    Lets say in some incredibly lucky world we strike gold and Alcantara, Soler, Baez, Bryant, and Russell all become major producers at the MLB level plus continued production out of Rizzo & Castro. That is just an insane scenario to build a team around, everyone young, home grown and on either rookie or cost effective contracts. That leaves tons of money to throw at starting pitching and the bullpen.

    Even after a horrendous start Javy is still on over a 30 hr pace this year for a 162 game season. I wonder how close he can come to 30 as a rookie next year if he were up with the Cubs from opening day all the way through next year.

    I could see if he was going to be in the Minor Leagues for 15 days saying he should be put on the DL but maybe they plan on keeping him down for a week to rest therefore no reason to put him on the DL.

    Because we're kinda meatbally and fell in love with Almora's intangibles. I'm sure the Pirates are kicking themselves a bit more.. they took Mark Appel 8th (obviously didn't sign him) and could have had Russell. They got a comp pick in 2013, took Austin Meadow's.

    I'm 100% sure knowing what they know now they would take Russell ahead of Almora today. I still like Almora though and I'm a fan of what he has been doing lately. As for your question on why? Well their is mistakes on top of mistakes every year in the draft by every team. I did read an article about Addison that when they A's took him 12th it was considered a reach and that Russell was expected to go near the end of the 1st round. The reason scouts gave was that he was putting on too much weight for SS. What I found hilarious was that Russell said scouts were thinking he was losing track of his body and just lazy but Russell said the added weight was just from him hitting the weightroom hard. Russell mentioned the added 15 LB's from his JR to SR of high school was all added muscle mass.

    I thought of starting this because he's a main prospect that we are still in the honeymoon phase with. Most of us prospect geeks probably know a decent amount about him, that being said we know way more about our guys that have been Cubs from day one such as Javy, Bryant, and Soler. I also figure this thread will have a chance at longer longevity in the Minor League forum because he is a little farther from the MLB squad than the above three. Now on to Addison... the more I read and see video of this guy the more I LOVE this guy as a prospect. I think he has high floor combine with a chance to have a pretty high ceiling at a premium position. What does everyone think of his power potential? I think most assume its in the 10 to 15 hr range but I've seen a couple scouts suggest he could produce big HR pop in the MLB. He has a huge lower body and powerful core with bat speed that rivals anyone this side of Javy Baez.

    Ive seen people say he has major pop for a SS. Read in at least two spots right after the trade he could potentially get you 25 to even 30 hrs.

    Close...it was his brother. I always make fun of my Sox fan friends that their big acquisition each winter is Sandy Alomar Sr. Pretty much because it always seemed they signed ancient guys or Sandy Alomar Jr each offseason.

    apparently not, as they are attributing a lot of young pitchers' arm troubles to throwing cutters in high school It's kind of like throwing a faster version of a slider. Can put similar stress on an arm as a slider. I cant see how its similar stress to a slider at all.

    Has there been any player anyone can think of that had good pedigree, put up minor league and major league struggling stats like Vitters and the light just clicked turning him into a starter or even good player? I know he is what he probably is and hes not necessarily young but he's also not necessarily for sure too old to improve. Is there anybody we can compare Vitters too that can give us any sort of hope. I know if possible its a 1 in 1000 chance of probably happening but still. I dont know why I even care but I guess I used to like Vitters a lot as a prospect around 08 or 09 ? Hope for what? We have like 20 guys ahead of him anyway. I was asking whether there was any hope in him the individual turning it around. Obviously the system has progressed to the point that he is an after thought and not going to make or break the franchises fortunes going forward. I always like Vitters and it pretty much seems he is probably done when it comes to his chances of being a successful Cub but I was curious if anybody could pull out an example of someone with a similar story maybe turning it around this late in their career.
