  1. that is one hell of a ballst tower, not too elegant. the rest of the stadium is very nice. reminds me abit of Chavez Ravine (Dodger Stadium)
  2. Pirates. \:D/ I'm sure he'll sign with a Major League team instead. :D moowahahahahahahaha poor jake
  3. Urbon: "And the best part, its the Cubs, so you really dont have to do much for the money."
  4. Don't knock the beaches. California beaches suck. Sorry. that depends on the activity :-"
  5. and um...with over 30 mil in S Cali, since when is San Diego a "small market" team?
  6. Our last big fire was in 1871. Oooo...too soon? omg that is funny in a really morbid kinda way but funny
  7. Which bar is that? I'm in Minneapolis. I think I may have seen a story on it sometime, but there's times when I might be able to sneak out to catch a half at a Bears place. Alary's. http://www.alarys.com There was an article in the Star Tribune last year as the founder played for the Bears in the 1940s. He passed away a few years ago and his son runs it. If you listen to KFAN they have some bits sponsored by Alary's and when LaVelle E Neal III comes on to talk Twins they often mention Alary and the Bears. It's a lot of fun. The pics are somewhat outdated, but some of the waitresses do answer the age old question of "what do strippers do on Sundays?" I'm at the reserved section of the bar counter between the two angriest fans. I'll definitely try to get the information from LaVelle, unless he's boycotted the Bears season already. I'm jealous. I'm in DT St Paul but still wont get to Alary's tonite
  8. because getting to second does not mean all that much period. If Roberts went 30 for 30 in SB...(a ridiculous 100% success rate)....he would add about five and a half runs from the steals. That is not a significant number....and that's if he went 30 for 30! interesting so how far does that drop if you use is typical sb/cs rate?
  9. is Statement 1 an arguement against the idea of "chokers"?
  10. WAIT WAIT WAIT....AND BEDARD??? ARE WE GETTING BEDARD???? I don't think he was really implying that nor do I see us getting him. It's not news that the Orioles are looking to have a fire sale, Bedard included. oic. had to ask.
  11. WAIT WAIT WAIT....AND BEDARD??? ARE WE GETTING BEDARD????
  12. well, certainly Ivy League, went to Princeton http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/L/tim-lahey.shtml
  13. I've been trying to get on their the last couple of days but you now have to be a member. Any of their insiders saying anything? Nothing really. Of course, the consensus there is that they want Hill + Pie for Roberts. If it's Gallagher, they want Gallagher + Pie + Patterson. I've learned since reading that board, that they expect a lot for their players. IC
  14. thank you for this post, abuck. it was one of the clearest, most direct replies to one of my posts I can remember. I now understand the point you are trying to make. Haltz & abuck, I wanted to re-read the James article one more time before I made a final post. I understand your points of view, and I think you make some valid points, but it is still troubling to me the singularity of your argument. I guess we could go round and round, but I don't think it would be productive anymore. And if I read James' article correctly, then he is still shifting through all the nuances of the discussion. So, at this point, I just will wait patiently to here more from him (as I respect him a great deal in matters of baseball) before I can really think it through anymore. He has the time and resources to study this in more depth then any of us, I believe, anyway.
  15. I can buy the thought that choking is much much more likely then clutch hitting because of things mentioned in this thread (such as minor leagues weeding people out), but I dont think everyone plays up to their full capacity at all times. I feel, it is possible for a player to play at less then his potential in a minority of times and it is ALSO likely that a player can play at less then his potential in the majority of times, thus reaching his potential in the minority of times, even at the major league level. They are human, and have both the mental and physical sides of their ability.
  16. your missing the point. it isnt whether or not cancer, or pressure, or a [expletive] goat is good or bad, it is the idea that it can affect someone both positively or negatively. it doesnt have to do a damn thing. but it COULD do either.
  17. give me a break. you speak that as if it's gospel. you have no proof or reasoning to back up such a statement. it's ridiculous. why the hell not? having a broken arm only takes away from a player's ability. there isn't some kind of unseen balance in the force that mandates every outside force has some kind of equal effect on the universe. what a moronic couple of statements. abuck, you insist that its on one way street, that you can only do worse in a "pressure" situation. That is a facetious arguement. my statements are not moronic. they are arguements. The "proof" is simply what I just stated. personally, I dont really want to believe in either a "clutch" hitter or "choke artist". I would like to believe haltz's explanation. But, as of yet, I see definitive prove of neither arguements. It really is abit of "mental masturbation." My whole reason for this discussion is the lack inclusion of "clutch" to the "choke" arguement. I am sorry if you were offended because I think your cancer analogy was stupid, but it was. no, it wasn't. just because something has a negative effect on some people (whether it's pressure or cancer) doesn't mean it has to have a positive effect on other people. that's stupid. but you see, cancer CAN have a positive effect on people

  19. plz be Bruce Wayne and buy whats not for sale
  20. If the Pats do go undefeated maybe the 72 Fins can suit up one more time on the NFL Network and play them for all the marbles! AWESOME.
  21. Situational hitting is mainly bat control. It's a skill that has to do with not striking out basically and it's not all that important. There's really nothing clutch about it in the sense of a new stress-induced level of performance. Any player that makes an out in a big situation has choked, just like if he got a hit it would've been clutch. The question is whether he was performing at a different talent level because of the situation and if it's repeatable. I find the that hard to believe. I agree.
