  1. I really would like they made the draft a free for all again. Let some team dump 25M to completely revamp their farm system in one year instead of having to do it over a 3 year period.
  2. Honestly, how many Price suitors are even realistic at this point. STL needs to address their offense and there's no way they can grab Chris Davis or Heyward if they grabbed Price. Even with Lynn's TJS and Lackey leaving they're still super deep. Wainwright,Wacha,Martinez,Garcia,Gonzales,Lyons and Cooney. Dodger's have been heavily rumored to be trying to shed payroll to get down closer to 200M which many believe leaves them out of Greinke and therefore Price territory. Thanks to the luxury tax, the Yankees would have to pay 45M a year to have David Price pitch and there's no way it's going to happen. I kind of get the impression the Red Sox are bidding against themselves right now.
  3. I hope that Boston is stupid enough to do that. 7/225 Boston, have fun with that.
  4. Yeah, he has my vote for 2nd infielder off the bench with Lastella being the other. He should be an improvement over Herrera, at least.
  5. Gentry was DFA'd, I think he could probably be had on a minor league contract, with roster invite at this point. He'd definitely be superior to Szczur as a 5th OFer option. If he came real cheap I'd be game.
  6. Over 10 years I think that's absolutely reasonable. There's no way he's getting 30M annually or an 8 to 10 year deal.
  7. 4.07xFIP, 4.16xFIP and 88.3% of his pitches are a fastball or a cutter. I wouldn't pay anywhere near what it would likely take to land him.
  8. My ideal Scenario I believe we were sitting at about 112M assuming all arbitration cases were tendered. Non Tender Wood (-7M) Samardzija 4/60 (+15M) Trade Soler(2m)+Hammel(11M)+5M to Indians for Salazar+Justus Sheffield (-8M) Heyward 10/200 (+20M) O'Day 4/32(+8M) Trade Candelario or Vogelbach for Will Smith(MIL) That should put payroll at roughly 133M, leaving about 7M for whatever else(Vladmir Gutierrez/Yasiel Sierra). 1B:Rizzo 2B:Castro SS:Russell 3B:Baez RF:Bryant CF:Heyward LF:Schwarber C:Montero Bench:Ross,LaStella,Szczur,Coghlan,C.Villanueva SP:Arrieta,Lester,Salazar,Samardzija,Hendricks RP:Rondon,O'Day,Strop,Grimm,Smith,Richard,Ramirez Offense improves slightly. Defense at (3B,RF and CF improves. BP and SP drastically improve.
  9. To me, this is exactly what it would mean. Add Jeff at 5/85, trade for Ross or Salazar, throw 10/200 at Heyward and move Hammel and the 11M he's owed to whoever. That would leave you roughly 10M to address whatever else.
  10. Sign Heyward Trade Baez+ for Ross Sign Cuban Sierra Post for Maeda Rizzo/Castro/Russell/Bryant/LaStella/Another IF Schwarber/Heyward/Soler/Coghlan/RH CF Backup Type Montero/Ross Arrieta/Lester/Ross/Hendricks/Hammel/Sierra/Maeda/Rich Hill Type While I very much would like Sierra or Maeda, I'd prefer someone with a history of getting it done in the MLB.
  11. Heyward would be option #1 for me if I could come up with a realistic option that still allowed the Cubs to add 2 pitchers. After Heyward I'm not even sure they could afford to go out and grab the Kennedy and Kazmirs of FA.
  12. I hope there's very limited to no interest there. Guy has been a 3fWAR player who happened to put up a monster 6.7fWAR in his walk year. He's going to get way too much money for the type of player he has been 3 of the last 4 seasons.
  13. Happy for the guy. One more nice pay day on a career that could have been over a dozen times.
  14. In a veteran clubhouse I wouldn't care, but with so many young guys I would really like to avoid Puig.
  15. I'm usually quite good at guessing the contract, but rather awful at picking the teams.
  16. Margot is a top 25 guy. Just finished his age 21 season at AA, projects for plus defense, plus to plus plus speed, and elite contact ability. I think he has Michael Bourn written all over him. Guerra is another top 100 guy with legit above average or better defense at SS, but the bat lags behind. Some thing Logan Allen is a closer in the making as well.
  17. So, in all likelihood the Red Sox could sign O'Day for 4/36 but instead have chosen to spend just about as much money and give away very good prospects as well for Kimbrel. Color me confused.
