  1. Yeah but GB's D is significantly worse than the Bears' D. It isn't near as good but it hasn't been bad this year... http://footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef Didn't say they were equal, but the 49ers put the Packers (a good defensive team) through the meat-grinder as well. The 49ers game plan will have to change if they meet either team in the postseason because their advantage over both defenses is not physical but prep work. The next time around both teams would be ready for what the 49ers brought the first time. i.e. The 2007-08 Giants were 0-4 (3 of those games at home) against DAL, GB and NE. Of course, they beat TB, DAL and GB all on the road and NE at a neutral site.
  2. Just wanted to point out that the 49ers did the same thing to the Packers defense that they did last night. Packers couldn't stop the run or the pass. I wouldn't be freaking out yet if I were a Bears fan.
  3. I don't think they offer this anymore unless it's grandfathered in. Actually, they do and have expanded it to more seating locations this season.
  4. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2012/11/fa-face-with-the-tv-booty/ I want to know what the context of the conversation was that lead him to discuss the FA market in 2015.
  5. Just like we don't know about the team's finances and how they're impacting Theo/Jed's approach on the rebuild we do not know what happened tonight. To definitively jump on one side or the other is just silly. Show frustration that you thought we got a steal and it didn't happen? Sure. But throw blame at the front office without knowing everything is not cool.
  6. Theo's trying to get Trumbo for Vitters too.
  7. In my question to Theo yesterday I mentioned Hendry handing out no-trade clauses like candy. He was probably thinking, "Yeah. Hope it doesn't bite me tomorrow."
  8. Not sure where this is coming from. It was apparent that Theo and Jed are talking about 26-27 year old player coming up from the system, not free agency. They may not have been apparent in the comments.
  9. I'm not picking a "side" because I think it's really hard to judge what they are doing without knowing what the big picture looks like financially.
  10. I don't think you HAVE to throw away three seasons to build a pipeline to supplement a contending team. But, if Ricketts is very limited on his spending for baseball ops in the short term as compared to what it will be in the long term I think it makes perfect sense. Especially if the Cubs will benefit financially in the long term by being frugal on the baseball ops in the short term. I'm still excited about the notion of having the continuous pipeline and being able to give players contracts similar to what Starlin Castro signed with the Cubs and Salvador Perez signed with the Royals. Sure, some of them will blow up in your face, but the money saved on the successful ones will hopefully more than offset those blow ups. Then, you supplement your pipeline with free agents when necessary. This is why if given a follow-up opportunity I would ask about long-term payroll plans.
  11. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2012/11/cubsnews11212.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Chicagocubsonlinecom+%28ChicagoCubsOnline.com%29 Notes from the noon and evening session. I was on the evening session.
  12. You guys are all very welcome. Next year I will try to give a sooner heads-up so NSBB can have chances to structure a really good question. I know the one I asked has been on the forefront of my mind for awhile.
  13. Another subtle hint during his answer to my question that I forgot to include: Theo said he didn't want to put a timeline on things, but that it looks like I have a pretty good idea of what they want to do. He never really addressed my point that the Cubs are in a large market and should be able to compete and develop at the same time. I really wish I could ask him a follow-up question today about why they feel they need to approach it this way. I would ask him if he sees the Cubs having a top five payroll once they enter their "sustained success" window. I'd also like to ask if ballpark improvements, debt reduction, etc. are affecting how he would go about the rebuild. In other words, is he rebuilding this way because they are short on funds in the short-term, or is he rebuilding this way because he feels it's the best way to do it and would rather save the money he's not spending now?
  14. Forgot to mention and it's not in the transcript. Jed specifically mentioned a wave of talent coming in that was full of "26 or 27 year olds".
  15. I really feel like all of the answers pointed to 2015 as the first contending year. He said he wants to have the pitching ready in the farm system before we try to compete. I think he really hates the idea of trading prospect at the deadline the first year we contend. He wants to go into the first contending season knowing we're going to contend.
  16. They are saying "The Cubs Way" will develop players that can deal with difficult situations before they make it to the majors so they will know how to handle them once they get there. The call is now over.
  17. Sveum may have a "hitting in certain situations" tournament as opposed to a bunting tournament this spring.
  18. Working on making the analytics department better than the Red Sox. It's not there yet. The ideas are still in their mind, but it took them years to get it where it was and now they have to redevelop it back to where it was. Question about "clutch." There is a psychological element to being clutch, but it's hard to quantify because "clutch" spots are usually a small sample size. They find "clutch" hitters are "well-rounded" and can hit multiple types of pitchers because the opposing manager doesn't have a pitcher that can go to the obvious hole in the batters swing/approach to get him out.
  19. Answering renovations now. Make experience better than it is now. Can't sacrifice history or anything that reminds us the park has been here for 100 years. Talking about Fenway renovations and fans really like it. Must always add features that look like it fits the park. Must improve facilities for players. Renovate the park the "right way" to add revenue that will be dumped directly into the team on the field.
  20. Matt Garza in long term plans? Biggest focus getting him healthy. Can't answer until he gets healthy. Medical staff is optimistic he will be a big part of the 2013 Cubs.
  21. He doesn't have one? Seems odd for a guy who was looked at as a starter outside of his durability concerns... Apparently he has one, but it sucks.
  22. OK. I'll think I'll ask it like this. Dang. Nevermind. Just said I can't ask another question.
  23. SCARY: Just said the payrolls before he got there were "artificially high". Seemed to be an excuse for not having high payrolls in the future. Although, the rest of his answer makes me think he just meant we're still paying for past seasons for the next two years. Also said that the they are still paying draft bonuses from two years ago? This seems odd to me. Theo said they are going to get away from back-loaded deals.
