  1. FYI Dew, Jame and I agreed to alternate picks this time around with me going first. So I will make the 13th pick, he will make the 17th pick and so on and so forth.
  2. Haha. You just reminded me of the best part about watching baseball with Andy. Anything and everything that is hit out of the infield in the air he thinks is a homerun and will oooo and ahhh only to have it be caught 50 feet before the warning track. Being there live for most every (home) game the last couple years has really improved my ability to judge how well balls are hit. But yeah, I'm out of practice. I thought that was gone. Somehow a post that I made while in the embedded video thread got made here.

  4. Just searched and I do indeed get the Sports south channel that shows Braves games so I get to see the game. :yahoo:
  5. I think my complaining may have actually done something. They just randomly cut to a commercial with Tiger in mid-sentence so I'm thinking they just switched me over to the feed that shows the game.
  6. I wish Congress would look into the criminal blackout rules in MLB. They should be like the NFL. If you are in the area directly around the team's base then you get blacked out if they don't sell out but people in completely different states 10-15 hours away are not blacked out.
  7. Where is your cable system based? The Reds claim Charlotte, so that could be effing you up. Just talked to them. They are based in Columbia so that is not the issue. She checked and said I should be seeing the game (although the Tiger press conference is currently on). She said she is sending a report to corporate because it shouldn't be happening and it is even blacked out for her in Columbia.
  8. Ok I think I may have found the only logical reason even though it isn't logical. My cable provider must be stationed in Charlotte (two hours north). Charlotte is blacked out of Reds games (ridiculous), however, the black out ends at the South Carolina border so I shouldn't be blacked out here.
  9. It is Braves terriortory which means I likely can't see the game. I'm close to going into a fit of rage. I can't watch any of the games. The Reds/Cards game is blacked out and I am likely to be blacked out of the Cubs game. If the Indians/Sox game is blacked out that is supposed to start in a couple minutes is blacked out as well I will likely lose it. I will not be able to see any of the games even though I am only in one teams black out area. I don't know what the hell is going on.
  10. Uh ok. This is no different than guys who realized that AVG and HR's were heavily valued and tried to get good at them. If they neglected defense they wouldn't find a place in the majors other than DH. Taking walks and hitting for power makes you a very valuable player but you still have to be able to play defense or be relegated to DH.
  11. This thread took a delightful turn.
  12. Aim. Fire. Guess I should have said shoot well.
  13. If I knew how to shoot a sniper rifle I would take out Bud Selig. Why am I blacked out of a game that neither team is within 11 hours of here?
  14. You're blacked out for some reason. Shouldn't be. I went to MLB.com and it checked blackout restrictions for the game before wanting me to sign in and it said I am fine because I am located in South Carolina (showed a point on the map).
  15. I have no idea what is going on with ESPN in my area. They have ESPN News on when the guide says it is supposed to be Reds vs. Cards. Why would they not be showing it?
  16. Yeah I am in the Braves blackout area so I may get blacked out as well with no local channel to watch it on unless the Braves are still on TBS.
  17. Unless he has gotten bored a coach who has been somewhere as long as he has and been as successful as he has isn't going to leave. Coach K has likely turned down offers many times because he is perfectly content at Duke. I would never make the job myself in his situation. He can choose when to retire and stay however long he wants at Duke. If he goes to the NBA and flames out which is pretty likely just by overall percentages he then is left going back to college to a school he never wanted to coach anyways (assuming Duke isn't open again).
  18. $1,000 fine for missing station ID= almost $20,000. I almost make $100,000,000 per year with this math. That's for missing it once. If you have inexperienced DJ's who don't know the seriousness of playing them and thus you miss it multiple times you can rack up a huge fine. The FCC will fine you for each miss if they happen to be listening and they can sit and listen for weeks counting each miss. There is no protocol to my knowledge.
  19. His bat would be great off the bench but he will go to a AL team. He can't play the field anywhere which means he must only be a pinch hitter in the NL. Go to the AL and he can pinch hit and play DH some.
  20. I've been in the Navy for 13 years. Ive been stationed in various places in the US and out. I've met and befriended literally hundreds of baseball fans. Most fans only interact with people in their local area, or on boards such as these, but I work with and hang out with fans from almost every state on a daily basis. In my experience the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry is only relevant to Cub and Cardinal fans. The San Fran-LA and Mets-Phillies rilvary is much more acknowledged by the casual fan than Cards-Cubs. At least in my circles, but they are broader than the average. As far as very recent history is concerned, I can agreee with the Mets/Phillies thing. Between the Mets back to back collapses in a heated race with Philly, and the general disdain between Philly and NY in all sports, not to mention the proximity, it's a big deal. But rivalry means a few different things, what's hot at the moment and what is always a big rivalry. Cubs/Cards is not nearly as big nationwide as many Cubs/Cards fans assume, but it's up there. That said, Mets/Phils is only relavent to Mets/Phils fans, Yanks/Red Sox is only relavent to their fans, and thee people who make money off it. Giants/Dodgers is only relavent to their fans, but that includes both east and west coast fans, since they moved and retain a fan base. OK, I shouldnt have used the word 'relevant.' What I meant was, the baseball fans I know, in very large part, arent even aware that their is a Cards-Cubs rilvalry. Everyone, including you and me agree that Yanks/RedSox is the biggest rilvary in baseball. We may not 'care' about it, but we know its there. Cards/Cubs cant be the second biggest if no fans (or very little fans) outisde of the NL Central know its there. You say its not as big nationwide as we think but its "up there." So far, my reserarch shows that its barely 'there.' You know some very very stupid baseball fans.
  21. Unless it is a Pujols.
  22. But you're 9-9 in games he's played in, and 29-29 in games he hasn't. Yeah but you have to take into account we had a decent player that we weren't using at all that was part of the trade. If we had utilized T-Mac (I understand why we didn't) and played him 20-30 minutes a night we would have likely won more games. Also Martin hasn't done anything other than score well. He isn't great on defense, hasn't gotten steals or blocks, has a horrendous assist/turnover ratio for a guard and is only getting 3 rebounds a game.
  23. Yeah other than Mariano and Joba it is pretty bad and Joba isn't even that great.
  24. One would think that slapping a $20k fine on a Podunk IN high school radio station would garner just a little bit of attention, though. They fine dozens of high schools thousands of dollars every year so it's not unique.
  25. So it's not the completely different story that Kyle linked then? Can you point me in the right direction or did this former mailroom employee of the FCC sign the same confidentiality agreement all your sources do. I'm pretty sure it was Beech Grove High School but I could care less to try and find the specific one that was talked about in my class form two years ago. Also it isn't my source. It was my professors. He got a copy of the letter either from the school or through the FCC where he used to work. According to the FCC and the various media outlets, the amount of the fine was $7,000, not $20,000. It was for filing it's license late, not forgetting a station ID. So, as usual, you're wrong. Uh yeah I said from the start I wasn't sure of the school or amount. I knew it was a high school in or around Indy and that the fine was thousands.
