Jed's news conference I thought he might say the 9th inning guy would be a competition going into spring training, but he kinda squashed that and flat out said Davis would be the closer. Wonder what Hector is thinking? Hopefully this just gives him more motivation to be ready. I also love the idea of getting Holland too, the Cubs can afford to be patient with him. Now trade for another starter so Monty can go back to the bullpen and we're set, or at least resign Travis and leave Monty as the #5. -
Not normally a big fan of Ellen but their appearance was better than Fallon. I especially liked the woman at the end who was the Cub fan who won tickets to the WS and told the story about having to live in her parents basement with her husband and kid while they saved money for a new home. Her utter excitment when she saw Bryant and Ross walk out on stage was hilarious and it was a nice gesture for Ellen to give her 10 grand to help her out. Plus she was cute as hell which helped.

It will probably come down to how much he prioritizes getting the most money. I doubt the Cubs completely lowball him (like a 1 or 2 year deal) so if he's willing to accept one less year and a couple mil less per year, there's a decent chance he'll be back. With this year's weak FA class it seems likely someone else is going to offer 4 years/15-20 per. Great for him if he gets it he seems like a great guy with a nice family. At least the Cubs will get draft pick compensation since they have extended the qualifying offer.

Good stuff. Heyward has been a mess this year we can all agree on that, but the players seem to respect him greatly. I like the fact that many said JHey doesn't say much, so when he was the one who spoke up, everybody listened and it resinated much more coming from him. At least it seems he earned some of that contract back in a pretty big way.

Feel free to flame me if it's too early to discuss this. 2017 opening day line up: Almora CF Schwarber LF Bryant 3B Rizzo 1B Zobrist 2B Russell SS Contreras C Heyward RF Lester P Obviously I'm assuming Dexter won't be back and Heyward figures out how to hit again. Would the Cubs have the guts to regulate a 184 million dollar player to a bench role to insert Baez at 2nd and Zobrist in RF on a consistent basis? Or this This line up is much sexier and gives a lock down middle infield defense: Almora CF Schwarber LF Bryant 3B Rizzo 1B Zobrist RF Russell SS Contreras C Baez 2B Lester P Or this If you want Baez at 2B badly enough and still play Heyward I suppose you could do something like this at Almora's expense but I'm at a loss as to who should Lead Off. Baez, Zobrist, Heyward, Russell, or maybe Contreras would be the only real options to lead off. Heyward CF Schwarber LF Bryant 3B Rizzo 1B Zobrist RF Russell SS Contreras C Baez 2B Lester P Bottom line there are 29 other teams that wish they had the Cubs "problems". Go Cubs!!!

I've heard talk from a lot of people about inviting Steve Bartman to the parade, throw out the first pitch next year, etc... Everything I've ever read about the poor guy is that he just wants to be left alone. He's declined every interview or appearance since 2003. He has an attorney friend who handles all his calls, which the attorny does free of charge, and the attorney tells people the same thing over and over, that Steve doesn't want to come out publicly. I mean put yourself in his shoes, wouldn't you want the same? Bartman's life was severely altered in 2003. The whole thing is motifying and he's probably had many sleepless nights because of it. He doesn't want to be paraded around like some rescue puppy from the humane shelter and patted on the head and told everything is forgiven. He just wants to live his life and be left alone. I'm sure he's as thrilled as all of us the Cubs won the World Series and hopefully he gains a little peace of mind because of it.

Joe Maddon for brain cramping for 36 hours Yeah, I think some of Joe's moves made sense but others were head scratchers. Joe's worst decision by far was pulling Kyle early. He should have left Kyle in to finish the 5th, then brought him out for the 6th and WAITED until there was a SERIOIUS threat. KYLE WAS FREAKING DEALING! Just imagine how that game could have gone if the horsefeathering ump would have rung Santana up in the 5th. Hendricks would have entered the 6th with a 6-1 lead after Rossy's HR and probably still would have been shutting them down. I might go so far to say Kyle could have finished that horsefeathering game on his own if given the chance. Maddon, love the guy, but he WAAAAAAYYYYY over thought the decision to bring in Lester that early. I would have rode the major league ERA leader as long as I could. Joe just seemed determined to follow some lame game plan to bridge Lester to Chapman at the first inkling of trouble. Joe could have easily waited for Lester in the 7th or eventhe 8th for that matter. If Kyle got in trouble, he could have had Monty come in and finish the inning and let Lester start off the next inning clean.

Do we realize how close Rajai Davis came to becoming the next great meme of Cubs futility? It would have been The Goat, Bartman, and Rajai Davis... Thank god this team didn't let that happen and from the sounds of things, thank god for 17 minute rain delays. Man I love this team, they turned the whole Cub culture on is ear and said screw that we're gonna win this thing.

I know it sounds crazy but I'm glad this game is in Cleveland tonight. The pressure of playing in front of the Wrigley fans in a game 7 would be smothering in my opinion. The Cubs just seem more relaxed on the road this post season overall, at least hitting wise. All the Wrigley fans, who are awesome, can be a bit overwhelming in a pressure packed situation.

Nah, that's a good thing. We need offense and cold weather would only make it that much harder. I'll take our offense over Cleveland's any day of the week and twice on Sundays so the advantage of warm weather I would hope would favor the Cubs.

Lester will be available tomorrow, if not tonight. Lester already said he could go tonight, but I'm sure Joe wants to avoid using him until tomorrow where he could get multiple innings out of him.

My bullpen confidence order would be something like this: Chapman Monty Edwards Lester Strop Lackey Wood Grimm Rondon FIXED It's not fixed, it's just your opinion. I have mine, you have yours. I didn't say that's the order Joe would use, it's just the order I'm most confident someone can get people out. Edit; And there's no way I would have Edwards over Strop in a high leverage situation.

The cool thing about Lester is you know he has a Bumgarner streak in him in the post season. He might be able to give you an inning tonight since he just pitched on Sunday. However, if the Cubs get lucky and don't have to use him tonight, I could see Jon enter game 7 in the 6th inning with the lead and finish it. They'd probably go with Chapman in the 9th, but if Jon is dealing, Joe may not mess around with it, especially if Chapman pitches multiple innings tonight.

It's all hands on deck for an elimination game. Lester in a pinch tonight would not be a shocker either, but I'm sure Joe would rather save Lester for a game 7 appearance if at all possible. The only relievers right now I'm confident in are Montgomery, Strop, and Chapman. The others have done a decent job but with the season on the line in say the 7th inning, I would feel more confident with Lester than any of them other than Chapman. I'm still confident in Strop pitching. The only bad playoff outing he had was in garbage time against the Dodgers. That said, the FG guys seem to be speculating Joe hasn't been using him much because he's not physically right. I would still probably trust him pitching over Lackey but not by much. This is what I hope for tonight. The players and coaches need to stay in the moment, pitch by pitch and win game 5. Stay in the moment and don't look ahead, the fans and the media are already doing enough of that for you. I want them to fight and force a game 6. This team has never given up all year and I don't expect them to start doing so now on the biggest stage. Win tonight and gain some confidence for game 6 and let Cleveland know we aren't done yet. Find a way to win game 6, pitch by pitch, don't think about game 7. Win game 6 and the pressure falls on Cleveland to not blow a 3-1 series lead. Game 7 will be epic win or lose. Keep the faith. Go Cubs!
