  1. I have fantastic seats to this game and am sitting 2 blocks from wrigley AND IT WON'T STOP RAINING
  2. Told ya. Dempster knew what he was doing the whole time. McCarver: Nothing funny about this [re: the Cardinals losing] - way to show your allegience. I wasn't in front of the TV when the ball was hit so I just heard his call of the play. Now here's the thing: when it happened I was thinking cubs announcers. So McCarver said "line drive..." and since I was thinking cubs announcers and he said it EXACTLY like chip would have said it if it had been a game winning hit for the opponents, I was pretty upset. then he finished the call and I was ecstatic. Moral of the story: he's a blatant cards fan and sucks
  3. In the pre-game the day of nomar's injury, dusty told santo that he wanted nomar to go deeper into the count. I was a bit surprised
  4. If I thought pujols was on the decline, I'd have voted for Lee this season. But pujols is good and has been good and will be good in the future. Can't vote for lee over baseball's best hitter
  5. Huh? when are sports competitions ever a fair competition for most of the world? Most countries don't win a gold metal in any given olympics. Indonesia, for example (the 4th most populous nation on earth btw) is still celebrating their badminton 2nd place showing from the 80s... especially ironic because it was chinese players who got the metals (and, like all asians, Indonesian Malays are huge racists and hate teh chinese)
  6. And using Leicester to sac bunt Corey to 2nd, instead of stealing. I guess Dusty was scared of Mike Piazza's cannon of an arm. (hairston. kinda hard for the pitcher to bat with the leadoff man on base) Oops, I meant Hairston, not Corey. Regardless, if Leicester is not pitching in the next inning you have to PH for him and have Hairston attempt a steal while Piazza is catching. Yep. Let's see... If corey gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. If Neifi gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. If Lee gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. If Hairston gets on first and 2b is open (and piazza is catching) he should be stealing every pitch. Did I miss anyone?

  8. One of the players on the bullets has an honest to god occiptal bun, the single biggest difference in skull shape between modern humans and neandertals.
  9. That's the spirit! I'd like to point out now that this was my attempt at a jinx on the bullets. It came up a bit short.
  10. Bulls are going to be destroyed in the next game :( No way they come back from a loss like that on the road, can't be done
  11. DOn't know how you missed cruz
  12. Can anyone tell me where that last Gordon foul came from? I mean, I don't even know who they thought he hit
  13. You know the refs are scary-bad when the announcers don't have a clue what the refs are calling when they blow the whistle. "And he steps out of bounds. I mean he traveled. Oh, they're calling a foul." ](*,) Good job coming back again.
  14. No one's posted here yet? When you essentially PH blanco for Dubois, that has to be recognized universally as stupid or malevolent
  15. Does anyone else find it utterly hysterical that dusty said hairston would play 2nd every day apparently because dusty planned to play neifi at some other positiion every game?
  16. and amazingily enough the Cubs have scored 7 runs by the 3rd inning. Lets try to make sure that the moves are poor before we discount them Hindsight is 20-20. Benching A-Ram, Barrett, and Nomar for Prior's first start is a really bad way to build his confidence, in my opinion. Waiting to see how it turned out isn't exactly fair, is it? This is like when Dusty would do something stupid in 2003, have it work out, and Chip Caray would say, "Dusty pushes the right button again!" Those drinking birds can push buttons, too. Yet we use hindsight all throughout this thread to take issue with Dusty's decisions. totally wrong. Dusty bashers complain about what dusty is doing beforehand either here or in gamethread/flashchat. dusty supporters wait until neifi gets a hit to say anything here. BINGO. Give me a break. You guys rip just about everything he does and then whenever it turns out badly for him you make a big deal about how right you were and how stupid he is. However, whenever it turns out to be a good move you say either he was just lucky or have no comment. It doesn't even make for good conversation, because there is obviously an axe to grind that will not allow the Dusty bashers to engage in any give and take. It is either you agree that Dusty is an idiot or then obviously you don't know anything about baseball and statistics. I know! Frosty and Careless are so way off its hilarious. Have they been visiting baseball discussions? To me, game thread and flash chats aren't places with solid baseball info. It's the nature of the mediums to be over-emotional and stupid. [/b] I'm confused, these mediums are "over-emotional and stupid" but consistently point out mistakes that dusty is making in a timely manner, one that indicates these same mistakes would not be made by a competent manager? then dusty must be PATHETIC
  17. the problem that I have with this (and, I suspect, most other people around here) is that you seem to come from the perspective of "Dusty is doing this so it must be right... so how can it be justified". that's not critical thinking, that's religion.
