  1. Today is really testing me ever trying to be positive about anything and just say horsefeathers it and stop following until October when I hopefully check and things work like the should and we have a playoff game scheduled. Somehow
  2. He’s like the one guy who’s BB/9 has gone down with Hickey too. Bizzaro world.
  3. Whoops, there's that pesky strawman yet again. Weird! Eh, I’m just trying to keep it in perspective instead of looking for the worst thing in everything
  4. Nice job Albert, he was due for some positive ground ball regression
  5. We have the best record in the NL. It's worked all season. Why won't it work in the playoffs? I mean maybe it will. It’s just funny watching Lester give up rockets to the worst offense in baseball and people are like “horsefeathers yes the bullpen is so good” But that’s kinda the point, if the starters suck or get in trouble we have a very good bullpen to go to if they have a short leash with the SP and they can keep us in games and it’s not revolutionary to win that way in the playoffs.
  6. If they don’t let him finish hopefully it’s Ottavino
  7. It is and has been bad but Hendricks has looked really like his old self for quite a few starts now so idk what to tell you about there but he looks encouraging, Q is solid and has been mostly solid all year and Darvish seems well on his way back, Lester was due for major regression and hopefully that get sorted out soon and he turns it back around and Hamels is doing enough interesting things outside of that stupid park in Texas to think he’s going to be good. It’s the flailing cherry picking that gets me. Use “looks” for one guy, not-terrible ERA for another, appeal to regression for a third, and the vague “interesting things” for the fourth. You’re not evaluating them, you’re looking for reasons to forgive them. Whatever, just keep doom bonnering and not enjoying the best run of Cubs baseball we’ll ever see in our lives. My point was is that all these guys who are eternally doomed have things going on that, that might not be the case and we are still getting by with sub optimal performances from them.
  8. Yeah, I'm not arguing he's been good or anything. Whatever word you want to use. I said decent. You said mediocre. We can go with that. I think he's good enough to give us 5 innings and keep us in a game in October. (And I think he can get better, since he's been better his whole career.) Mainly, he hasn't been hit as hard since around mid-May and the results (ERA) have been better. His exit velocity numbers and batted ball data looked really bad at the start of the year. Since then, it's mostly been the walks, which have stayed around all year. Not forgiving the walks, because they are bad, but he can survive with our defense if he isn't getting hit hard. It’s just crazy that what you described above is the starter we feel best about right now on a team with the best record in the NL Hendricks is who we should feel best about, imo.
  9. Bote must have been reading the board in between innings and just decided to give up
  10. Bote needs to play everyday. 2 balls over 100+ mph off the bat today

  12. We have the best record in the NL. It's worked all season. Why won't it work in the playoffs? I'm not saying this is the case, but what if we were playing above our heads and now over the next few months there is a regression and then come the playoffs we are actually more like the fourth best team? I assume this isn't the case. But just wondering. We aren’t playing over our heads. Our win% right now pretty much matches where the projections have us
  13. Why do you goobers act like "we'll just bullpen it" is some trump card lmao. If the starter gives up 5 runs in three innings, it's not gonna make much of a difference how good our bullpen might be. It does repeatedly crack me up how we have people talking here like the problem with the Cubs' starters has been that they melt down 4-5 innings into their starts. The starting rotation is legit horsefeathering terrible, and they act like it's going to just somehow work itself out in less than 2 months. Hendricks is back to his normal self, Q is mostly fine and Yu is going to be back. So yeah they should be mostly fine and worked out.
  14. Why do you goobers act like "we'll just bullpen it" is some trump card lmao. If the starter gives up 5 runs in three innings, it's not gonna make much of a difference how good our bullpen might be. Because it is a trump card and the starters will be pulled early the first sign of trouble to not get to 5 run in 3 innings start. Plus some of us on here have to counteract your consistent whining, doom bonnering and ninniness
  15. Thursday’s game is still far more dumb and annoying to me than this game today
  16. We’re gonna bullpen the horsefeathers out of games in the playoffs. Starters will be on short leashes.
  17. Javy himself has been worth .1 less fWAR (4 vs 4.1) than their entire offense combined
  18. Good thing we had a good leadoff hitter in front of Javy today
  19. They will be rested sitting on their couches watching because we are still winning this stupid division I wanted your prediction of where we'd be sitting after Sunday to be true. At least if your second one here turns out to be right, it's all good. Stupid Wade Davis does his job Friday and we’d be all so close to that sweet, sweet dream
  20. He’s had moments/stretches like this, but maybe with the age he just sucks now but I bet he figures it out to at least be a 3.75-4.25 era guy for a good final stretch here Why? His stuff is still pretty close to where it’s been the last 2 years here. His command (like with everyone here) sucks and needs to get better. But like I said he’s had awful stretches like this before, I think he’ll figure it out enough to be a ~4 era guy. I don’t think he’s toast/absolutely done.
