  1. I doubt it would be Restovich. They'd have to expose him to waivers again to send him back down after the interleague games are over, since he's out of options. If they make a move like that for a few games I think it would be a player currently on the 40-man roster. If he's ready to return by then, maybe they'd activate Pagan and send down a pitcher.
  2. I stupidly picked the Cubs in the mlb.com Survivor game, hoping to spur them on. More likely I'll be eliminated for the week tonight.
  3. My attitude right now is hope for the best but expect the worst. There's nothing that makes me think a turnaround is likely at this point (I considered firing Dusty during the off-day an absolute must). However, I'll still watch them because I'm still a fan, and I'll hope for a miracle. I'm just not holding my breath for it.
  4. Cubs would lose because Rusch would give up 5 HRs before the Cubs even come to bat.
  5. Penthouse to outhouse: I score over 300 points in week 5, then in week 6 I'm the only team in the league with fewer than 200 points. I've become the Cubs.
  6. No no no, you've got it all wrong. You've got to say it with some excitement. THE DON!! THE DON!!!!! How's that? :D
  7. That MUST not be true. This team has quit. Changes MUST be made, and they must be made during tomorrow's day off; the organization as it currently stands cannot remained unchanged before the next game. Firing Dusty before one more game is played is MANDATORY. If Hendry won't pull the trigger, then MacPhail must step in and do it himself.
  8. This is one time I wish I were wrong, but sadly I was right on. I saw this one coming from a mile away.
  9. He MUST be fired, and before one more game is played. This team has quit. Getting swept for the entire season by San Diego (both home and away) is inexcusable. The writing was on the wall. After yesterday's catastrophe I said in the game thread that I foresaw the Cubs losing something like 15-0 today, and I turned out to be close. The team is in a tailspin that will not end until something drastic happens. He's lost the team; he's no longer able to motivate them or get them back up after a tough loss. Tomorrow's an off-day, and it MUST be used to replace the manager and possibly make other changes. If Hendry can't see that, then MacPhail must step in and make the change himself. The organization as it currently stands has reached the end and cannot continue without changes for even one more game.
  10. The Don! (Beat Slugger to it. :D )
  11. Yes. Guzman was sent back to Iowa. He would have gone back down by Thursday anyway since Wood returns then, but by sending him down now the Cubs get an extra bullpen arm for a few games.
  12. Honestly, I just don't see anything useful coming out of this thread.
  13. Sadly, I see a total blowout against the Cubs (something like 15-0). I'm serious, although I'd love some tasty crow to eat. Today's loss is probably the most devastating, the kind that frequently sends a team into a tailspin. The Cubs were already in the tailspin, and now are relying on a struggling rookie to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, it adds up to major ugliness as I see it.
  14. Just bullpen help. Oh, and he'll be up for 4 games, not 3. My mistake. But why not Wuertz if you are going to do that? Ryu has not pitched out of the pen at all this year. That would have been the logical choice to me. He seems to have regained whatever it was he was missing to begin the season. He's been solid the last couple of weeks out of Iowa. Given how short he'll be up anyway, maybe they just wanted Ryu to get a taste of the major leagues so that he might not be so overwhelmed next time he's called up for a longer stay. I think some players are overly nervous their first time up, and maybe they just wanted him to get a chance to get the nervousness out of his system in a situation where he probably wouldn't be needed.
  15. I don't think anybody booed Latroy after ONE blown save. Come on now. Even the greatest relievers of all time blow ONE save every now and then. Get real.
  16. No, it doesn't. The option was already used when he was sent to Iowa at the start of the season. Once an option is used, the team can move the player up and down as many times as they want that year, and it still counts as one option.
  17. You CANNOT POSSIBLY be serious. Dempster has been tremendous as a closer. He has ONE bad outing, which is much less than even most of the top closer has, and he's compared to Hawkins? Unreal.
  18. Because he'd just be taking up a roster spot without pitching again before being sent down. By calling up Ryu at least they have somebody else who could pitch if needed. Guzman would be going down before his next scheduled start anyway, so it makes sense to send him down now and get somebody who could help during the next few days.
  19. You're right as far as the long-term is concerned. It would matter when Miller is activated off the 60-day DL. I meant that it didn't matter as far as the immediate move was concerned.
  20. That fits in with today's move. As pointed out in Transactions, Guzman was sent down today and Ryu called up. I expect to see Ryu sent back down on Thursday to make room for Wood, but in the meantime we have another bullpen arm rather than Guzman taking up a roster spot when he'd be sent down to make room for Wood anyway.
  21. It was. That's the incident some people point to as starting the Cubs' collapse when they were leading the Wild Card race.
  22. Yes. It wouldn't matter anyway. The 40-man roster is currently at 39 after outrighting Restovich, so one player can be added to the 40-man roster without removing somebody else.
  23. Nah, can't have an actual regular in the lineup. And Rusch is too good of a hitter to qualify. Call up Augie Ojeda and play him at short, The Riot at second, and Hairston in center. :D
  24. You really think they're that good? :D
  25. Isn't that the same guy that said, "this isn't a 6th place team" and proved it by finsihing 8th. :D Close. Actually he said they weren't an 8th place team and proved it by finishing 10th (dead last).
