  1. Don’t know if it’s just their DL shenanigans again or if it’s actually serious? Also, is “finger inflammation” just a fancy word for blister? [tweet] [/tweet]
  2. Not that we have a great option with Zobrist out but the Cubs twitter meatballs should be happy their precious Almora is leading off vs a RHP. I’d really like to see Russell given a chance there if it’s not going to be Zobrist. I’ve liked his approach a lot this year and the underlying things he’s doing are leadoff hitterish characteristics
  3. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sunday is a double header
  4. The Cubs and weather so far this season
  5. He had shoulder "fatigue" recently that knocked him out of a few starts and since he's returned, he hasn't been as good as he was before the injury, with his velocity fluctuating. Basically, he isn't meeting the expectations of his pre-injury past and there are too many other good, currently healthy prep arms for him to compete with. Got it, thanks. I kinda like hearing there's a lot of prep arms thought of so highly and hopefully they mostly stay healthy for the next 60 days or so up to the draft so they go early and more college guys/hitters are there for us to take. Also are there any Cease or Giolito type HS guys who we know need TJS that would've been higher if not for it that could fall to us? Seems like the FO, but also the league in general, doesn't seem to overly think it is that big of a deal anymore other than the missed time. We've added Chatwood, Darvish, Morrow and Smyly all in the last year and obviously drafted Cease. I'd think it would be something we'd look at if the opportunity is there.
  6. What is the reference to “expectations and what he’s done in past” and he concerns about with Hankins? 6’5” 17 year old hitting mid 90s doesn’t seem like there’s too much concern other than just the general concerns about prep arms.
  7. Early season Corbs asking us to come watch them
  8. Why not? Maybe not for Norris, but he had a fresh bullpen with the day off yesterday. Could have thrown Bowman, Brebbia, Gregorson to get past him. Was already the bottom of the 8th and they were obviously set on Norris going 1+ innings to close it out. Fair enough. I guess I didn't think they had anyone else ready at that point. But regardless, do you think that Heyward vs a lefty is a better option than Almora vs a right? The decision really was do you prefer Heyward vs a lefty and LaStella vs a righty or Almora vs a lefty and LaStella vs a lefty
  9. He’s in the perfect spot, imo. Kind of like a 2nd clean up hitter. Let Rizzo/Willy/Schwarbs get on base in front of him.
  10. Can’t believe pepole wanted this Holland bum signed
  11. And tired in October again I'm sure Oh, most definitely. Probably best you don’t even follow this year.
  12. Happ might even have been able to hit that one out
  13. It would be nice if strike one to him wasn’t called on a ball a foot outside Sure. But he's swinging at the right pitches, hitting way more line drives and getting more hard contact, and yet has very little to show for it. It's frustrating.Yeah again another frustrating thing going on that should turn positive soon. He’s doing a lot of things to like, should only be a matter of time.
  14. He shouldn’t be facing those guys in leverage spots ideally
  15. It would be nice if strike one to him wasn’t called on a ball a foot outside
  16. I'm not really going to give him leeway because walking 8 per 9 is simply unacceptable. But he's not going to walk 8 per 9 all year. He just won't. So I remain confident in him. He's got a 4.30 FIP and a 4.60 ERA, despite walking 8 per 9 innings. He's missing plenty enough bats. He's throwing his curve more the last 2 games. He's getting a ton of weak contact and not giving up much hard contact at all. The exit velocities against him have been really low. He's keeping the ball in the park. He's getting grounders. He's not giving up line drives. Basically all the stuff that was mentioned about him -- pertaining to him being a sneaky breakout candidate after getting away from Coors -- is happening. Except... he's walking 8 per 9. Take that down to around 4 per 9 and he is going to be quite successful for us. He'll be fine, but he needs to quit horsefeathering walking so many guys. Yeah, kinda embodies the season so far. Really frustrating and annoying but underlying things are saying things aren’t going to be nearly this bad and things should get better soon enough.
  17. What about the rest of his career where he couldn't throw strikes ever? If he pitches like, or close to, the pitcher he’s been on the road he’s been his entire career I’m willing to live with it.
  18. I’m willing to give Chatwood some leeway. He’s always going to be a little wild and yes he hasn’t been good, but I’m guessing the early rain/snow outs and extra rest on top of shitty weather isn’t overly helping the command.
  19. Well you know we will get one more crack at Wainwright since Matheny will keep him out there to get the win
  20. Wainwright is pitching like a middle schooler who just learned how to throw a curveball. The velocity isn’t far off either.
