  1. Has there been any player anyone can think of that had good pedigree, put up minor league and major league struggling stats like Vitters and the light just clicked turning him into a starter or even good player? I know he is what he probably is and hes not necessarily young but he's also not necessarily for sure too old to improve. Is there anybody we can compare Vitters too that can give us any sort of hope. I know if possible its a 1 in 1000 chance of probably happening but still. I dont know why I even care but I guess I used to like Vitters a lot as a prospect around 08 or 09 ?
  2. That article was awesome, I guess I was spot on with the above guesstimate on what is a reasonable expectation by the law of averages for our three top ten prospects. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/543809/Decile_Pos_Players_Table2_medium.png Graphic above seems to confirm what I was thinking ^
  3. Because shut up. But mostly the volume thing. And maybe we'll just be better at developing hitters, but I really don't know if that's just stupid hope or a real thing. Five years from now we'll know. I like to think its a combination of drafting the right behavioral profile prospect and a systems approach to development. If it's mostly blind luck, I give up. I know they weren't necessarily all top ten at the same time but did Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, and Derek Jeter all make BA's top ten at one point? I'm excluding Mariano & Pettite (although I dont even know if either was an elite prospect) because I'm only interested in hitters.
  4. They may not be different, although I feel Bryant has a very good chance not to be a bust, but only time will tell how are prospects pan out. In an alternate universe maybe the Royals three top ten guys end up Allstars. Each player is an isolated case study obviously but using the mere numbers factor of top ten prospects I think you can hope for one guy ending up an Allstar, another becoming a good starter, and one of the three underwhelming. Who knows maybe we get Allstar level or near from all three players and we essentially won the lottery, but we might strikeout too. I'd be curious to see what percentage of BA's top ten prospects end up "allstar level or if you want to use another metric for very good," what percentage become "decent starters," and what percentage bust or "don't even become regular decent players." If someone has time to scrub through BA's lists going back twenty to thirty years that would be awesome. I'd also be interested in seeing what the success rate is for top 10 hitters compared to top 10 pitchers.
  5. We were passing this around work last week, pretty kickass story AND HOW THE [expletive] DID EVERYONE KEEP LETTING HIM IN THEIR [expletive] HOUSE. I think this Mel Hall article, the deadspin Steve Garvey article, and the Tom Emanski article were the best longform stories I've read in the past year.
  6. In much weirder news apparently Mel Hall was banging and living with a 15 year old girl plus her family that he met at Yankee stadium while he was a 30 yr old Yankee. Weird, interesting article... http://www.sbnation.com/2014/7/15/5883593/the-many-crimes-of-mel-hall#1-He-was-a-flamboyant-player--a-charismatic-coach--and-a-sexual-predatorChapter-One--The-Player Edit: I was at work and didn't see there was more chapters to this weird, weird story. Essentially he was sexually abusing a bunch of girls, most on junior high and high school sports teams he was coaching after retirement. Just crazy the circumstances of everything in the story.
  7. I didn't see a link on here to what he did, so for those that didn't read or watch a highlight about this. Wow, its absolutely hilarious.. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/7/20/5920487/colby-lewis-has-perhaps-the-dumbest-unwritten-rules-take-yet bahahahahaha! love it!
  8. I could care less if he wears a different hat or he was slow getting out to the field in HS games. If he makes a lazy play here or there that is disappointing but nothing I will ever lose sleep over. But, his insinuation that Baez wont work hard on his hitting like Manny Ramirez, Jorge Soler, Albert Almora, and Kris Bryant is a bit concerning. Is there any other evidence out there that Baez isn't a hard worker on his craft?
  9. Who knows maybe Hendry's idea to get more left handed was from one of the Cubs genius facebook fanclub members..
  10. Soler & Alcantara. Im probably a minority but I still feel Soler could end uo the best pure hitter of the bunch. I actually feel like most people feel that way. He just needs to stay on the field for more than 20 games at a time, Yup. I'd argue that it's a toss-up between Soler, Vogelbach, and Schwarber for the best pure offensive hitter. Bryant and Baez have elite power, but the other three are close to them (or could equal) and their patience and hit tool could make it play atleast as much in game. Bryant and Baez's K problems will limit their OBP potential value. I do not see either one with consistent 400 OBP (or close) potential. They both seem like 350 guys with elite power -- which is fantastic -- but I can envision the other three with 400 OBP potential (and Rizzo). Vogelbach is that good of a hitter?
  11. I cant remember the last good pitcher to stick with one team. It seems even less likely to happen with the arm injuries now and the fear of long pitching deals. I guess Mariano did it but I cant think of a SP.

  13. Can anybody find Rodman news from May of 95. I think it might be him headbutting the ref. My dad probably just said the nut that wears dresses headbutted a ref and my 5 year old self ingrained the dress thing in my memory.
  14. Anybody able to pull up games from 95 that buechele hit a homerun in Stl? I know Rodman was in the news for wearing a dress (maybe he wasnt a bull yet).
  15. I remember my family took a minivacation to STL and Steve Bueschele hit a homer. I was 5 and i remember. - Stevo HR - Astroturf in Stl - Bulls got Rodman and I was so angry cause Rodman wore dresses - Watching Dumb and Dumber in the hotel in stl
  16. Soler & Alcantara. Im probably a minority but I still feel Soler could end uo the best pure hitter of the bunch.
  17. That would be a very White Sox move. At least the Sox can get some MLB innings before his TJS in 6 weeks.
  18. Granted im not an insider but i think the moving Castro stuff is craziness.
  19. I think the Cubs end up with one of the two worst records in baseball after the trade last week, and i for one am happy about it.
  20. Isn't life more fun that way? This night is a fantasy turning into a wet dream. Soon we will lose our real virginity!!
  21. You guys should do an NSBB history thread. They have one on the realgm bulls forum which is pretty fun to read.
  22. If Derek Jeter changed his first name to Giancarlo in his second season would Joe Buck love him this much?
  23. BTW, it was a stupid quote. He essentially threw a couple pitches down the middle because Jeter deserved it. But, then he follows up by saying if I knew he would've hit a double I would've done something different. I dont know what is more funny that he's admitting to grooving Jeter a couple pitches. Or, that he probably inferred he was surprised Jeter could still hit a double on a pitch down the middle.
  24. Do you think Joe Buck has tears in his eyes after that Adam Wainwright quote?
  25. Between Bryant striking out in the futures game, Castro & Rizzo striking out this inning in probably their only AB's, and Giancarlo's 0fer in the 2nd round of the derby yesterday its been a terrible weekend for 4/5 of our 2016 Allstar Cubs. At least Baez ripped a homerun on a seemingly 94 mph Kerry Wood type slurve to the opposite field in the futures game.
