  1. Prior to 2006, DeRosa was a career role player who was given an opportunity to start in Texas and made the most out of it. That earned im a big contract, that was ill advised at the time. It payed off, and it made Hendry look good. Similarly, prior to 2008, Aaron Miles was a career role player who had a pretty good year last year after getting a lot of playoff time. Hendry thought he could try the same thing, with a smaller contract. We all know how that turned out. In seasons with at least 100 AB's DeRosa was 4-for-6 in having an .700+ OPS before singing with the Cubs. Miles, using the same criteria, was 1-for-5. Also DeRosa always drew a decent amount of walks per at-bat while Miles never did. There is a big difference between the two. Miles you knew he was below average and just hoped he could play up to being an average player. DeRosa was an average player that you hoped could play up to being good. And yet again, Miles was not signed to replace DeRosa on his own. DeRosa was signed to be a fulltime player. Miles was not. This isn't excusing the signing of Miles or justifying how bad he's been, but it's disengenuous to stack the two up as if the Cubs were expecting the two to have the same role. I know and I agree. I was using the statistics in response to the post saying the two players were similar before coming to the Cubs. They weren't.
  2. Anyone see Dr. Lou last night? If you did you saw a new low for ESPN. Holtz answered a question from Crabtree about how to deal with agents. Holtz then told him that the agent doesn't have his best interests at heart and how he is the only unsigned first round pick. One would assume because of the way it was presented that Crabtree isn't happy with his agent. However it didn't seem to make much sense to me because he would have fired his agent by now and this would have been news everywhere. I did some digging and it turns out it was a question they recorded Crabtree asking back before the draft and it was just a file footage of him asking about how to hire a good agent. I found a video posted on Youtube in April that is also from ESPN. It was filmed by what looks like interns in the a hallway in ESPN and they ask him about Texas high school football. He has on the same shirt, same earrings, same watch and has the same haircut as the one ESPN just used tonight. Ughhh ESPN is the tabloid of sports.
  3. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-18-cubs-brewers-chicago-sep18,0,6241197.story If you read the entire article he seems to insinuate that after the game Lou went to hide away and get a little tipsy before being ready to address the media. :-)) We knew the team was dysfunctional, but is this a case of the media going too far? What if it's true?

  5. Wow two celebrities of pancreatic cancer in two days. I met him and interviewed him a couple years ago when he attended the IU vs. Ball State football game. Seemed like a pretty good guy.
  6. I saw that last night and almost started a thread about it. I haven't been paying nearly as much attention to the Cubs as normal the past week or two so when I looked at the box score last night I was surprised to see his avg at .307. I then wondered if he had hit 100 RBIs yet and that's when I noticed the ridiculous OPS. If we were winning the division he could very well be an MVP candidate, albeit a distant one to Pujols. He just had a slow start like he always does. Let's remember this next season so when he is hitting .240 in mid-May we don't start saying he is done. edit: he's OPSing 1.547 in September
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4476626 Figured this deserves its own thread as it serves as another example of professional athletes being at risk. However, I also liked this quote from the story. Obviously the reporter wrote in abbreviations and the such but how does it make it into the published story.
  8. Why does that coverage map not have the games separated by time they are played? They have a map that includes Saints and 49ers on it even though they play at separate times.
  9. he's tough because his skin is made out of the same material that the nike combat gear is. It's not that difficult. Sorry couldn't think of something that dumb.
  10. ugh i hope not. he strikes me as someone who will not age well at all. i can see him ending up mediocre within the next five years. Mo Vaughn?
  11. Does anyone get this AP ad cause I don't. So his skin is like a reptiles. How does that help?
  12. Wow is Golic bad. Shut up already. I feel bad for Steve Young. He's trying to announce it like a normal game while Golic and Greeny are arguing like they are on their radio show.
  13. I like Greenburg. I don't like Golic.
  14. Carolina may have very well won a Super bowl by now if they ever woke up and realized Delhomme was an average QB at best.
  15. I think the polls should be a mixture of results and general opinion of team skill. For instance USC has a big win and thus going solely off of results they should be No. 1 but most people would agree that Florida is the best team as of now. USC did beat OSU but Barkley wasn't all that impressive and against a Florida I wouldn't be expecting much. As far as Houston/OK St goes I would still put OK State ahead of Houston. I think OK State is a lot better than they played and had an off day. Pair that with Houston having a very good game plan and you get Houston winning. Despite the result I would say OK State is still a better team with a lot more skill. People think the polls should represent different things. That goes for the people who vote as well. Some vote off of results some vote off of their opinion. This is the main reason IMO that the polls tend to be screwed up.
  16. Wow. Cutler is looking like crap.
  17. 3 out of the 4 picks or near picks have been the receivers' fault. Cutler has looked awful no matter how you cut it. With that said any fan who is already comparing him to Grossman just needs to go away.
  18. Uh he tried and Manning, a corner, is much faster.
  19. Umm no. Big market teams don't tear down and rebuild. They just build through FA. Give us a good FA or two in the offseason and we are contender. We are not Tampa Bay, Florida etc. To be honest I'm a bit flabbergasted that someone would actually think trading everyone and fielding a crappy team is a good idea for a team in Chicago.
  20. That was AWESOME! Like I said, this D is FUN to watch. Nice Sack for a 3 and out up 28 too. Gotta love it. Anyone see the Hasselbeck/Wallace QB hookup in the 2nd Q? Awesome stuff. On a side note. For anyone wanting to watch out of market games or anything else for free, go to My p2p.eu. Great site for those of us not near markets for the teams we like to watch. It was the Rams. I didn't want to tear down his delusion until next week when the 49ers beat the Seahawks.
  21. That's partly why P-Willy has led the NFL in tackles his first two seasons. It helps but so does his ridiculous speed and recognition skills. You don't have to tell me that. I watched him annihilate guys firsthand for 4 years at Ole Miss. True. Didn't think about that.
  22. Justin Smith wanting to make his first pro bowl. He did great today consistently beating his man to get after Warner. He's a great 3-4 DE.
  23. Been a while since I had a team have to defend a hail mary.
  24. OK no Denver miracle.
  25. Because the 49ers are dropping guys back to cover Boldin and Fitz so the only thing Warner has is Hightower underneath.
