  1. Yeah but just think, how much would this shirt be worth in 2050 on e-bay if the Cubs did blow the lead? The shirt probably isn't actually shipped until the Cubs clinch division. If they do blow it people would just get a refund (much like the Bears' Super Bowl merchandise that was for sale before the game). Can you tell I'm not familiar with this type of success? I believe what happens is that orders placed before a team clinches are treated as pre-orders (sinilar to pre-ordering a book, CD, or DVD before it's released). If the team wins then the merchandise is produced and the orders filled; otherwise the orders are cancelled and credit cards aren't charged. They do have to produce some in advance to have in the locker room for players to wear when clinching. I read in conjunction with the Super Bowl that the shirts and caps produced in advance for the team that doesn't win get donated to some third world country, where people are just happy to get clothing and could care less that they're for something that didn't happen. I'd guess baseball does something similar.

  3. Let's settle down and get back on topic, or nobody will be asking anybody about anything in this thread.
  4. We blame everything on CT; Yankee fans blame everything on Arod. :D
  5. First place in regular season = bad. I've participated in fantasy baseball and football for several years now and have yet to be in a league where the regular season champion also won the playoffs. Unfortunately it looks like that's about to change in a league where I'm playing the regular season winner in the playoff championship round.
  6. Since neither party to the trade is still playing I see no harm in letting it go through now and avoid the unnecessary busywork of cancelling and redoing it.
  7. I'm now within 30 of the lead. Time for a final-week charge. :D
  8. Alright. O.K. hahah, very funny. It's generally standard practice that players are under one-year contracts during their early years until they are close to eligible for free agency. The extension Z recently signed is his first multi-year contract.
  9. Way to comply with board rules and avoid personal attacks. Just because someone isn't as pessimistic as you are doesn't make them an idiot.

    NL MVP?

He should get a few votes. Gold Glove for 3B will be between him and Rammy, imo Scott Rolen will somehow win again. No he won't. He's missed way too much time.
  11. Howard is on one of my fantasy teams. I've temporarily renamed the team Howard's Whiffers in honor of this momentous occasion. :D
  12. That one definitely can't happen. WGN and WCIU are sister stations. WGN and CSN aren't. CSN would never give up the broadcasting rights. I wonder if they could come up with an arrangement where WGN could simulcast the game nationwide on the superstation feed but not the local feed that would cut into CSN's territory.
  13. Hence the reason I included the last option. That should ward off any evil spirits that could jinx this. :D
  14. I voted Thursday. Originally I was thinking Friday, but the Brewers choked things so badly against Atlanta that I don't think they can hold on that long. If the Cubs win 2 of 3 in Florida the Brewers would have to win 3 of 4 from the Cardinals to avoid elimination, and right now they don't seem to me to be capable of winning 3 of 4 from anybody. I also want Thursday to be the day since that's a WGN telecast, so I'll be able to watch the Cubs' telecast along with the locker room coverage rather than watching the other team's telecast on Extra Innings. I want to hear Len and Bob call the magic moment.
  15. What I'd be more interested in is having the games later in the week shifted from CSN to WGN, to ensure that the clincher is televised on WGN. I do get Extra Innings, but those telecasts may be the home team's broadcast. And even if it is the Cubs' broadcast the postgame celebration coverage probably won't be on EI. The best that can happen on Tuesday is to clinch a tie.
  16. A division title now seems all but inevitable for the Cubs, so I think it's fun to speculate when. Wednesday is the earliest they could theoretically clinch the title outright (they could clinch a tie Tuesday).
  17. It's a pedal you press before shifting gears with a manual transmission. But that isn't important. [/Airplane reference]
  18. Cubs will win 8-0 tomorrow. It's the home finale, and Z will be up for it to make sure they win the home finale. I do think they'll lose one in Florida.
  19. Fixing the field is a must this offseason, ownership issue or no ownership issue. MLB should order them to do it.
  20. My projections: Cubs win, Brewers lose on Sunday, then Brewers beat St. Louis while the Cubs are off Monday. 3 game lead with 6 games remaining for both teams. Tuesday through Thursday, Cubs win 2 of 3 from Florida and Brewers win 2 of remaining 3 (3 of 4 total) from St. Louis. Tie clinched. Friday Cubs beat Cincinnati and break out the bubbly, then play forfeit lineups Saturday and Sunday to rest players for postseason.
  21. He's got two votes now. He and his wife must be secretly registered here. :D
  22. Enough posters are. That's the whole reason there are scheduled game thread starters in the first place.
  23. If there were, don't you think he would have said something?
  24. http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/61415XTS9KL._SS500_.jpg Miracle!
  25. Stack it. You always shorten your rotation and go with the best starters in the postseason. :D
