  1. Basically the article at cubs.com says the season is over too for him. I have no idea where the 4 to 6 weeks came from.
  2. WOW...is it possible for a baseball game to be less exciting? The Cubs will reel off 3 straight wins before the break and narrowly save Dusty's job.
  3. One thing I wonder about...in the last year Kerry has had every kind of test imaginable on that shoulder. Other than the problem they corrected with surgery every test has come back showing he is structurally sound. Now he hasn't thrown in awhile and yet now they say he has a partial tear of the rotator cuff. Now just how does that happen and how did they finally find it? And has anyone only been out 4 to 6 weeks with a torn rotator cuff? 6 weeks from today would be August 19th. Anyone want to bet that he will be back pitching by August 19th?
  4. Partially torn rotator cuff? 4 to 6 weeks? Dream on...
  5. That was my thinking too. If it were the Jones from the first month and a half have him bunt but the Jones from the past month plus should have been swinging away. Also Murton and Cedeno were the two hitters following Jones that Dusty was banking on driving in the runs and that is a pretty bad option these days.
  6. Throw in Abreu and we're good to go!
  7. I'm so glad we have 30+ million to spend this off season! Unfortunately if they don't go out and spend that kind of money they are going to have about the same quality team next year that they have this year.
  8. Okay...crosses Jody, Jody Davis off the Cubs new manager short list. Seriously, I could have understood it if Neifi were batting or if it had been the 8th inning or so. Not the 4th inning with Jones batting though.
  9. Is Dusty putting on a clinic on the most efficient way to killl a promising inning? Friday night, 7-7-06 game in Milwaukee... Top of the 4th inning, first two batters in the inning walked (that's a miracle in itself). Jones comes up and tries a sac bunt that fails and of course then the inning goes to crap and we don't score. Why would you try a sac bunt in that situation when you have one of the better hitters on the team up and it was only the 4th inning and you are clinging to a 1-0 lead? Turns out the Cubs won anyway but at the time I would have liked to have climbed through the TV and strangeled Dusty Baker!
  10. Only one big bat? Putting a bandaid on a gaping wound won't stop the bleeding. Sheesh, lets set our sights a little higher and get a big bat, another good bat, a top flight pitcher and another decent pitcher. Then we would have a chance.
  11. Come on Dude, we're in the middle of a pennant race here!
  12. The slippery slope is this. The Cubs pitching has failed due to trying to be perfect because poor offense. The offense has been just god aweful, but with D Lee, Barrett, Jones and JP getting in a grove, runs are going to be scored once again. Am Ram will alway be a side-kick, never a main hero. The defense as a whole is respectable. So if the offense gives 3 runs a game, the pitchers can give quality starts and the pen does what it's suppost to do sans Fat Glendon. then I see the Cubs fighting for respectability once again. (hears.. off in the distance the "neigh sayers" stampeding toward the thread.") How's that coming along? Once again the Cubs prove you can't win if you don't score.
  13. My biggest gripe with Rothschild has been his inability to get our pitchers to consistently throw strikes and keep their pitch counts down. Oh, and the towel toss is stupid too.
  14. Unfortunately, this post could be speaking the truth. While it is hard for me to ever root against the Cubs, losing may be the best thing to awaken management that changes need to be made. OT: Love the Avatar of Landry. GO COWBOYS!!!
  15. The love Hendry shows for Rothschild is disturbing.
  16. I remember Leon Durham stealing home against STL I believe. And Rick Sutcliff although I believe Sutcliffs was the back end of a double steal.
  17. I didn't know much about Shines either but I like what I read. Of course Hendry probably doesn't know about him either. I see the same retread manager type also if Dusty is fired...which I don't think he will be.
  18. If the Cubs pitchers can shutout the other team the rest of the year we wll probably win most of those games.
  19. You're right I'm sure we all could not agree on whoever Hendry picks. IMO the fans on this board will disagree about all of the transactions made by this team. It's up to Hendry to pick the right guy and give him some players and it's up to us to speak our opinion on the subject. Will the masses be right? Maybe. Will Hendry be right? Maybe. I like reading what choices posters here put up and it increases my knowledge of the subject. Yes I know that some will complain but if the Cubs are winning I'm sure the chemistry on the board will be just fine! Disclaimer...please don't play 650 ball from here on Cubbies because we might as well get a top 5 pick and go into 2007 strong! If the Cubs play .650 ball the rest of the way the Earth will be sucked into itself and vaporize. My 3 choices would be: Girardi Gonzalez Shines My first choice would be Girardi. I like what he's done in Florida this year. The fish would no doubt want some compensation though to let him go to Chicago.
  20. Actually I think Dusty said that because he knows he isn't going anywhere.
  21. I think that pretty much says Baker is not being fired next week. What else would he say, that he's nervous about being fired? This doesn't change anything, of course that's what Dusty is going to say. Probably going to fire a couple of secretaries. Maybe that guy that doctors up the balls before the games. A parking lot attendant...you know, the people that are responsible for this mess.
  22. If something is going to happen, I don't see why not next week. If nothing was going to happen, Hendry would say so, he always has in the past. GMs don't talk about "evaluating everything" without bringing out the axe. I just don't see how "he will use the four-day break to decide whether an overhaul is in order" means he's going to fire Baker and the whole coaching staff next week. Especially after the 4 day break. Maybe I'm reading too much into his comments. Maybe he wil fire Baker Sunday night and then evaluate the rest of the team over the next 4 days. Still, I'll believe it when I see it. I wouldn't say he's definitely firing the guy. But Hendry said throughout the freefall that he'd give Baker the chance to manage with a more healthy team. He's got them all back, and now Hendry is changing his statements. Baker has insinuated that Hendry failed to put a good team together, and Hendry has said that despite all the bad luck, they shouldn't be this far below .500. In reality he doesn't need the 4 days to evaluate. But that's just something GMs say when they don't want to say "I'm really thinking about firing the guy and blowing the whole team up but I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger just yet and I want to get my plans in order to handle the fall-out. Plus, I need to talk to guys about filling the vacancies." Ya know...if this was any other team on the planet I'd have to agree with you. If they fire Baker I'll be the first one dancin' in the street. :D
