few teams to do follow up meetings/trips after) hopefully this is all over by the weekend, for better or for worse.
  13. What? Are you upset that he didn't immediately cancel the meetings with those other teams after the Cubs' presentation lol? If I had to guess he’s upset the Padres get the last pitch since there was that report of the respect or whatever he has for all the guys who work for them he’s played for before and he felt it would be disrespectful or hard to let those guys down by picking a different team. That’s my only guess. But Theo’s got this.
  14. Other than throwing strikes I think I Kintzler horsefeathering sucks, especially on a multi-year deal (which I assume he’ll get).
  15. Another thing I've been thinking about with him is that we seem to have a big advantage with his living situations. If he's really that big of a homebody and just doesn't like doing things but play baseball, playing for us allows him to literally live within 3-10 blocks of the stadium (so doesn't need to drive or be driven to navigate a huge city if he doesn't want to as he could pretty much be self-contained to just Wrigleyville) which I don't think any other team can offer. He'd have to deal with driving/being driven and a larger city in almost every other case since he would have to live further away. Hell with the new apartments/condos he could literally live across the street from the stadium if he wanted. If he just wants to eat, sleep and live baseball we offer him a great (probably best) option logistically/housing wise.
  16. I want this guy to be our little baseball weirdo savant so bad since we already have the weirdo baseball savant in the FO
  17. "Please accept our modest gift as our guests, it's The Cubs Way by Tom Verducci, everything you will need to know is in it." http://media.masslive.com/television_impact/photo/episode-5-pete-ichirojpg-bdd319c87f8c5845_large.jpg
  18. I could see the Mikolas signing by the Cardinals somewhat being a byproduct of this, not that they know where Ohtani is going just that they knew they were out so moved on to another option
  19. No, the Cubs Way was an unwritten discipline that they developed that Verducci shared insight into in a book he called The Cubs Way. pretty sure it was actually written Yeah I'm pretty sure it's an "employee manual," for a lack of a better word for it, that Theo/FO authored.
  20. Just a general question more than anything but does he speak any English or only Japanese?
  21. That has to be his years money, since they would be a penalty team starting next year? Maybe an indication they are either out in Ohtani or again further confirmation he doesn’t give a horsefeathers about the signing bonus.
  22. I don’t know if Rogers and writers like him are just stupid or are being intentionally obtuse to keep a narrative alive that can lead to more content/pageviews (since talking about trading Schwarber, Russell, etc is going to get clicks even if off base).
  23. Wish he visited Chicago last weekend when it was actually decently warm I don’t know if it’s true and forgot where I saw it but I saw in the last week that Ohtani is basically from and lives in an area of Japan with a similar climate to Minnesota/Wisconsin/Illinois so idk how much he will care about climate especially because it seems like he goes out of his way to be home a lot.
