  1. Scooter Tucker has always been one of my favorite baseball names. Should have been a catcher.
  2. The game's also on MLB Network. And, if anyone can answer, the Steve Stone photos aren't real, are they? They're Photoshopped, right?
  3. I'm in New Orleans -- I don't remember the last time there was a Cubs/Astros game on ESPN, but when WGN's not broadcasting the game, they always show it here on the Astros network, FSN. I'm certainly not a fan of the Astros, but I love it when they play the Cubs, because I'm pretty much assured of seeing those games.
  4. Seems like Theriot's been out of several games lately - anything wrong, or is Lou just trying out others at SS?
  5. Thanks for the quick replies. I searched the MLB Network site - guess I just didn't search far enough.
  6. Does anyone have any idea when this program will feature the Cubs? I can't figure out what, if any, criteria they're using for the airings. Thanks.
  7. God, how I'd love it if Opening Day rolls around and Manny Ramirez remains unsigned. What kind of donkey-butt arrogance does it take to turn down $25 million?! Unbelievable.
  8. Wow. He looks totally different in plain clothes.
  9. Who is this?
  10. If Theriot goes to San Diego, who's your starting SS? I'm not that familiar with Miles, but does he have what it takes to be your everyday shortstop?
  11. And if they get swept out again, it'll still be rather anticlimactic and ultimately, meaningless. I'd still take that over 5-10 year droughts between playoff appearances. If they can keep getting to the playoffs with a high level of frequency, sooner or later they are bound to get hot at the right time. At least that is how I look at it. Add my name to this list. When I first started watching the Cubs in 1985, we'd get excited when they came close to, or actually finished at, .500. I've never based my like or dislike of a team on how much they won - good thing, or I'd have missed out on a lot of years of Cubs fun. Heartbreaks, sure, but overall, lots of fun.
  12. I don't like the Astros, but if they could ever figure out how to play their entire year like they have the last couple of seasons in the second half, they would definiely be a force to be reckoned with.
  13. I've never been one to shy away from a dumb question, and I'm not about to start now. What's the story with "bullpen catchers"? It's obvious from their title what they do, but who are they? Are they major league players who didn't make it with any team? Are they minor league players? And how do they become "bullpen catchers"? :?: :?: :?: Thanks in advance.
  14. What's VORP? I'm guessing it's a combination of stats, but which ones? Thanks.
  15. I like the way you think. That way, when the head case has his inevitable meltdown (head or arm, take your pick), he won't be a Cub. I like. Unfortunately, I imagine he's an "untouchable" in management's eyes, wouldn't you think?
  16. Something along the lines of "You've got your hall of fame players, and then there's you." Does anyone have a link to the exact quote? Thanks.
  17. The Padres are into "sluggers"? That seems to effectively take Theriot off the list.
  18. I have no idea the source. Huh? Where'd this come from? I thought I read the Cubs weren't changing their offer (course I realize this is all speculation, but still...). And while I accept that I may very well be the only one who feels this way, but I'd hate to see Theriot go. I think this year was just the beginning for him. I mean, the Cubs have won their division both years he's been full-time.
  19. That is scary. A 16 game winner as your 5th starter. Actually my rotation would be 1. Peavy 2. Zambrano 3. Dempster 4. Lilly 5. Harden. Until Harden proves he can stay healthy and can go every turn, you should send him down to the 5th spot and rest him from time to time. The Cubs could possibly win over 100 games with that. The other teams in the Central have to be Howrying their pants if this deal goes down. The problem is, who is going to show up to hit the FREAKING ball in the post season. An as-of-now-undetermined lefty bat of consequence? Let just say if the Cubs get Peavy. :beg: Take the money they were going to spend on Dempster and sign Raul Ibanez to play right. Platoon Fukie and Reed in CF. Sign Woody back as the closer. Pick up another decent arm for the bullpen. Pick up another utility infielder. Marquis, Hill, or Veal is your 5th starter. They are set, don't ya think? Sounds good to me. I'm not familiar with Ibanez, but from what I've read about him, he sounds like a decent player. I like this one.
  20. How did Samardzija get a no trade clause? I thought that was pretty much reserved for established, upper echelon stars.
  21. I would have no problem with saying no to any type of deal that would bring Manny "Mr. Drama Queen" to the Cubs. He is a great player, as long as he's happy. But like you say, if someone looks at him funny, that's it, game over. I think one head case per team is the limit, and the Cubs already have Zambrano. They don't need another one.
  22. I don't know how much I like the sign CC idea, but I love the second part - I'd trade Zambrano for Hamilton in a heartbeat. Zambrano's still very, very good, but I can't help but feel that he's gonna blow something (his mind, his arm, something) before too much longer, and I'd prefer he not be a Cub when it happens. CC was fantastic for Milwaukee this half season, but I worry what they might have done to his arm.
  23. That's how it works. I didn't understand it. Thanks.
  24. I know players like Theriot and Fontenot aren't eligible for free agency, but how would they be handled? Their contracts are up this year - could they be traded if they're not still under contract (although I really, really hope that doesn't happen with either of them)?
