  1. Very cheap fully refundable flights to/from KC for both what would be the WC Game and Game 4 of the NLDS. Also, there are actual available rooms on my IHG rewards downtown for those nights. That is rare. Trying to decide what to book.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/ps.jsp
  3. Cleveland's lost 18.8 games on the Royals in 3rd order pace. They are 16.5 back.
  4. Look at third order winning percentage rather than pythag and we've out performed by a good amount less, last I checked. NL 3rd-Order Standings Dodgers .608 - Cardinals .575 3.9 GB Cubs .551 6.7 GB Giants .550 6.8 GB Pirates .543 7.7 GB Mets .524 9.9 GB Nationals .516 10.9 GB If you don't like the adjustment for opponents, 2nd order is actually very similar.
  5. "show us what the pitching version of them hitting .320 WRISP is" said no one Hahahaha.
  6. Assuming the Dodgers played at least as well as we did also, I wouldn't. It would mean we were only 1.5 games up on the playoffs instead of 3.5. I know we'd be only 3.5 back of St. Louis so we'd be more likely to win the division but would be less likely to make the playoffs. Just get in. The division would be a bonus. Just getting in is most important to me, too. I would like to see what the playoff odds would be in that case though. We would be right in the middle of a group of 5 teams where 4 are going to make the playoffs. I would think we would still be 80%+ and our chances of playing in the NLDS would probably be greater than 50% in that scenario. Right now they are not.
  7. Diamondbacks (Hellickson, 4.73) @ Pirates (Cole, 2.48) Giants (Heston, 3.38) @ Cardinals (Wacha, 2.93) Cardinals - Pirates 5.0 Cubs 7.5 Pirates +2.5 Cubs - (Dodgers) 1.0 Giants 3.5 (Mets) 5.0 Nationals 9.5 If the Cubs go .500 the rest of the way they will finish with 90 wins. The Nationals would have to win at a 115-win pace the rest of the way and the Mets at a 95-win pace for them both to catch us. I was foolish to think we wanted the Giants to win 3 or 4 against the Nationals. Oh well, it's not like it matters what we want. Today starts a 13-game stretch for the Giants against the Cardinals, Pirates, Cubs and Cardinals again. If the Cubs can continue winning series they will likely gain ground in the division or bury the Giants. Big two weeks coming up here. Hypothetical: If a genie came to you and said you could choose to gain 4 games on both the Cardinals and Pirates over the next two weeks but that also meant you'd have to lose 4 games to the Giants would you do it? (Basically, Giants go on a tear and the Cubs play well but get swept by the Giants while the Cardinals and Pirates sucks).
  8. I legitimately can't decide whether umpires have always been this inconsistent and we are just more aware of it now due the amount of information (Pitch Trax, etc.) that is available to us. Or are umpires truly calling games more inconsistently now than they have in the past? I made a comment at the beginning of the season that umpiring was really good last season. I think many agreed.
  9. I'm ok with getting no-hit again and even Woody losing his record of it means we go on another 16-3 run starting Tuesday.
  10. It's fine but the constant complaining every time a team were competing against scores a run and it's only mid-August is a bit strange And when the run is scored in like the top of the first. Point taken
  11. It's like some people don't realize it's ok to still be really happy with the Cubs while also lamenting that it sucks to be stuck in the most difficult division in baseball by a wide margin.
  12. I figured I was pretty much 0-2 on other game thread starts since everybody was winning. I'm the anti-Butters.
  13. Cubs are 63-39 against teams not named the Cardinals. That's a 100-win pace. Petition to move to the NL East or remove divisions entirely.
  14. Cubs 10-0. Pirates 8-2. Also, 10-2. Cardinals 7-3. Also, 9-3. Giants 6-4. Also, 13-5 and 19-6.
  15. I know the Cardinals, Cubs and Pirates have 2 losses (both by the Cardinals) in non head-to-head games since August 2.
  16. Come on Mets. I'm tired of treading water while winning every night.
  17. Pirates (Morton, 4.48) @ Mets (Niese, 3.46) Marlins (Hand, 4.29) @ Cardinals (Lackey, 2.91) Reds (Holmberg, 3.06) @ Dodgers (Anderson, 3.43) Nationals (Gonzalez, 3.50) @ Giants (Peavy, 3.75) Preller's Padres (Cashner, 4.09) @ Rockies (Gray, 2.70) Cardinals - Pirates 6 Cubs 7.5 Pirates +1.5 Cubs - (Dodgers) 2 (Mets) 4 Giants 4.5 Nationals 8.5 ..... Padres 12 Another day where the only NL contenders that lose are teams playing other NL contenders. It's time for the Nationals to pull their weight and actually beat some of these contenders they are playing. Go Mets, Marlins, Reds and Nationals! Playoff Odds 89.3% - Fangraphs 90.3% - Baseball Prospectus #wearesofreakinggood
  18. You convinced me. Keep hitting bombs Harper.
  19. How come on the Cubs MLB.tv feed during commercials I am seeing White Sox highlights from this season every inning?
  20. Just wear these unis every road game. Add the name on the back.
