  1. So I guess this does not need to be posted in transactions? There's no transaction to report yet; just our speculation. All that we know factually is that he isn't starting for Iowa tonight as originally scheduled. The rest is us inferring the reason.
  2. The Cubs have frequently indicated that they want to carry 12 pitchers, and they currently have 11. So I don't think that calling up another pitcher (if that's what Mr. Gallagher was hinting at; I don't want to put words in his mouth :D ) necessarily means that it is to replace another pitcher. Maybe it means bye bye Jones or Izturis.
  3. You can't possibly be serious. We know nothing of the kind.
  4. How about actually posting something meaningful for a change instead of just informing us who you think sucks?
  5. Qualitatively, to me a quality start means that the pitcher goes deep enough into the game to avoid taxing the bullpen (at least 6 innings, preferably 7) and leaves with his team leading or close enough to have a reasonable chance to win. That says he's doing his job more than looking at the numbers does.
  6. A totally meaningless statistic IMO. Under the definition, pitching 6 innings and giving up 3 earned runs (4.50 ERA) is better than pitching a complete game and giving up 4 (4.00 ERA). I don't buy that.
  7. Failed Cub farmhands never go away; they just sign with the Orioles' organization. :D
  8. http://www.thirdwayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/caveman_1.jpg Keeping up with the Cubs. So easy even a caveman can do it.
  9. They frequently do shorten suspensions, even with the Cubs. Barrett last year is the only recent Cub suspension I remember that wasn't reduced.
  10. This is the current cubs.com poll; let's see how the results compare.

    Marmol

Releasing him may be my biggest regret this year. Unfortunately, at the time I had so many injured pitchers I was devoting two of my reserve spots to players on major league DLs. Marmol didn't have minor league eligibility and it sounded like he was behind Guzman in the bullpen pecking order. I need Doc Brown's time machine to go back and keep Marmol. :D
  12. I got a PM from Adam asking what I'd want for Webb. I'm not set on trading him, but I'm certainly open to seeing what I could get for him (especially if Adam and Tim are bidding against each other :D ). I'd be looking for a solid #2 or 3 starter plus either a big bat or a top closer to compensate for downgrading my starting pitching. If I trade him for a starter and a big bat I'd be willing to include the player the bat would replace in return. So taking a page from Don, if you're interested in Webb make me an offer. If I get an offer I think would help me win this year I'd probably make the trade next week during the All-Star break bye week.
  13. The extra pick is separate anyway. You're only allowed to change that once during the season, during the All-Star break.
  14. I don't think that's true. The All-Star game I think is completely separate from the regular season. But if he started the suspension immediately it would be over before the All-Star game anyway.
  15. I'm happy with the current situation; a three start advantage to erase a 26-point deficit. I just need to hope this is an on week for my pitchers.
  16. I said no, only because I think there's a reasonable chance of it being shortened by a game or two on appeal. I'd rather lose him for 3 or 4 games later rather than 5 now.
  17. Or the Pirates. :D
  18. That I don't think so. I saw the post again later; it was in the thread for his own matchup.
  19. Seriously he is locked in wow. Where the hell is all this power coming from? He must be juicing. :D
  20. Snoopy vs. Hobbes is a more apt way of looking at it. :D
  21. He better not start posting again any time soon. The Cubs are doing well without. He posted in a thread last night; I don't recall which one.
  22. I like the fact we got him for just Bynum. If he amounts to anything (even a long reliever) we will have gotten something for nothing. If he doesn't amount to anything no loss; it will basically be a wash, giving up nothing and getting nothing back in return.
  23. Definitely true. Several Wild Card teams have won the World Series in recent years.
