Expecting a Verlander level bump out of Hamels is a bit much and a ridiculous expectation, but didn’t Verlander have an ERA in the 4s when he was traded? He just had like 2-3 good August starts before the Astros gave him their special sauce? I’m just telling myself Hamels needs to be better than Chatwood to temper my expectations.
He’s playing the right amount there for as frustrating as Russell has been he’s still plenty valuable and the margin isn’t small on defense between the two at SS. What shouldn’t be happening is Zobrist/LaStella playing over him at 2B vs RHP while Almora plays.
I’d always rather be up in the L column. Like you said, you can’t make those up and I view the L column difference pretty much as important as actual games up/down
All this time we thought the VBs were frauds, maybe the Dodgers are bigger frauds with Muncy, Kemp, Taylor, Hernandez, Bellinger etc all actually being mostly garbage players.
I didn’t realize it until this was pointed out to me recently but Butterfield does get ridiculously far down the line and Jesse seems to think that played a role in Russell not round 2B the best because he couldn’t pick him up.
They likely are but also 6-7 is really not that bad of a “tough stretch” and obviously yes it’s a problem if it turns in to like 25-28 the rest of the way or whatever is left
I think I’ve posted before but replay was never intended for calls like that........ If your body is over the bag and you reasonably hold the base you should be safe if you beat the initial tag. If you just go slide through or like flop way off to the side that you can’t reasonably hold the bag and are tagged you can be called out if the initial tag doesn’t beat you but you get subsequently tagged
It was dumb as hell he was out but even with some shitty running around 2B Russell was basically safe. I didn’t mind him going to 3B there. Him on 2nd with no outs would’ve been tough to get in anyways