  18. In Wieters case I think it's more about wanting a 5 or 6 years deal next year if he has good season this year. He was probably only going to get 3/45, 4/60 max. He shows he's healthy again and next year he could pull 5/85, 6/100.
  19. Newcomb is extremely good and a good bet to be a top 25 guy going into 2016. Quite honestly I'm shocked a pitching starved team like the Angels would make this deal unless they know something about Newcomb's arm that others dont.
  20. Brewer's Will Smith please. Add him and O'day and the bullpen is a monster.
  21. I am just not that interested in Price. I'd much prefer go the Zimmermann+Span+O'day route over the Price+Austin Jackson route
  22. The Mets already have a very good prospect in Dilson Herrera who will be taking over 2B. He doesn't have Baez's ceiling, but he still a very good prospect and I doubt they're looking to upgrade from prospect, they're probably looking for a more sure thing.
  23. It always made sense to me that he'd be included in a deal to CLE who is trying to compete next year as well. Something like Soler+Hammel for Salazar+Justus.
  24. So much harder than it was a year ago, but here we go. 1)Gleyber:Above average tools across the board except for power and even that may end at a decent 15 per year. He has been pushed very hard so I'm not going to worry too much about a declining BB%. Not an immense ceiling, but a safe bet to be a regular as far as 19 year olds go. 2)Contreras:His explosion couldn't have come at a better time. Vastly improved K rate, climbing BB% and supposed 1.85 to 1.90 pop times. The only guy in the system I have no interest in moving and the Cubs opening day starting catcher in 2017. 3)Jiminez:Nice bounce back after a disappoint 2014. He had a surprisingly low 17.2K% despite prodigious power. For me he unquestionably holds the highest ceiling of all the position players. 4)McKinney:Great plate discipline and good contact skills. Likely relegated to a corner outfield position, his current 10-15HR pop needs to increase for him to be truly exciting. As is, I could see him becoming a David Dejesus type. 5)Happ:I'm going to try and no panic about the bad K rates at lower levels and focus on the better than advertised, power and speed. To go along with a nice BB%. I could see his ceiling as a 20/20 guy which would be a steal if he can stick at 2B or CF. 6)Almora: I'm buying on his improved BB% and power to go with his already elite contact skills. His 2nd half .301/.370/.464 line at AA was a resounding success for a player who will still be 21 when the 2016 season begins. 7)Underwood: Two potential plus pitches with a third that should be at least above average if he can locate it. 2016 will be big for him, because he needs to start showing he can miss some bats. 5.89K/9 isn't going to cut it. Still, the ceiling is substantial 8)Edwards: I'd like to see him spend the entirety of 2016 in a final effort to see if he has any hope of sticking as a starter. The stuff is filthy and his ability to not give up hard contact is otherworldly. Even if he doesn't stick, he's a closer in the making. 9)Cease: Supposedly touched 97-99 in just about all his starts coming off TJS. The control was a bit erratic but that was too be expected. Probably the highest ceiling for a pitcher in the sytem 10)Eddy: Not sure who to believe. One person talks about him like he's just another guy while another talks about him like he's a borderline top 50 talent in the minors. 11)Zagunis:Between the amazing plate discipline, strong arm, moderate power and speed, Zagunis should be able to find a niche as a 4th OFer. If the defense is good enough, I could even see 2nd team starter. 12)Pierce: Already 24, this is the year he has to show if he's going to be a starter going forward or if he's going to be relegated to the pen. The stuff is too good for the poor K rate 6.82K/9. If he does go to the pen I think he can be a strong set up man. 13)Steele: If we're talking about what is as opposed to what might be in the future, Steele has been well ahead of Cease and Sands. He doesn't have Dylan's upside, but he still has middle of the rotation stuff. 14)Candelario: Big bounce back year after nearly falling into the failed prospect abyss. It all depends on his ability to stick at 3B. Another year of his 2015 numbers with solid defense reviews and I'd have him safely in the top 10, but if he ends up at 1B I'm not sure I have him in my top 25. 15)Williams: By all reports the stuff is just so so and yet the guys finshes the season in AA after having not thrown above Short A ball before 2015. He may end up being the cheap answer to replace Hendricks once Hendricks gets to FA.
