  1. David, that's the type of thinking that has the Cardinals where they are today. Anything Javy does at the plate is extra gravy, his glove however is game changing. Meant to reply to this yesterday but my phone screwed up the post and I gave up on it, but this just is an absurdly drastic overstatement. The choice between Baez and a lesser fielding 2B who can hit a lot better isn't the choice between a great defense and the Cardinals, nor is the notion true that Javy can be a complete non-contributor at the plate (what you're saying) and still be an impact "game changing" player because of his glove. What you described is basically Darwin Barney at his peak. Fair enough. I just think Javy can win the job at 2B outright by next year if he shows he can handle RHP more effectively. Joe will have his hands full keeping everyone happy regardless, especially if Happ enters the mix. Here's an article by Patrick Mooney from a couple of days ago about this very subject that I thought was kind of interesting. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-cubs/cubs-javier-baez-beginning-takeover-second-base-job-ben-zobrist-joe-maddon
  2. Fun with numbers... I know it's early but still fun. As of 4/10/16 First 6 games. 2016 Season AVG HR RBI OBP OPS .526 1 4 .640 1.535 As of 4/9/17 First 6 games. 2017 Season AVG HR RBI OBP OPS .174 0 0 .296 .533 And to top it off it sounds like he's having trouble finding a good place to live. Still love ya Dex!
  3. Almost fixed, still looks a lot better than I thought he would coming into the season.
  4. Happ's blocked too don't you think? Javy's probably going to be the everyday 2B next year and Zobrist will become the utility guy. Happ could take La Stella's spot but how much playing time could Happ hope to get unless he plays in the OF. Ewww. Has everybody forgotten that javy is a terrible hitter against most pitchers? I love him but the hot playoffs and spectacular defensive highlights have made everyone nuts. David, that's the type of thinking that has the Cardinals where they are today. 6. Personally I want Chris Archer badly. That's a good start with the two you mentioned but it would probably take more. I know Tampa loves Javy, but that isn't happening.
  7. Jake could be just dialing it back a little to start the season. It's a long way to go and he had a short off-season so he probably realizes if he wants something left in the tank for October he needs to be conservative in how much energy he exerts. I'm with David, when Jake needs to dial it up, I'm sure he can dial it up.
  8. Ryan Horsefeathers Braun. The only thing Cub and Cardinal fans can agree on.
  9. weird, i feel sorta the opposite. like he seems to hit a ton of pop ups and stuff, especially when he falls into his ruts. Doing a little poking around baseball savant, Russell had a below average Avg. Exit Velocity last year, but was near the top 10% or so in > 95 mph hits and 'barrels'. So basically what I was trying to get at. When he squares one up he really nails it if he's in the top 10%. Thanks for the info.
  10. weird, i feel sorta the opposite. like he seems to hit a ton of pop ups and stuff, especially when he falls into his ruts. Like I said, maybe it's just me. I guess what I meant to say is when he gets a hold of one he really seems to square it up more than some players.
  11. I don't know if this is a thing, or if there's a way to calculate it, but when Addi makes contact he seems to put the barrel of the bat on the ball more so than other people. Or is it just me?
  12. KB becoming the second best defensive 3B in the league behind Arenado? He's come a long way regardless.
  13. Yeah Derwood, that's the one I was thinking of. Funny who was involved too, couple of recognizable faces.
