  1. My favorite Dero moment was when he hit that grand slam on August 6th. I was there :D
  2. Miles Dempster Harden Zambrano Peavy Season over.
  3. I think they are trying to sign every player in MLB. The title and subject of one of my favorite Onion articles of all time... Yankees Ensure 2003 Pennant by Signing Every Player in Baseball - NEW YORK—With a week to go before pitchers and catchers report for spring training, the New York Yankees shored up their pitching, hitting, and defense Monday by signing every player in professional baseball. "It's an honor to be part of this team," said catcher Benito Santiago, picked up from the San Francisco Giants as insurance in case catchers Jorge Posada, Ivan Rodriguez, and Mike Piazza all go down with injuries. "It's a surprise, certainly, but I'd be crazy to turn down the opportunity to play on what is, by default, the greatest team in baseball." The mass signing, extravagant even by Yankees standards, caused the Bronx Bombers' payroll to skyrocket from a former league high of $149 million to $5.6 billion." http://www.theonion.com/content/node/27656 Ha...I mentioned this one in the Texiera thread...thanks for posting it. I posted it first :(

  5. I love some of the quotes on wiki about the knuckler: "I never worry about it. I just take my three swings and go sit on the bench. I'm afraid if I ever think about hitting it, I'll mess up my swing for life." ― All-star first baseman Dick Allen I always thought the knuckleball was the easiest pitch to catch. Wait'll it stops rolling, then go to the backstop and pick it up." ― broadcaster and former catcher Bob Uecker "There are two theories on hitting a knuckleball. Unfortunately, neither of them works." ― famed hitting coach Charlie Lau "For a knuckleballer, a pitch count of 150 is not a problem. Unless it's the first inning." ― Dave Clark, author of The Knucklebook "Knuckleballs suck." ― Geno Petralli after giving up four passed balls in one inning
  6. Have there been many great players that became great coaches?Maddux can talk startegy but does he know how fix mechanics? The Maddux effect probably helps guys that have the ability to locate pitches but not power pitchers. Location is more important than power.
  7. Lee? Fukudome and Zambrano to a lesser extent? That's what I was thinking too. Lee could probably do a little better next year, Zambrano's ERA should be closer to 3 than 4, and Fukudome should hopefully rebound from a terrible second half.
  8. I see this stat used with hitters sometimes (it means Batting Average on Balls in Play, right?) to see how lucky a hitter is. But aren't all hits "in play?" Shouldn't BA be the same as BaBIP? Or do Home Runs/GRDs not count as in play?
  9. Didn't the Cubs match their Pythagreon average though, meaning they weren't lucky? And we have Harden all year, instead just half. We'll be adding a left handed outfield bat, and perhaps another starting pitcher better than Marquis, so I think we'll be about the same team, if not better.
  10. I mean, we're the only ballclub who basically will be pretty identical to last year (we lost wood, but we have harden for the whole year, minus a few starts). Brewers lost two aces, Cardinals only added Greene and their pixie dust is sure to wear off, the Astros and Pirates still suck, and the Reds are managed by Dusty Baker. Are we going to run away with the division next year? *knocks on wood*
  11. Would you rather have the Cubs go 12-150 but winning every game against the Cardinals or go 150-12 but losing every game against the Cardinals?
  12. Joey Gathright sounds like a white name.
  13. Lol at the ad at the bottom: http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/imgad?id=CP7Jr9OC3YuCPhCsAhjvATIIcaC-R1ylrw0
  14. Plus he had that walkoff homerun in the 18th inning in the 2005 NLDS against the Braves, which means he's a great player.
  15. Finally, now we finally know what the hold up is: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/What-in-Vegas-has-kept-Peavy-out-of-the-Cubbie-b;_ylt=AoPyMUj88gSvlCOe4mzma2wRvLYF?urn=mlb,128067
  16. It sticks in my mind it's usually around the end of July. Yes, it is always hot as balls. The HOFers are always dripping with sweat. Come on, you're from the south. You should know better. Back in '05, I went for Ryno's induction. It was sunny and 82 degrees at 1:00 on induction day. Those people were fanning themselves and bitching and moaning about how hot it was. Try spending the middle of the day in a cow pasture in south Arkansas on July 31 --- you'd kill for 82 degrees :) As for Rickey, which ever writer fails to vote for him should be stripped of all credentials on the spot. There is not one reason why Rickey should be in. Don't you mean shouldn't?
  17. This is why, before my child goes to preschool (in the rare chance I actually have kids) I'm going to tell him/her that some kids at school will believe in a fictional being who delivers presnts on Christmas, and not to believe those kids. I still plan on having Christmas, just without Santa. Should be interesting once my kid tells other kids that Santa doesn't exist, though.
  18. Awesome.
  19. I'll be having presents; I'm sure my kids wouldn't care who brought them as long as they got presents. And I find it funny that one is judging how my future success is going to be based on my views on santa and kids.
  20. You aren't taking anything away if you didn't give them anything in the first place.
  21. It's not anime.
  22. i can't let this slide anymore dude. what the hell is up with your sig? http://www.sinfest.net There are some comics that feature that cat and dog. Here's one. Definitely one of the greatest webcomics out there.
  23. I really like Blanco too, it really is a tragedy that this had to happen. My Thoughts are with him and his family.
