  1. If the poll was asking which PLAYER you'd rather have I'd say Soriano. However, it asked which CONTRACT you'd rather have, so I said Zito's simply because it expires sooner.
  2. I've been fo Cuban even before it was announced that the Cubs are for sale. Find a way to get it done.
  3. IT'S NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT MORE IMPORTANT TO BE NICE.
  4. And there was a similar situation about a decade earlier with Mel Rojas. Very good setup man for the Expos. Signs huge deal to become Cubs' closer. Sucks big time as closer.
  5. Somebody actually suggested that idea for all pitchers a few years ago, since recovery from TJS is fairly routine now and many pitchers are stronger after recovery. I don't think that idea got any real support, though.
  6. Not the former Cub, though. This is a different Novoa.
  7. My own stupidity has given me the lead for now. I was going to start Bannister, but forgot that he was on my reserve list, so I escaped having his -22 point outing count against me (I already had Suppan's -24 counting). I lead by 1 point at the moment but have a 4-2 disadvantage in remaining pitching starts, so I'll probably be 3-2 after this week.
  8. Wednesday will likely make or break my week. Five of my pitching starts are scheduled for that day.
  9. It is your job to watch out for these things as neither Brian nor I has time to check every matchup. He did notice it and comment earlier; I don't recall whether it was here or in the Roadkill chat.
  10. Nice rebound by Jackson today after sucking his last two starts. That should sew up another W for me, barring something like a perfect game by Weaver tomorrow. Easy week for me to make pitching decisions. I have 7 starting pitchers on my roster, and not one of them had two starts this week.
  11. Ellington also in with no agent. Hansbrough staying.
  12. He got sent back down to AAA today.
  13. Oops, and I think it was me that mentioned it both times. I meant 2000 season.
  14. Losing World Series>>>>>>>>>>Not making playoffs.
  15. Was that after his outing last night where he gave up 3 times as many ER as he got outs? No, it was about a week ago. He hadn't stunk THAT bad yet, but it certainly looked like he wasn't back in form yet. If this were a keeper league rather than year-to-year it wouldn't have seemed like such a bad trade. I still like Liriano long-term, just not this year returning from TJS. He could be like Kerry Wood in 1999 and have a good second half of the season after struggling the first half.
  16. I'm not against you here NC, just pointing out the confusion. FWIW that was the same week that I put Valverde back in the lineup after benching him for a -10 performance. There's been a lot of confusion in regards to the rules this year. Personally I think we should get all of this ironed out before we get further in the season. I definitely agree. Before this season I was always under the impression that suckiness was NOT a reason for making a mid-week switch. I thought it could only be done for players who were expected to miss games due to injury, trades, players coming off the DL, or players being benched or sent down by their major league teams. I was surprised to read that switching due to slumping was allowed this year, but given that I decided to use it. So far it's made virtually no difference; the difference between Greene's and Cedeno's performance yesterday was less than one point, and it was actually the player I benched (Greene) who had the (very slightly) higher score. I don't think anybody in the league is trying to circumvent the rules, but it's hard to follow them without knowing what they are.
  17. Actually he kept his promise; it's just that he thought when you said "DH" you meant double header. Thus, there are no longer any scheduled double headers, as used to be common. Coincidence? I think not.
  18. This is definitely a Cubs' discussion.
  19. On page 1 of the week 2 thread Juan clearly said that substituting for a player due to suckiness is permitted. What is not permitted is swapping back and forth. My interpretation of that is you can remove a player during the week for suckiness, but if you do so that player has to remain benched for the rest of the week.
  20. In one of my leagues someone offered me Francisco Liriano and Kelly Johnson for Chase Utley. Um, no thanks.
  21. Upton. I managed to pick him up in the 14th round in one of my leagues. \:D/
  22. Liriano is on one of my fantasy teams. Fortunately I've had him on the bench rather than active. In another league somebody actually had the nerve to offer him to me along with Kelly Johnson for Chase Utley.
  23. Definitely pass on Bradley. The outfield is in good shape; no need for any more help (especially a player who's a lock to spend some quality time on the DL).
