  1. I still think a lot of people are over-estimating what Maddux will fetch. Sure, if someone offers a top prospect, jump at it. I just don't see the offer coming. So if someone offers an suspect instead of a top prospect should we deal him? I still think in 2007 he could be as good as any other 5th starter in the league. Just an opinion though. We should know in a little over an hour.
  2. As Harry might say, why didn't we have someone to notice that? :D
  3. Yeah, bad trade for the BoSox. Agreed but it could be possible if they know Nixon is lost for awhile. I don't think they have any confidence in Wily Mo.
  4. Yeah, if you're 100% convinced Aramis wants out. Otherwise, no. I'm not convinced. Plus I'm not a big fan of Ensberg away from the Maid.
  5. how about Ramirez and Navoa for Lidge and Ensberg I think we'd be getting hosed in both of those deals.
  6. Or it could be opposing pitchers made the choice that they weren't going to let Aramis beat them and decided to take their chances with Jones...who also did nothing when they needed him most. I'd dare to say that Lee wouldn't have had the year he had in 2005 if Aramis wasn't around too.
  7. This is a case of quantity over quality. quantity is a quality Sometimes. But is a ton of crap really better than a pound of crap? I'd argue no. To a farmer, yes. They need all the fertilizer they can get.
  8. Just out of curiosity...how much of a prospect was Smoltz when the Tigers traded him for Doyle Alexander? Right now, at this point in his career, I see Maddux as a lot worse pitcher than Alexander was.
  9. a team in contention doesn't need inning eaters. that's about the lamest attribute a guy can bring any team, actually. They do if they have a weak bullpen. that's gonna have to be a really weak bullpen if you'd rather throw a guy with a 4.70 era out there for an extra inning instead of going to the pen. i've just never understood the fascination with inning eaters. can't anyone be an inning eater if quality is irrelevant? They could if their manager left them in longer. :D
  10. You think the Cubs will score against Webb? Mr. Positivity...
  11. As stated in the mulitple aramis threads, there will be a potential hole at 3B whether we trade him today or not. He is going to opt out of his contract, and he will be a free agent at the end of this season...no matter what happens today. I really don't think Hendry will let him walk as long as he doesn't demand anything completely ridiculous or unless he just flat out doesn't want to play for the Cubs and would even take less money to get away. I don't think either one of those things will happen. This teams offense has been dreadful for awhile now and it would be foolish to trade a hitter of Aramis caliber. We could use more like him. Not less.
  12. That is just wrong. He said one thing about the pitchers giving up runs well after their 2 month run of suckiness and we still don't know under what context the question was asked. Aramis is NOT the reason the Cubs are where they are. It's the whole team. Manager, coaches, front office. Everyone!
  13. WOW...posters on this board really think the Cubs have a lot of talent to trade judging by what they think we should get for guys like Maddux, Walker, Nevin etc... And trading Aramis creates a much bigger hole than it fills. There is going to be a lot of unhappy posters here at 3:00 pm today.
  14. Well you can't knock the Phillies for trading for Jesus, a real savior.
  15. Ramirez agrees to $42 million contract That was over a year ago. People change. A year ago the Cubs looked like they could be going in the right direction after 04, now look at them. So have you seen a quote from Ramirez anywhere that he might opt out or is this pure conjecture on everyones part?
  16. Might I ask where Aramis has said he plans to opt out? From the article from ESPN when he agreed to the contract: Ramirez agrees to $42 million contract
  17. I hope I'm wrong but I think Dempster is going to make this exciting.
  18. Putting the ball in play is better than swinging at bad pitches and striking out. Witness Mabry over Nevin and Jones.
  19. I don't think anyone is going to come calling for Nevin in the next 24 hours. At least they won't be offering much for him if they do call.
  20. I would agree with that. I'm not arguing the point. It's just my opinion he would have made it.
  21. How would Murton have been out by 10 feet? The ball was 20 feet up the 3rd base line. He would have scored easily. Yup-I just rewound my Tivo..the catcher caught it about 5 feet up the line-but he was right on the line, and the throw home came so fast that there is no way that Murton would have been there yet. He would have been out easily. Disagree...but that is okay.
  22. How would Murton have been out by 10 feet? The ball was 20 feet up the 3rd base line. He would have scored easily.
  23. Bob would have sent him. Why sac bunt if you aren't going to send him? Pagan is so terrible. Makes you long for Wendell Kim, huh?
