  1. I’ll put this here too I guess
  2. Career 1.170 OPS against the Cubs, which is his best against any NL team. Only one higher is the Angels (1.247 OPS). So he's due for regression against us!

  4. Yep, and then Cubs fans pretending it's not bad news. At least the Cardinals still aren’t better than us, even after this and assuming they only have some moves on the margins left this offseason (bullpen arm or 2, rotation depth FA move maybe and maybe a Martinez/Gyorko trade and back end bench/C FA addition). And at least they either only have Goldschmidt for 1 year or have to give a 32/33 year old 1B a monster deal. But it is annoying seeing these teams in the division continue to acquire good talent for 60 cents on the dollar
  5. Jose Martinez is the most uncomfortable looking first baseman I've ever seen. Oh he’s horsefeathering awful there and should be a DH somewhere. Goldschmidt definitely gives them a defensive bump at 1B but the defensive gain on him over Martinez might be negated by moving Carpenter to 3B over Gyorko/FA though. The offensive upgrade on Goldschmidt vs Martinez could be relatively nominal, was my main point.
  6. FWIW Goldschmidt is only project by steamer to be .010 points better by wOBA and 10 points better than what José Martinez gave the Cardinals last year and I’m assuming that Martinez is going to be out now.
  7. Hopefully the offseason salsa regimen improves his shoulder strength because his arm at 3B doesn’t play.
  8. It does. Weaver’s ~10 starts in 2017 seemed to trick everyone that he’s actually good and not just a back of the rotation, cheap version of Mike Leake starter.
  9. The Cardinals? I agree. Would assume they’re moving on from Jose Martinez and Goldschmidt replaces him. Production wise that’s not a huge bump to making them better from last year. This also forces Carpenter and his middle school arm to 3B.

  11. This is more hitter focus than defense focused for us, but yeah overall it seems we'd benefit the most if shifts were banned. Since our defense already rates out pretty well without doing it much at all and some of our hitters are hurt the most by it and we have a team in the division (VBs) who use it a ton and are damn good at it.
  12. So managers can't position players where he wants them? I think batters ought to learn how to hit to the opposite field or lay down a bunt to the opposite side. How’s it going, Chili? Congrats on the NY job.
  13. I’m all for this mostly because it would horsefeathers with the Brewers the most [tweet] [/tweet]
  14. I’d be okay with that move for that money. It would be nice to be able to add him and Robertson
  15. I wouldn’t possibly go public on twitter with what I just laid out (and is definitely true) in fear of that if it got found out too soon it could put signing Bryce in jeopardy. I’ve probably already said too much on here.
  16. I just realized that Passan and/or 670 article said the White Sox met with Bryce in Vegas in November and their stupid video board thing that got leaked was just something they filmed to bring with them for it (it wasn’t part of an in person pitch in Chicago).... but there were rumors/reports he was in Chicago that weekend to presumably meet with the WS because of that picture leaking going in to the weekend (which isn’t when they met we now know) and there was also a report he was at a Blackhawks game that weekend and Heyward was also there via his IG (though not pictured with Bryce)....... what if he was actually in town to meet with us that weekend and we’ve been laying in the weeds this whole time (since we now know he wasn’t in town to meet with the WS that weekend but likely was in town)? This would have been right on the heels of the Cubs are broke MF’ers reports and would jive with a potential Theo/FO disinformation campaign to throw teams off our scent to then go meet with Harper that weekend.
  17. Comforto I get and maybe Rosario but Nimmo should be a no brainer to include for Realmuto. I also don’t get why the Marlins want established major league guys either, other than they’re horsefeathering idiots
  18. Jon Gray Or Sonny Gray? Sonny is my guess for them.
  19. I didn’t take it to be positive or negative (Mooney admits there’s mixed signals about us being in or not and if we have financial constraints). The article basically is just rehashing things that have been out there but not confirmed for the last month. I also think Mooney saying the Smyly move and not re-signing Chavez is a for sure sign we are strapped for money is a bit of a leap as well. Not giving a 36 year old RP a 2 year deal and finding a way to dump a guy coming back from TJ with no clear role and to minimize Hamels cost (in a vacuum) doesn’t necessarily mean we are poor to me.
  20. Not really anything ground breaking or new other than kinda admitting nobody really has any idea what the hell Theo is up to
  21. The only reason I believe he might not be a complete fraud (he likely is) is along the lines of what David pointed out. The only people who have been able to get info about what we are going to do or about to do are these obscure internet personalities/random people on the street since Theo's been here. Not a single one of the beat writers or national guys ever seems to totally know what's going on under Theo either because they don't want to leak things in preliminary stages that might end up not happening or get shut off by sources or they just have no clue and make things up/Theo and the FO leaks false info to them and they're idiots (Jesse, Loxas reviving his career etc. of the world falling in the latter category).
  22. Well yeah, that’s kinda my point. If they think the young core is a major selling point they aren’t getting him. They’re going to have to probably give him the most money (likely significantly more than anyone else). If Bryant is as much of a plus for the Cubs' chances of getting Harper as we assume he is, then the Sox playing in the same metro has to count for something, right? If the wives are that close to each other I could see that being something that counts to at least be in the same city but different teams. But for KB and Bryce even if they’re in the same city but on different teams I doubt KB and Bryce would get a ton of chances to get together in season with different team schedules. They’d maybe see each other nominally more than when he was with the Nats and they don’t live in Chicago in the offseason anyways.
