Tulo has played in 37 out of 40 games so far this year and accumulated 3.6fWAR. That total puts him ahead of the team total of 13 other teams. His current 3.6fWAR is equal to the total fWAR of the Astros,Padres,Cubs and Diamondbacks combined.
Sandberg is putting Dusty Baker to shame today. He runs Cole Hamels out for 133 pitches on his 4th start coming off of shoulder issues. He then wont use Papelbon 3 days in a row, instead opting to use Robert Hernandez for the save. Hernandez had just thrown 99 pitches on Friday.
On the bright side, I am so damn happy Sandberg isn't out manager. He just sent Cole Hamels out for the 7th already at 116 pitches and on only his 5th start after a long term shoulder related DL stint. He finishes with 133 pitches.
Except for the fact that IF they decide to deal Shark he will have way more value at midseason than at year's end. Either trade him between now and the trading deadline or lock him up as a long-term piece. Those are the only two logical options. There is zero to be gained for having him win (HA!) meaningless games in August. If we had signed Tanaka or Darvish we wouldn't be playing meaningless games in August. Trading Shark (and probably Hammel) at the deadline probably means 2 or 3 more years of meaningless games in August. Adding Darvish or Tanaka doesn't make this team competitive until August. The team would still suck.
Beede is Jonathan Sanchez. Great stuff, but because of the lack of control he'll always put a lot of guys on base and only go 5 or 6 innings. I want nothing to do with him.
