  1. I've seen some of the Marlins' players in AA (Carolina Mudcats), but I just can't root for them given the Cubs' recent history with the Marlins.
  2. IT'S DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL! IT AIN'T INTRAMURALS!
  3. After today I don't think there's any question you bring back Wood. He was in the biggest situation he's been in all year, bases loaded and none out, and he gets out of it without allowing a run. I think Marmol (if he doesn't go back to the rotation), Wood, and Howry could bring back memories of the Reds' Nasty Boys of the 90s.
  4. Bynum for Hart looks like a great trade. The Trachsel trade was horrible. Maybe they'll ultimately cancel out and be a wash.
  5. None really. I was for the Red Sox until they won their World Series, but now that they've done that I'm not really for or against them.
  6. For this weekend the Padres (especially since the Cubs can't take care of their own business). Normally I don't have a second team. Cubs all the way. That would change if Charlotte ever gets a team (although the Cubs would still clearly be #1 with me).
  7. So predictable too. The Cubs may as well just forfeited the game.
  8. There's this "Navin" guy again. :D
  9. Me likey. No team in league winning 90 games = Chicago team in World Series (Cubs in 1945, Sox in 1959). Yet another sign this is our year. :D
  10. So you think he's http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_276055.jpg
  11. I read that book, and it's a good one. I actually made a thread about it (in Social, I believe) when it came out. Merkle was actually quite a good player but will forever be remembered for that one boneheaded play (much like Bill Buckner and his error in the 1986 World Series). Merkle played for the Cubs later in his career.
  12. Just what we need, a player who's kookie. :D
  13. Right. They used to (they did when the Cubs had the tie-breaker against the Giants in 1998), but that has since been changed.
  14. Screw you, Lou. Soto has clearly won the starting job. You go with the hot hand down the stretch, period, end of discussion.
  15. That would make sense. I guess it does, since Girardi is the one who hired him at Florida in the first place.
  16. Why should we expect a team to go 7-0 to end the season? I'm not sure he was actually saying he expects them to. I think he was saying the Cubs just need to take care of their own business and not have to worry about what the Brewers do.
  17. I wonder of Kranitz would be interested in filling Alan Dunn's position as Cubs' minor league pitching coordinator.
  18. I find it likely the Crew goes 4-1 the rest of the way. If they go 3-2 it will be a miracle. They've an outside shot at sweeping out. We need to win games, people. I highly suggest that it start tonight. A very good suggestion. Hopefully the Cubs got the memo. :D
  19. Don't cable companies require a minimum service agreement with penalty for early termination? I know cell phone companies do, and so does DirecTV; I assume cable companies do too, but I'm not sure.
  20. For those who believe in karma, I'm currently playing for the championship in one of my Yahoo leagues and I have Marquis on that team. I benched him for today's start to protect against damage to my ERA and WHIP if he sucks. So if there is any such thing as karma that guarantees he has his best start of the year today and the Cubs win. If that doesn't happen all foolishness about what any of us saying or doing actually affecting anything can be put to bed for good.
  21. I wonder if he'll be back for the playoffs.
  22. Me neither. I thought most of us expected the Brewers to beat up on the hapless deadbirds anyway. This is anything but a surprise.
  23. No, there wasn't a designated runner in baseball. It was just one of Charles Finley's gimmicks with the A's. He always had one player on the team who almost never hit and was used strictly as a pinch runner. First it was Allan Lewis for a few years, then Washington.
  24. I've got both Fielder and Weeks on my team in another league I'm playing for the championship in. I hate to have my fate riding on Brewers, but as long as the Cubs take care of business it won't matter.
  25. I checked CubWorld and didn't see anything. Wrigleyvillesports.com, however, does have items available for pre-order. However, they're not posting images until the Cubs clinch.
