  1. Pure suckage. How can a guy lose the ability to throw strikes like this
  2. If there is no punishment for the action, and no way of detecting use, then the memo may as well be printed on toilet paper. It's useless.
  3. Couldn't agree more. Without enforcement a rule or law simply does not exist.
  4. Mlb.com disagrees with you. 1998: A jar of androstenedione is discovered in the locker of St. Louis slugger Mark McGwire, who is neck and neck with Sammy Sosa in the great chase at Roger Maris' all-time record of 61 homers hit during the 1961 season. McGwire admits he uses the steroids precursor and goes on to hit a then record 70 homers. Using steroids, precursors or performance-enhancing drugs is not illegal at that point in Major League Baseball. Source: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/drug_policy.jsp?content=timeline
  5. I think that Sosa belongs in the Hall of Fame. As I learn more and more about the steriod era it becomes clear to me that a majority of players were probably juicing. Even Neifi Perez has been caught twice since drug testing went into effect, so I think it is safe to say that it was not just the big name players of the era who were using. Plus to the best of our knowledge Sosa never tested positive, and has never admitted to using PED's. I do not believe that you can overlook this fact when considering his candidacy. Furthermore, during the years of Sosa's alleged use steriods were not illegal in the sport of baseball. If we assume baseball players are like most other individuals that are rational, self interested people, who are then presented with a means to legally improve their job performance, then where is the incentive to not juice? Players had the choice to not juice and let the game pass them by, or to get on board and try to keep up and earn competitive contracts. Because juicing was not illegal in the sport of baseball, and has been proven to be widespread during the era I believe that players from this era should be admitted to the HOF if they are worthy. The players should not be blamed for the steriod mess. The blame lies exclusively with the commisioners office and the union. They turned a blind eye to a problem that GM's, managers, and people around baseball knew was going on, because they knew that juicing was good for the popularity of the game and good for their wallets. Then when they were caught with their pants down they managed to shift all of the blame onto the players. Sorry for the length of the post I just wanted to chime in with my opinions.
  6. I know that it is the SEC, but I think you need to give him at least one recruiting cycle before you can accurately guage his performance. 2 years seems a little short, especially given the fact he came in late in the recruiting season this year.
  7. I was hoping to see ageless wonders Julio Franco or Fred McGriff at first. Get a win today cobs last night was brutal, I watched the game with my two best friends. They're both White Sox fans.
  8. What a great wordsmith
  9. it's good to see the guys joking again
  10. By who? All of them? I guess my thinking was to be unconventional. Odds are that we will get nothing out of the bottom third of our order today, so why not try to catch the defense completely off guard?
  11. with the trouble we've had scoring runs i wouldn't mind a suicide here
  12. well there goes the no hitter. pessimists be damned
  13. Anyone else think that Loney and D Lee could be brothers?
  14. I keep waiting for a reason to be optimistic. maybe today is the day.
  15. This is a joke, if high school athletes can't be in the presense of alcohol, then presumably everytime they enter their own home they are violating the athletic code of conduct. I would love to see how this thing is written, but if he wasn't drinking and made a responsible choice then this seems like an overreaction. Also his friend is a nark, and if I were the kid I would not hesitate to kick his ass.
  16. Another fine thread start GTP. What the hell was Steve Stone thinking
  17. I'm just going to throw all my thoughts in one post. It seems to me like Henley could be a Roger Powell type. Nice midrange game, and an instinctive rebounder. I'm sure playing with Mike Shaw will help his ranking a lot. There was a nice write up on Shaw in the tribune a few days ago. Here is the link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-talk-mcgrath-shawmay26,0,4153315.story I know UK doesnt mind getting their hands dirty to win, but this has some eerie parallels to the Sampson situation at IU. Cal should not have to cheat to win at UK, so I think they will be ok. But as we saw with Sampson it can be hard for a serial cheater to resist the urge. Also in reading the papers from Memphis, I am surprised by the level of surprise over the charges. Anyone with half a brain knew they were cheating, and it was only a matter of time before getting pinched. This was more inevitable than it was surprising IMO.
  18. sweet, this will make the drive home much more bearable
  19. that was one foxy rbi. sorry couldn't help myself. flame away
  20. wow. freel, cotts, miles, and now zambrano all in the same day. talk about epic carnage. meanwhile on planet lou all seems pleasant and the cubs are going to be ok.
  21. I was much more concerned he was out for the season, so even just getting him back for August and September is huge. either way, were going to have to finally get a real baseball player for 3rd. As opposed to all of those fake basketball players we've had at 3rd? :-s any suggestions?
  22. Did it look serious? Is that a question or a wish? I admit a little of both. How long til Aramis returns? Likely at least two more months. Thats just downright depressing at this point
