  1. 97-98 on the FB, multiple 98s. A few good breaking balls. Very solid, 1K and 2 weak fly balls.
  2. I looked at his statcast numbers the other day and one thing he definitely has going for him is he crushes breaking balls at 95 AEV. If he cuts the whiffs down on those and offspeed he could be quite a hitter.Yeah for sure, he has a real solid hit too. But I think the Ks are a major problem that could hold him back when everything normalizes and we have a pretty solid sample between AAA/MLB now that he’s gonna K a decent amount.
  3. Yeah and also pretty bad footwork by Rizzo at 1B there (don’t know if they would’ve had him regardless) but bad footwork nonetheless.
  4. Hiura is a guy who intrigues me because I think the hit tool is real, but he's doing some things that make me wonder if he'll ever be that valuable. First his defense is awful and that's the main thing I see holding him back, but he's also K'ing at a 31% clip in MLB after being in the high 20s in AAA, he doesn't walk a ton (7% rate). He's currently slashing .307/.377/576 with a .416 BABIP. Last year only 4 qualified players ran K rates of 31% or more and their BABIPs were .313, .344, .249 and .237 and all 4 walked more than him, if you think he improves the K rate by ~5% to 26% only 12 players ran a 26% or higher K rate last year and the highest BABIP of all 12 guys was .351 and 9 of those 12 players had BB rates of 9% or greater and 6 were 10% or greater. I just wonder how good of a hitter he can be with that K rate and his BABIP coming down anywhere from .05-.1, he does hit a lot of line drives and fly balls and uses the whole field and hits the ball hard so he should be able to run a BABIP in the .320-340 or so range but even at that with the not special walks he really just seems more like a guy vs a GUY. Just looking at some of this he seems like he settles in more as a .255-.270/.320-330/.440-470 slash line guy. Which is fine but isn’t all that valuable when taking in the whole picture with defense.
  5. 60 PAs in the second half with a .286/.417/.408 line. Granted, a lot of that is propped up by a .394 BABIP, as Sofa mentioned, but a 15% walk rate is pretty solid. With us carrying two catchers, we basically just sent down our top bat off the bench to carry 9 relievers and essentially play with a 2 man bench. I hear ya but he’s still looked bad and fucked up a ton in the field. I do wonder if maybe this is just a move for tomorrow and indicative of them not being sure of Hamels, then do another move Wednesday.
  6. One has to wonder if a better catcher navigates that game to finishing with no hits.
  7. Because he’s been really horsefeathering bad for a while, can’t hit FBs above his waist and has been bricking a ton of balls in the field (for a good fielder). Worth letting him hit a re-set in Iowa for 2 weeks here before September. I thought he should’ve been down a while ago to get a break and figure things out because I think there’s still talent there.
  8. Drop Vlad Jr Add Pete Alonso
  9. It’s positive since the first opening trip too, just a really weird record to have.
  10. Kimbrel activated and Underwood sent down, Zagunis is up too. Don’t know who he’s replacing or if they get 26 for this game.
  11. Hurdle when he has to go hang out with these little shits tomorrow and show them how they “use to play.”
  12. It’s still nice to pull out a game like that when one function of the team doesn’t perform great. Baseball is still gonna baseball from time to time of facing horsefeathers pitching and having horsefeathers results. I hear you but the Cubs struggling offensively on the road is not exactly a blip I don’t think But at the same time it’s not really a thing. They aren’t bad “because they’re on the road.” Javy is the only guy with crazy splits. It would be interesting to see how many Almora and Descalso games were home vs road. They may be dragging the overall numbers down.
  13. Arrieta shut down for the year and having the bone chip/spur surgery and Sale is making the vaunted Dr. James Andrews visit with an elbow issue.

  15. Yeah we are winning the division still Hard to find confidence we can beat the braves or dodgers even understanding the baseball crapshoot thing I think vs the Braves, assuming relative health, it’s like a 47-53, 45-55 thing in the Braves favor. The Dodgers we will need some breaks.
  16. Think it was fine trying to let Chatwood finish and the right move to go to Wick and having him ready first sign of trouble.
