  1. Call me crazy but I'd rather see Fox at 2B with Fontenot at SS. Then seeing Miles/Fontenot up the middle. Either way the defense would be awful, and I'd rather see Fox in there being terrible then Miles.
  2. So just flipped the game on. I know this has probably been discussed before but what kind of stuff does Gorz have? I know he was failry highly touted at one point wasnt he?
  3. I dont know if there is anybody in baseball I would be more excited to add then Felix Hernandez. Maybe Pujols or Hanley Ramirez and well thats about it.
  4. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200306260.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200309160.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200409300.shtml Find those games. Masterpieces. I was just glancing through game logs, and in the 2003 season, Mark Prior gave up more than three earned runs four times. Four, in thirty starts. I will never forget his 2003, which barring some sort of miracle will always be the best season I will ever see a Cubs pitcher have. 2.43 ERA. A K/9 ratio of 10.4 and a K:BB ratio of almost 5:1. WHIP of 1.10. 178 ERA+. 18 wins. Ridiculous. To think he had that season at age 22 IIRC? Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Everytime I think I finally forgot about Prior someone posts a stat like that and it pops in my mind that he was only 22!!!!!!!!!! It just makes my stomach turn to think how good he could have been...
  5. Wouldnt it make alot more sense to move Soriano back to 2B and Fox to LF. As bad as Soriano was at 2B I would probably say he would be better then Fox.
  6. Couldnt we have easily have matched this deal?
  7. Yea but whos going to score runs for them? I know Danks and Floyd are solid but Im rather unimpressed with them. I think the Padres of 2, 3 years ago had a better rotation with Peavy and that didnt get them far.
  8. Very few GM's in the MLB could have built a winner in Pittsburgh. They sell off their players right away.
  9. If you know it's coming, you just cheat and start your swing early. And if you get much of the bat on it, you have a decent shot at getting a hit. You can't cheat on a sweeping slider or hammer curveball. I played against guys in HS who could bring it at 90+, but they usually had no other pitches. I could hit them (at least make solid contact). Hell, at that velo you don't have to take a full swing - just choke up a bit and try your best to "catch" the ball with the barrel of the bat. I was lost against anything with decent movement or contrasting speeds. If the fastball has good (just about any) movement, then yeah, that's a different story. EDIT: of course, this is assuming you have a respectable level of hand/eye coordination. I've played against kids who are in the pro's now. Faced a few kids who throw low 90s. Theres a huge difference between 90 and 80 mph. Now think of the difference it is from 90 to 100 mph. Maybe one or two or a few people on this forum played minor league ball or college ball might be able to get a hit off that. Besides for that the rest of this message board has about 0 shot. I had some small college looks, played on a very good high school team that won state. I doubt theres any chance i'd catch up to 100 mph fastball.
  10. Although that was a pretty crappy deal but Hendry, his worst IMO. I dont think Nolasco really haunts us. So one poster says he doesnt want to see us unload the farm again and the best player we have unloaded since Dontrelle is Ricky Nolasco? I dont know about you but I think this is just more evidence that I would unload the farm for Halladay, Haren type player.
  11. Just a question but how many teams product superstars for years on years? I give you Yankees, Boston, and Dodgers but off the top of my head thats got to be it? No, that's not it. There are many more teams that consistently produce major league talent year after year. Tampa has a great track record at this point, and they aren't close to being done. Even with all the talent they have produced already, they are still miles ahead of the Cubs in talent still in the minors. The Cubs biggest issue has been the constant change in philosophy and/or complete ignorance in what is needed to produce major league talent. Hendry still needs to be fired yesterday. He needed to be fired yesterday a few years ago. Tampa also had top pick after top pick after top pick in every draft. Its also took now 10 years for them to finally accumulate this talent into a playoff team.
  12. I still dont think you realize the bat speed you need to get around on a 100mph fastball. I supposed if you know the exact location the pitch is going to be you can swing while the pitcher is about to release and then maybe you could hit a 100 mph fastball. If your told the location though and you still try and time it out of the pitchers hand I doubt any of you catch up to it.
  13. He's not a very good hitter with us. For whatever reason, he sucks here. It's late July and he's shown few signs of life all year long. We'd be trading him so we wouldn't have to pay $10million/year for little return on the investment. Milton Bradley as a Cub is a disaster. Unloading his contract is something that should be considered. I know alot of people hate Bradley here but I dont think just cause he struggled his first 3 months at Wrigley that hes never going to turn it around. He's shown signs of life lately. Plus guys like Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, Moises Alou, and many more have struggled there first couple months to first full season at Wrigley for whatever reason. It can be hard for people to adjust to playing at Wrigley.
  14. I'm sick of "emptying the farm." LOL! When was the last time we emptied the farm? Also whose the last prospect we traded that has actually came back to haunt us. Maybe 2 years of Dontrelle? On the other hand I can name a bunch of guys who we held on to, that if we traded while their prospect status was high we could have got a ton for. Somebody mentioned in the spring there was a time that a deal centered around Felix Pie, Rich Hill, and Ryan Harvey could have landed you a very good major league baseball player. Then we ended up pretty much giving away all of those players. As much as I feel like this time around the Cubs prospects will come through and live up to the hype I would not feel to sad at all to see Vitters, Castro, and Cashner in a deal that landed me a Hanley Ramirez, Dan Haren, Roy Halladay type player. Now if its Vitters for Freddy Sanchez thats a another story.
  15. Mclouth might have been slightly better his last 4 years with the Pirates but the biggest difference which had me so intrigued at the time was that Aramis was only 23 years old.
  16. Im pretty sure that 99% of all message boards on the internet could not hit a straight as an arrow 100 mph fastbal even if you were told the exact location the pitch was going to be thrown. People just dont realize how quick a bat you have to have to catch up to 100 mph.
  17. It was a lot of people in a lot of places. Tampa (who you'd have to say has done a hell of a job with its picks this decade) had their selection narrowed to Harvey and Young for that pick. They had each in for extensive workouts and the decision supposedly went down to the wire. touche
  18. I like the one where there info sheet said Jerry Azumah was a former probowler and they assumed it meant professional bowling.
  19. Heres a very young Ichiro meeting Michael Jordan during the dynasty years. I love how he's in such utter shock like any true fan would be as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTNcAemuc2A&feature=related
  20. I also saw our friend Eric Patterson playing CF late in the game. Interesting, I missed that. Was Corey there?
  21. My family and my fellow Cub fans think im nuts, but I realy like Milton Bradley and think he's going to turn it around this year.
  22. Could he be the crappy glove version of Mark Derosa, fill in at RF, LF, 3B, 1B, and get a good chunk of playing time? Granted its much better if the person has a good glove at all those positions but at least he could spell those players and provide a great bat in the lineup.
  23. What are the odds that somebody in the Cubs front office made a call to that manager today before the game? I'd say 90%...
  24. The way the Cubs have rundown their Gatorade machines this year, teams know the Cubs are desperate to find a replacement. I doubt Miles could return us this in a trade when everybody knows the teams hand is forced.
