  1. I feel where you are coming from as do the people making similar posts in the post game reaction thread.
  2. What example did you have in mind when you posted this? Most technology things of this type take awhile to perfect which I am sure you are well aware of. Add to that the general resistance a sport like baseball has to major revolutionary things and it will probably take longer than it should to become commonplace. 5-10 years is probably too long but a year or two I would say it pretty likely.
  3. This is where we miss Guzman. We really have no 8th inning guy (not that Guzman was proven or anything). Marshall should be moved there as he is the best we got but I'm not really convinced he would be great in that role. Our bullpen as of now has major Achilles heel with no real great solution.
  4. The natural rivalries is a big thing, I think. Outside of Arkansas, there's just no established rivalries for either team. I agree, though, this is just throwing around ideas right now. I agree the natural rivalries are a big thing but getting two teams like Texas and Oklahoma isn't something any conference would turn down. They both have strong followings, bring in lots of money, are very good in the big sports and bring one of the best rivalries with them.
  5. Ball State player Kolbrin Vitek made Baseball America's Mid-Season All-American team. I'm curious to see where he goes and for what position. He has phenomenal hitter with very good power but is also a very good pitcher with good speed.
  6. Why not? They're the kings of the Big XII as it is, plus there are no natural rivalries in the SEC for either team (save maybe Arkansas). Money would be the biggest reason they'd be interested, but I think the SEC would be more interested in a team like FSU or Miami due to the natural rivalries (Florida teams, FSU/Bama, etc.). Well in this scenario the Big XII would be weakened and the SEC would be an escape of sorts for Texas and Oklahoma but I agree FSU and Miami would be better fits. I doubt any of this happens. Most likely the Big Ten does nothing and the second most likely thing I think is adding one school.
  7. Had an interesting conversation with my dad today on this subject. If the Big Ten ends up taking a Big XII school and some others then bolt to other conferences (Colorado to Pac-10 is always rumored) Texas and Oklahoma may decide to jump ship and join the SEC. If the Big Ten goes to 14 or 16, the ACC adds a couple of the left over Big East teams to move up in numbers in order to match, the PAC-10 adds Colorado and one other, the SEC may look to match it by adding Texas and Oklahoma which would be monumental. The Big Ten may see this as a possibility and may be currently talking to both Texas AND Oklahoma. Texas talks about their state rivalries as a reason for staying but I think the Oklahoma rivalry is all they truly care about. Getting both schools to join along with three of Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Missouri would be the biggest possible move out there. Anyways just some thoughts.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=5071066 She's a knuckleballer and signed with the Chico Outlaws per ESPN. My favorite line is ... The ERA is either wrong or some of those runs weren't earned and thus weren't given up by her.
  9. Media needs to get on Lou to have some of this stuff explained. Why is Soto sitting two games in a row? Why are we starting Nady and Colvin at the same time? There are some other questions but those are two I really want answered. The second one I am hoping is Lou is going ot give all 5 guys a lot of playing time to start and will see who able to actually perform. Then in a month or so he starts settling in to a more 3 man OF.
  10. Street goes both ways. Guy was doing it as well.
  11. The Big East could always add teams as well. Memphis has been looking for a larger conference to join and its basketball program would make it enticing. ECU is another school that could be considered and most any Florida school could be a possibility as well (lower conference, that is). I don't know if it'd retain BCS status, but there are schools it could add to keep football. The shake up it would cause would be very interesting. If they take a couple Big East teams along with 1 or 2 Big XII teams and Notre Dame everything could change. The SEC would probably stay the same but every other major conference could change with the Pac-10 taking some of the Big XII schools and the rest of the Big XII and Big East combining into one conference. Basically you would see big conference add to the number of schools in the conference and the number of BCS conferences go down by one. Going down to 5 BCS conferences isn't necessarily a bad thing for the BCS people either. It would open the door to more non-BCS schools getting a big bowl game and thus quiet the call for a playoff a bit. A playoff is still inevitable in my mind but this could delay it a couple of years.
  12. They might have to steal some Big East schools in order to do that. Cinci, ND, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and .... ? The article mentions UCONN, Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers with perhaps replacing Rutgers with Missouri. Wow, they're going to cause the Big East to be a non-football conference. If it were to happen but that I think is still highly doubtful. I would venture a guess and say Rutgers is not in consideration because they just don't really bring much to the table. I would much rather bring in Missouri who is good at most of the big sports and would actually be able to have some rivals. Rutgers would be another Northwestern in my mind. Could be wrong about that but they just seem like a school where no one cares about them athletically.

  14. I believe the article says that the Big East would not have enough teams to be considered a conference in football so the decision would be made by default.
  15. football is not basketball If you are going to make a joke at least make them when they are relevant.
  16. Mwahaha totally was thinking Carlos Lee in my head instead of Cliff Lee. That certainly changes things. The trade is borderline and could go either way. On one hand you could get a safe bet at 2B who should outscore Roberts and not be near the injury risk. On the other hand you are trading one of the safest bets at SP for a guy who is currently injured and trading a great SP for an injured SP is a huge risk. Basically it comes down to whether or not you want to roll the dice on Lee. There's the chance he struggles all year and is never truly healthy. There's also the chance he comes back and is every bit as good as CC and you get an improvement at 2B.
  17. The academic problem would be in the going to 14 or 16 teams scenario. Obviously ND isn't a problem academically. I really hope ND doesn't join. I don't expect they would unless we get the 'seismic change' Swarbrick referred to, but it would be poetically cruel for ND to join the conference whose blacklisting of them led to them becoming what they became. A craptastic school who is living off of former glory? The fact that Delany a Swarbrick have both mentioned a move that would have a huge effect makes me think the Big Ten is actually looking into adding more than one school. That's not to say it is likely to happen, Just that the Big Ten is at least considering it. Prior to this article I had never thought of it.
  18. He could definitely transition into a closer if he proves unable to throw the great stuff for more than 60 or so pitches. He's already been able to throw great stuff up to 85 pitches. Consistently?
  19. Because it had no place in a game thread and made it near impossible for some people to load the thread.

  21. Just over 12 hours to get your entry in. Late submissions won't be accepted.
