You nailed it. Tennessee wins the contest for first rain out of the day. It's literally rained here for going on 48 hours as the remnants of Fay SLOWLY make their way through East Tennessee. The Smokies are basically following Fay. North Carolina is expected to get wet from Fay over the next few days, and Carolina is where the Smokies go next for the final series of the season. -
dangit...you posted that I was typing mine apparently. I beat you by a full five minutes. Apparently Carolinians type faster than Mississippians. :P

I think the key was that he was forced out at second since he was already on first. I don't think a run counts on a forceout even if the runner touches home before the forceout at second. The situation you describe (a batter trying to stretch a double into a triple) is an entirely different situation since there's no forceout.

I've made the Fidrych comparison before. I hadn't thought of Gullett before, but he's another good comparison. Another comparison from the same era (a teammate of Gullett's, in fact) is Gary Nolan.

There's only a week remaining in the season, so there simply may not be any time to make up the games. The only way they could be made up is if there are scheduled games remaining against the same teams. -
It will probably be a moot point anyway. I'd think he'd probably be called up in September when rosters expand.

I'm surprised nobody has started this week's thread yet. The big story this week is the race between Severe Tooterstorms and me for the #5 pick in next year's draft. I currently have the pick by 1/2 game, but if I win and he loses this week he'll edge me out for that pick.

I'm almost sure that's correct. You can keep him in the minors during the season as long as he's in the minors in real baseball, but if a player has lost minor league eligibility I don't think he can stay on your minor league roster during the off-season.

Perhaps the first tie in Roadkill history. I looked at standings for previous years and there are no ties shown. However, for some reason the 2004 standings were wiped out and it shows everybody at 0-0. That was the year before I joined, so I don't know if there were any ties that year or not.

Why doesn't a Sac Fly count as an At Bat?

If a run-scoring fly counts as a sacrifice so should a run-scoring groundout. That to me is more like a bunt than a fly is, because the batter is first and foremost trying to drive in the run without really trying to get a hit. In fact, I think a grounder should be a sacrifice if it moves a runner over just like a bunt is. It shouldn't matter whether the batter chokes up or not. -

Victorino's 11th inning double and game-winning run put me up by 1/2 point. Hopefully that will hold up after any overnight deductions. If only I had the guts to have started Harang I wouldn't be sweating it out to the end.

At this rate, once they do finall get to play again they'll need to play double-headers the rest of the year to make a dent in making up the postponed games. There isn't much left in the season. -
Exactly. Hendry finally learned his lesson concerning Prior and Wood; hopefully he knows to apply the same thinking to Hill. If he comes back it's a pleasant bonus.

I think they'll celebrate both, but the division will be bigger. Celebrating a playoff spot would NOT be pathetic, since it would mean the Cubs made postseason play in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 100 years. That's worth celebrating even though it isn't the ultimate goal.

I disagree, because that was within the rules that existed back then. All he's asking for is that everybody be held to the rules, and as long as he himself complied with the rules that existed at the time there's nothing hypocritical at all.

If in fact he is a Type A then yes, the Cubs would get the compensation picks. I believe that under current rules they'd both be sandwich picks, but I'm not positive.

I'm not familiar with how the formulas work, but I'd expect him to be a Type A. He's had an excellent season as a starter this year, and he's been a pretty good closer the last few years.

I'm looking at it like the Cubs finally viewed Prior and Wood last year. I'm not counting on him, so if he rebounds it's a pleasant bonus.
