  1. Why would they need more money then? he told them he might as well get maxed out if he’s going to sign there and they are in no position to say no. Nah we still got him, these teams trading for money are having delusions of grandeur
  2. Why would they need more money then?
  3. They’re desperate putz’s who know they aren’t desirable and bombed their interviews so they are trying to throw money at the problem
  4. Money literally doesn’t matter to this weirdo. Or else Theo offered to pay $300k in bitcoin so he’ll have his $200 million by NYE with the rate it’s rising

  6. Theo always gets his man
  7. Really, really, really, really smart visionary, Aj Preller, wants to spend a 9 figure deal on the easiest position to fill in MLB to sign Eric Hosmer who’s been worth literally 0, 3.5, -.1 and 4.1 fWAR the last 4 years. So smart.

  9. It’s too bad it doesn’t matter
  10. Well, 2B is now open in Miami for Panik

  12. Will you think this isn't a good deal if we sign Ohtani then bring in 1 or 2 AAAA filler types (Garza, Gee, Buchholz, etc)? Or if the 6-man rotation has some legs and we add Cobb and Ohtani? Or if we trade for a SP of a Cobb level? If you think this is our only significant SP add of the offseason then I get the hate/worry but I highly doubt it is and very well could be the "worst" pitcher we add.
  13. This describes like 80% of the Dodgers rotation the last 2-3 years (Hill, Wood, Kamir, McCarthy, Ryu, Maeda, etc) and they've done just fine and the Astros did it with Morton. This is a perfectly fine move and way to build a rotation for a WS contender (especially when you have anchors like Lester, Q, Hendricks, Kershaw, Kuechel, Verlander, etc.) Wasn't morton's contract $12 million over 2 years? The only dodger pitcher that sort of compares to this is McCarthy and I don't think that worked out great. Hill and Kazmir were much better pitchers than Chatwood has been. Ryu and Maeda hadn't pitched in MLB. Didn't they get Wood basically for free in a trade? If the Cubs gave Chatwood the contract Morton signed nobody says a word. It's only "puzzling" to some because he got 3 years at decent money after being a combination of bad and injured most of his career. All those guys have similar risk profiles though. Morton was 2/14 with some incentives with IP/GS, Hill is 10 years older than Chatwood and got $10 million more plus an additional year and has pitched ~60 less innings the last 2 years, Kazmir was signed coming off of 2 really nice years but he was 31 when he signed and there were plenty of red flags and got 3/48, Wood is cheap and gotten for cheap but carries a injury risk and they depend on him more than the Cubs will likely depend on Chatwood this year, and Ryu/Maeda were risks coming over with not huge profiles of being more than back of the rotation guys (Maeda a little more hype than Ryu). They all are pitchers that carry risk is what my main point is and the Dodgers have a lot more than we do and it's a fine way to build your middl-end of the rotation if you don't have minor leaguers coming up/ability to give out multiple Lester type deals.
  14. That's nearly perfect, surprised he didn't end it with "unless he decides to take more time"
  15. There's certainly downside/risk but it's not a ton of money or years and there's a ton to like especially for a guy who is going to end up our 4th or 5th starter (with upside) and it's not going to be our only move.
  16. Because there's nothing the slightest bit puzzling about it. You can not like Chatwood, but this move replaces Lackey with a younger, cheaper pitcher who was twice as valuable as Lackey last year. I don't want to be arguing against this because I don't hate it, but a WS contender giving 3 year commitment to a guy that hasn't been very good who has had 2 tommy John surgerys can be puzzling. John Lackey being trash doesn't have anything to do with the 2018 rotation. This describes like 80% of the Dodgers rotation the last 2-3 years (Hill, Wood, Kazmir, McCarthy, Ryu, Maeda, etc) and they've done just fine and the Astros did it with Morton. This is a perfectly fine move and way to build a rotation for a WS contender (especially when you have anchors like Lester, Q, Hendricks, Kershaw, Kuechel, Verlander, etc.)
  17. From Sharma, it's a negligible amount but still something.....
  18. Seriously, tho, if they do this, this makes them less of a threat against us for Harper right? I would think this almost certainly would take them out of it. It just wouldn't make much sense to have $600+ million tied up in outfielders. I think they'd be more in on Machado than Harper anyways (move Turner to 1B and Bellinger to the OF for 1-2 years until Tuner is gone, move Turner to 2B or Seagar to 2B and Machado at 3B/SS).
  19. Two take aways from this for future things is it appears the FO really does like something(s) about the curveball, going back to the draft almost every pitcher was noted for his curve or potential of a curve (after that report that we found a pitch/something on a pitch and were going heavy in on it) and also the acquisition of Quintana and to a way lesser degree still sticking with Grimm since the curve is his main secondary pitch and also it appears we are putting weight behind spin rates and effectiveness/predictability.

  21. I really, really like this. Chatwood was probably my favorite non-Ohtnai target just because there was so much under the surface/outside of Coors things to love. I thought Lackey's 2/32 deal was a good target price for him so I'm completely fine with 3/38. Now go get Ohtani, Theo.
  22. The Cardinals have really become a second rate organization
  23. Anybody have a subscription to give the tidbits?
  24. Yeah, lol. I was going to say earlier today but forgot that it does seem like Passan probably has the most inside info on this (which is still limited) or at the very least seems to have the inside source for when things break.
  25. it's a one time signing bonus. a difference of 2.7 M or whatever can easily be recuped/washed out in endorsements, even in baseball. you really think he's going to base his decision on 2.7M when he's passing up 100+M just bc he can't wait? not to mention the fact that he included all those teams in the penalty and eliminated teams that had big pools (when he didn't need to eliminate anyone) Yeah it would be weird for money to all of the sudden matter given where we are and what little we know, especially such a nominal amount in the big picture here. Also unless it was absolutely made clear to us/teams in the meeting or going in to it that money literally means nothing to this weirdo I’d find it hard to believe part of our pitch didn’t include how we could help make him millions in non-baseball related salaries in order to make up for the pittance we can give him.
