    Martinez officially starting the year on the IL and is being shut down, won’t throw at all the rest of spring.

    It’s only ~30 ABs but this Adames guy is having a nice spring. He’s no more than AAA MIF roster filler but he seems better than Mike Freeman at least.

    He was bad in August and playoffs but he was good in Sept/October. There are some red flags overall though, BB and HR spiked a bit, velo and stuff remained the same. I don’t want him if he’s still looking for a Jansen/Chapman deal, I’d only want him if we can work something out where it’s only 2-3 years guaranteed with options on both sides to make it shorter (player options) or longer (team/mutual options).

    65th in reliever FIP (if he would have qualified), 86th, threw 26 innings total last year, already hurt, 4.73 projected FIP, 91st in reliever FIP (if he would have qualified) I think he’s done more or less of ever being effective in any role. His shoulder is shot.

    I think they said he’s roughly 1-2 weeks behind most guys/where he should be in a normal ST. I believe he’s playing catch and long toss but has yet to throw off a mound. They are, understandably, not pushing anything and he’s probably out for most of April.

    I mean, unless he’s not making the OD roster why not give him the token star? They’re in an admitted rebuild.

    Going off play by play makes Monty’s line seem better than it looks. GB hit to 3B and 2 errors and a Dong but lots of stuff on the ground. Almora was replaced in the 4th while no other starters have been pulled yet.....

    I hope everyone is sitting down when they read this and is braced for the shock, but Almora is leading off vs a RHP and grounded out to the left side in his first AB.

    I don’t think we needed an injury to happen for that to be the plan. He was used at a negligent level last year and I don’t see that changing much this year. Seriously, just go sign Kimbrel to the swell opt deal thing. 2/~$45 guaranteed, he can opt out after this year (structure it like $22 mil this year, $23 next year). Then we get another 2/$~35-45 option on him after the 2nd year or else he can be a FA again and there’s like a $5 mil buyout if we don’t exercise the option.

    Kintzler and Duensing and dangerously high in the pecking order for leverage spots the first month +/-. The margin is so tight for the division those assholes may end up costing us the division by May. Just go sign Kimbrel you fools.

    Not overly surprising, but that means Q will be the 4/5 starter in the rotation the first time through. Wouldn’t be surprised if Darvish/Hamels are 2/3 in some order to get a start in Texas as a bit of a reunion thing. Seems like something Joe would do.

    I’m just going to assume this is the Astros secret potion and every one of their pitchers is taking it.

    They’re in the gray area/Manfred shooting from the hip with these rules that are under the guise for “pace of play” but really being done to help offense and aesthetics. Imo.