  18. Hey, I've suggested that we record every move dusty makes so we can judge his entire body of work and compare it to the moves that all the other managers we play make. Short of that, there's no truely fair way we can judge him. And even using that method, we're still going to be comparing him to just the group of MLB managers who are not (no offense intended) the brightest group out there. They get their jobs because of their connections and reputations which can be built up by working with a winning program. To use commie china as an example, chinese leaders will allocate bank loans to provinces/counties under the control of their followers thereby making their followers' records look better. they get them good reputations and good jobs with large payrolls. Virtue compared to the rest of the population has VERY little to do with it
  19. totally wrong. Dusty bashers complain about what dusty is doing beforehand either here or in gamethread/flashchat. dusty supporters wait until neifi gets a hit to say anything here. Alas, I would disagree. This thread BEGAN AFTER the pinch hitting decisions of Macias & Perez in Arizona. Going back to the first thre pages or so, I even explained my view of the purposes of these moves in light of the gametime decision. I even spoke about how we all have to remember that these decisions are made during the game and we are sitting here without pressure and can look after the fact and identify what was bad because it didn't work. In fact the majority of this thread speaks about the Why this and the Why not that as opposed to I understand this but how come they didn't do that? Slight difference sure, but to say that this thread uses hindsight by the pro-dusty people only is laughable. that's because people, like I said in the above post, were complaining about it when they saw macias announced in the gamethread/flashchat. they're not going to immediately rush over here to start a thread bashing dusty. after the game they are done with the gamethread/flashchat. so what do they do? they start this thread. Go ahead, look at the gamethread for the first games and compare the first freakout about macias and neifi PHing to the start of this thread. Or to the actual results of their ABs. People were pointing out that dusty was being freaking stupid before they took a swing, while they were swinging, and continued here after the game ended

  21. Welllll what about the people who signed/played him?
  22. He was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice. It's hard to rail on him for making an out when he was ordered to sacrifice. I too would expect Hairston to outdo a 333 OBP throughout the year, but Eaton was on today, I'm ecstatic that Neifi managed a hit. There's no excuse for Macias over Dubois. But why extrapolate one game into 162? There's so many more variables to consider in 1 real game as opposed to 161 imaginary ones, and Dusty pulled the right string with Perez over Hairston. Despite the nearly 2 pages of anti-Perez posts Perez was one of our more successful hitters today. That's just the facts...Those who hated on Perez for this game got shown up. Oh yeah, I forgot cuz Dusty didn't do it, I bet Hairston would have gone 4 for 4 with 4 grand slams. seriously, how the heck do you know that? How do you know that Hairston wouldn't have gone 4-5 and inspired the other cubs hitters/screwed with eaton? A 1-3 day isn't a sign that he pulled the right string, merely that he didn't do something that turned out to work badly
  23. I've been suggesting this (actually, a football offensive/defensive coordinator system) since at least early last year. edit: to be clear, dusty=head coach, pitching coach=defensive coordinator, hitting coach=offensive. And dusty isn't the one making substitutions
  24. Stooge (and I don't know why) implies being a tool or pawn of another... And wow, I would hate dusty if it turned out he was a stooge instead of a clueless shmuck
