  1. Gomez is a nut. I wish Cole would have just tagged him out as Gomez started to approach him.
  2. Shouldnt matter how many times someone throws a cutter in a game. The pitch is a fastball with the exact same arm and wrist motion, just with a different grip on the laces.
  3. Per Twitter #Cubs report good news on CJ Edwards MRI. There is some fatigue, inflammation in shoulder but everything structurally sound Edwards will rest for couple weeks, then start a throwing program
  4. Maybe he was the Maurice Jones Drew of the era!
  5. I thought 19, 20 year old KWood before his first surgery used to hit 100 when he dialed it up. I think he was more in the 97mph and lower range during his 02-04 seasons..
  6. I'm a big fan of the quantity pitching approach and using your 1st round picks on the best hitters. That being said if the pitching talent is clearly better than the hitting talent, I want the best player available.
  7. The only better dream pairing in my life besides for Warren Buffet & the Cubs would be to go gamble and hit the strip club with Michael Jordan.
  8. Wasn't Hack Wilson like 5'4? He was built like a truck too, I still can't imagine him playing CF. He just looks like he would be super slow.
  9. Kolek is the HS kid with triple digit stuff correct? I know alot of top HS arms bust but my admittedly hazy memory has been that most were 93 to 97 mph fireballers not the guys with triple digit type heat. Has there been multiple notable HS guys with a 100mph fastball that were drafted in the top ten that have turned out busts in the last 15 years. Really the only guys I'm thinking of with legit 100mph fastballs drafted recently were Wood, Beckett, Burnett, and out of college Strasburg & Jonathan Gray.
  10. Few video requests, if there is any out there. 1) someone mentioned an AB last year where javier baez hit the ball so hard dee gordon dove out of the way of it 2) he smoked a ball the other day i think against the rangers that hurt the SS hand 3) he swung and missed against the Rangers and the guys in the game thread + the announcers were saying it was one of the prettiest swing and misses ever.. Thank you for your time Cubs fans my departing message a video of BAM BAM Baez crazy beautiful swing..
  11. Cubs vs Mets is not on tv correct?
  12. Sure I can. Not an exact match here, but assuming Turner winds up the top bat in the draft, are you taking him or Rodon, if both are there? I'd consider that a *really* tough call. I hate taking pitchers this high that much. unfortunately our divisional opponents have no qualms about it, and we'll have the fun task of dealing with Gerrit Cole, Michael Wacha, Jameson Taillon, Homer Bailey, Shelby Miller, Robert Stephenson, etc. for a very long time Half of those guys will probably get injured and flame out. Off the top of my head it seems so many of the best pitchers in baseball over the last decade have had injuries take either multiple years from them or had a major fall in production because of arm trouble. Just off the top of my head... Mark Prior Johan Santana Brandon Webb Jake Peavy Josh Beckett Carlos Zambrano Kerry Wood Rich Harden Chris Carpenter Mark Mulder Barry Zito Adam Wainwright Scott Kazmir Stephen Strasburg Matt Harvey John Lackey Ben Sheets Tim Lincecum DiceK Matszuzaka Dylan Bundy Im sure I left a few guys off as well.. Off the top of my head the only guys with sustained ace level quality over many years that I can think of are.. Halladay (retired now, probably counts more in the previous era) Cliff Lee (kind of a late bloomer) CC Sabathia (seems to be losing it a bit though) Felix Hernandez (still young but having a hell of a career) Clayton Kershaw (very young) Roy Oswalt (hell of a career, I dont think he ever missed to much time) Justin Verlander (still fairly young but having a hell of a career) It just seems crazy to me how many of these top of the line aces have flamed out.
  13. What is the magic date this year that we would likely want to wait till before starting his clock?
  14. - They have cash flow restrictions on how much they can spend on the team vis a vis their debt repayment as a result of the terms of the sale from Zell - They're intentionally minimizing future commitments to minimize their risk while the 500 million renovation project they would like to pay for and start construction on is up in the air What is it about the debt structuring of the deal that everyone speculates is so bad?
  15. His stuff looks exactly as I remember it. Actually his breaking ball looked even nastier than I had remembered. .... Sobs Uncontrollably....
  16. Not HOF related but, There are some fantastic breweries in the general area. Plan on taint a day and do a tour. You won't regret it. This is the type of investigative reporting I was looking for!! No, really... I definitely would like recommendations on the baseball and nonbaseball related activities to undergo while there! Any brewery recommendations?
  17. I dont plan on staying in Cooperstown, planning on somewhere about 45 minutes away and drive in each day.
  18. 1) Is anyone else going? 2) Has anyone gone before? 3) Approximate price of the trip? 4) Is there a cost to attend the ceremonies, events, each day? 5) Any cool restaurants, things to see while I'm in the area? 6) What were your experiences? 7) Any other advice?
  19. So disgusting..
  20. Those kind of things happened before STEROIDS! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE, OLD TIME BASEBALL, RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE
  21. I wonder if we can send the Cardinals some cash to make their pitching staff disappear to Japan?
  22. What is the range of Japanese team payrolls? What does an impact player make, an average player, and the minimum guys?
  23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkqz3lpUBp0 A ride around NYC with a crazy taxi driver in 1928 featuring Babe Ruth. I'm assuming the special effects of this guys driving were just merely driving slow and then speeding up the frame rate (sorta like fast forward?). Although I dont know much about movies, I'm sure if that were to be taken in real time about 10 people would be dead..
  24. Signs with Blue Jays for a 1 day contract to retire a Blue Jay. One of the greatest of alltime. Does he make anyone's top 10 pitchers of alltime? Im not sure how I would rank baseballs greatest pitchers after the top 5, considering the era he pitches in I have to figure he's at least close to the top 10 maybe a solid 12 to 18th best ever?
  25. Sort of answered your own question there, didn't you? Sure I can do a vast research project on it if I'd like, but some guys here might already be pretty in tune to what is going on with the Ricketts. I could also just look up all the Random Cubs musings, or the thread Cubs Prospects in the news, but I'd rather discuss it with fellow Cubs fans. Not to mention some people may be more connected to information with more details than a random blurb in fortune that the family wealth is up, down, or neutral. Nobody here knows the Ricketts' current financial situation. You can ask google for updates, but other than how the stock price has performed (reasonably well), you can only guess. I bet more people are in the loop than others.
