  1. NL is way, way, way past due. Cubs will have home field advantage for the World Series. :D
  2. I'm guessing this offseason is going to be a disaster. I'm definitely not looking forward to it. I'll be willing to take it if they win this year. Otherwise, no; they have an obligation to their long loyal fans to somehow find a way to keep things moving, sale or no sale. They can't expect their fans to tolerate more inaction and rebuilding just because they choose to sell the team.
  3. I say no. Let Carlos have a few days rest and be all fresh for the second half of the season. Also, let him get the message that, if he wants to be an All-Star, he needs to start realizing that the season begins in April, not May or June. If he is on the team and in the game I'll root for him, but I'm not going to vote for him to make it.
  4. I'm for Z having the time to rest up for the second half and not having Lou juggle the rotation. As good as Z has been in June, I don't think he's quite an All-Star this year based on the entire season. Make him realize that he has to start the season in April, rather than June, if he wants to be an All-Star.
  5. Surprise, surprise; Bradley's back on the DL again. I love Sportsline's take on it:
  6. Just win series. If the Cubs win the majority of three game sets the rest of the way they'll be in good shape. They do have to play better at Wrigley Field, though. Hahaha. I'm guessing you forgot to go back and edit this post, right? Brewers play what? 5 more series all year against opponents over .500? The Cubs would need to go on a hellish winning streak, and the Brewers one hell of a losing streak, for us to catch them. Just winning 2/3 in a majority of series? That boat, as they say, sailed long ago. Do the Brewers look poised to start dropping 10/11 or 12/15 any time soon? Best hitting in the division, and it's not close? Pitching right up there with us in the Central -- nobody else in the same zip code? Easy schedule the rest of the way? I don't think so. Did they look poised for a long losing streak when they were 24-10? Who knows how the Brewers will play for the rest of the season? My bet would be on over .500, but it is possible that they will be mediocre or worse the rset of the way. Just playing .500 will probably be enough. They'd likely need to play under .500 for us to even sniff a chance. I gonna assume you know that's not happening. I'm going to assume he DOESN'T know that's not happening, because NOBODY, yourself included, knows what's going to happen.
  7. Keep at it. I understand there's still one person in Timbuktu that doesn't know how you feel yet.
  8. Not necessarily. As long as they continue to have off-days after every few games teams would still be able to get by with a three, or at most, four man rotation.
  9. Maybe they think they can get by with 11 until the All-Star break (after all, many of us think 11 is enough anyway). Dempster is due back right after the break; he may replace a position player rather than a pitcher. At least that would buy Hendry until after the break to try to make a deal.
  10. So much for any unlikely miracle. Lincecum pitched a gem (7 shutout innings) and Lackey pitched very well also, and it looks like I'll lose by triple digits. :(
  11. I was really, really tempted to sit Lincecum but decided against it last night (actually, went out and forgot about it when I came home this morning). You probably would have been safe sitting both pitchers. Barring a few grand slams from my hitters I'd have a hard time making up that deficit even without you adding more points to your total. Here's hoping for total stink jobs by both of your pitchers to create a miracle for me.
  12. Yep; title fixed again. This is on Saorsa since he's the one who said Jeff Goldstein.[/passing the buck] :D
  13. It may even have been arranged in advance when Cherry was called up. Perhaps the whole intent was to give Petrick a day's rest and have someone else fill that position for one day in case it was needed (which it was). It's not as though Cherry had pitched well enough in Iowa to actually earn his way back to the majors, so maybe it was a reward for being a good soldier and going along with the plan.
  14. My mission, should I decide to accept it, is to overcome a nearly 50-point deficit with no pitching starts remaining to my opponent's two. I'm not holding my breath.
  15. Jeff Weaver and Eli Marrero? My offer was EASILY better than that. Oops; different Marrero and different Weaver. :D
  16. If true, $elig can shove it where the sun don't shine. He's got no business interfering with a major league team trying to win, sale or no sale. Cub fans have been waiting patiently for 99 years for a championship and deserve one NOW, not after yet another rebuilding program, sale or no sale. The operation of the franchise and attempt to win shouldn't be put on hold; loyal fans deserve better.
  17. i'm pretty sure it's happening this year. It is (or at least has the potential to); the start of the Series is being pushed back because of low ratings during the weekend.
  18. Agreed. The Cubs can still win the series, which would be impressive on the heels of consecutive sweeps. It's a HUGE game as far as I'm concerned (not quite a must-win, but certainly very important). Go all out to win this one and let the chips fall where they may on Monday.
  19. Can we stop the pre-emptive Marquis bashing? He's failed to go 5+ innings only once this year. Yeah, he's not great, nowhere close. But he's hardly as bad as people want to make him out to be. That isn't directed at you btw, but it happens all the time on here. I'm all for criticising the guy, but he hasn't been that bad. My intent wasn't to bash Marquis, even if it came out that way. I was simply referring to the fact that the Cubs had to make a bullpen move today because of a short outing by Hill yesterday, and now they'll probably need to make another move tomorrow because of Marshall's outing today.
  20. With another long bullpen outing today and potentially one tomorrow with Marquis starting, what reliever will be punished for Marshall's suckage today by being sent down to bring up another arm in time for tomorrow's game?
  21. Negative points from Cordero when the Cubs are the beneficiaries, OK. Negative points from Marshall, not OK. Looks like my winning streak is ending at three. :(
  22. It's not Pagan. If the lineup anounced in the game thread is correct, he is starting in CF today. I hadn't seen that. I avoid the game threads like the plague.
  23. There you go with your condescending attitude again.
  24. It's adding salary in the sense that they'd be paying both him and his roster replacement. They'd be paying two players for one roster position.
